The Court of Appeal ruled that Ingenious’s film tax schemes were trading to make a profit.
UK tax authority Hmrc (Hm Revenue and Customs) has lost the latest installment of its complex and long-running legal battle with film financier Ingenious Media, which will now be looking to claw back at least £30m in legal costs.

Lahore, Feb 28 (Ians) Veteran South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn lashed out at commentator Simon Doull after the latter made comments on Steyn's "mid-life crisis".
Steyn, who is playing for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (Psl), was shown sitting in the dressing room during their innings against Peshawar Zalmi on Friday. Doull, who was doing commentary with David Gower quipped "mid-life crisis with that hair" after which Gower called it "lockdown hair".
Steyn later tweeted: "Question Which commentator said I have a mid life crisis?"
He then made two tweets in which he said that he has "no time for you as a human" if commentators start talking about cricketers' personal life or appearance. "If your job is to talk about the game, then do that. But if you use that airtime to abuse anyone for their weight, sexual choices, ethnic backgrounds, lifestyle etc or even hairstyles, then...

Chennai, Feb 4 (Ians) Touring England are capable of "upsetting the balance" in their Test series against India, starting here on Friday, though Virat Kohli's home team would start favourites, said former India left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi on Thursday.
"India would start as favourites but that's only a way of phrasing it. To me, England are quite capable of upsetting the balance as well," said Doshi during a conversation with former England batsman David Gower and veteran London-based broadcaster and writer Ashis Ray.
Doshi said that the Joe Root-led England would also be brimming with confidence following their recent 2-0 Test series win in Sri Lanka.
"But for a start, any pundit will think that you have the home advantage and you've got the balanced team and you have the players in reserve who may not get into this team because the regulars are coming back. It augurs well...

The Ingenious v Hmrc tribunal kicks off today in London.
Ingenious v Hmrc, the case which begins at the Competition Tribunal in Bloomsbury Place London today, marks the culmination of almost a decade of wrangling between the blue chip British media investment company and the Revenue.
Newspapers have been intrigued by the case because of the celebrity investors involved. David Beckham, Gary Lineker, Jeremy Paxman, Wayne Rooney, David Gower and politician Andrew Mitchell are among the names linked to either Ingenious funds Inside Track or Ingenious Film Partners.
The case is expected to last well into December. It will then take months for a decision to be handed down and whichever side loses is likely to appeal. According to the “Agreed Hearing Timetable” issued in advance of the trial, those being called will include Ingenious founder and CEO Patrick McKenna [pictured] and Ingenious Director Duncan Reid as well as such “expert witnesses” as Jonathan Olsberg and Angus Finney.

The Hacked Off campaign has brought out a new authority in the actor, as he fearlessly calls Rupert Murdoch to account
Hugh Grant, in his time, has played many parts. He has been the diffident, floppy-haired charmer in Four Weddings And A Funeral; he's been the caddish lothario in the Bridget Jones movies and the troubled quasi-dad in Nick Hornby's About A Boy. Off-screen, he's been the sheepish bad boy caught in flagrante by the roadside in La, but also the brilliant investor in property and contemporary art.
But now he's found what could be his greatest role. On BBC TV's Question Time, he was the campaigner for decent values and fearless scourge of the slimy News Corporation which hacked into people's phones and sacrificed 200 jobs to protect Rebekah Brooks. It was a magnificent performance – and TV watchers all over the country remembered why they loved Hugh Grant.

Once the famous just fronted charity appeals. Now an increasing number are putting their weight behind political causes. Leo Benedictus investigates the rise of the celebrity activist
These are early days, of course, but it is possible Hugh Grant has changed the world. It was only at the last minute that his former partner, Jemima Khan, recruited him to write for The New Statesman, but now his article turning the tables on the phone hackers has created a sensation around the world, crashing the magazine's website, and being tweeted nearly 10,000 times.
What Grant did was not, in itself, extraordinary. Following a chance encounter with Paul McMullan, a former News of the World journalist and self-confessed phone-hacker, the actor arranged to visit him again in the pub he now owns. What McMullan did not realise was that Grant, himself a victim of the phone-hackers, planned to record their conversation secretly. Though mildly brave,...

Here’s a slightly indulgent post but since I’m a massive England cricket fan, I make no apologies for putting it up! On 10th May (and literally only that night), Kaleidoscope Entertainment will be putting on the Charity world Premiere of From the Ashes in association with Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. From the Ashes follows the famous 1981 Ashes series, known to many as “Botham’s Ashes”, where cricketing legend Sir Ian Botham stole the show and brought England Ashes glory against all the odds.
Following the screening, a Q&A with cricketing legends, Sir Ian Botham, Bob Willis and Dickie Bird will take place live via satellite and beamed to all 100 cinemas showing the movie across the UK simultaneously. If you’re a cricket fan, this is an event not to be missed!
From the Ashes is directed by who previously brought us One Night in Turin.

My Ayrton-Senna-as-panto-villain stance had never been properly challenged until I saw a preview of Asif Kapadia's upcoming documentary
I have only the vaguest idea where I was when Princess Diana died, and hopefully you'll have guessed from the photo that I wasn't around for JFK. But I remember exactly where I heard about Ayrton Senna's death. I was in my dad's Volvo 245 Estate on the A1081 from St Albans to Harpenden, coming home from choir rehearsal. We'd seen him crash, live on television, earlier in the afternoon. They hadn't shown a replay. Now, two hours later, a radio bulletin was explaining that his brain injuries had been too severe for him to survive.
I remember feeling surprised and even a little guilty as the tears formed in my 15-year-old eyes, and Dad drove on in respectful silence. Senna, it's fair to say, had not been a much-loved figure in our household,...
