Exclusive: Numan Acar, who appears in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far from Home, is set to play opposite Sam Worthington and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Seacole, the Charlie Stratton-directed indie based on the true-life story of Mary Seacole.
Acar was most recently seen in Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake and is currently shooting the last season of Homeland after spending four seasons on the Showtime series.
Seacole follows Mbatha-Raw as Mary Seacole, a pioneering Jamaican nurse who became known during the Crimean War for her care of wounded British soldiers. Seacole’s self-sacrifice on the front lines and fierce, adversarial relationship with Florence Nightingale during the war made her famous in her time.
Acar will play The Pasha, a high-ranking officer in the Turkish army, a lover not a fighter who helps Mary build her hotel.
Sylvia Hoeks and Sean Delaney also co-star.
Dianne Houston and Marnie Dickens co-wrote the script with Stratton.

She's won an Oscar for The Help and now Octavia Spencer is heading back in time for another story of pioneering women in tumultuous times by signing up for 19th century biopic Seacole. Despite all the usual strictures of her race at the time - an inability to vote, lack of civil rights - she made a name for herself with her pioneering approach to medicine, saving countless soldiers' lives in the process. Among them she came to be known as 'Mother Seacole', a saving angel whose reputation grew to rival even that of Florence Nightingale."Mary Seacole was a dynamic, complex and charming woman, and, knowing Octavia and her immense talent, there is no one better to embody this impressive and courageous historical figure,...

Saturday morning provided an impressive selection of panels for SXSW Film badgeholders, but one stood out above the rest -- especially for any aspiring producers and screenwriters in attendance. "Collaborations in Film: Writers & Producers" featured writer/director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter), producer Brunson Green (The Help), and producer and Austin Film Society Board of Directors member Sarah Green (Take Shelter, The Tree of Life). The panelists discussed and fielded questions about what it takes to have a successful working relationship between writers and producers.
While each panelist brought their own impressive career and experience to the panel, it was exciting to see such a great pair like Sarah Green and Jeff Nichols discuss this topic, with their collaboration on films like Take Shelter as well as the much-anticipated Mud.
Green expressed her interest in working with Nichols after being impressed with his writing right from the start, emphasizing how important it is to establish good,...

Christian Bale, Octavia Spencer Octavia Spencer, Tate Taylor, Brunson Green Photo; Spencer's Oscar 2012 Q&A Pt.2 Q. My question to you is, is that when you were walking up those stairs and by the time you got up there, a heartfelt standing ovation was given to you and you went into strictly [?] emotions. Well, get a great designer because you don't know if you're going to be on TV or not. And really and truly, I was just trying not to fall down because I had an incident where I fell at an awards show. This is one of those evenings in my life that I'll never forget. If, for some crazy reason, you weren't glued to your TV last night watching the Oscars, here's a quick rundown of what you missed: not much. As expected, The Artist ended up winning most of the major awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, although Hugo managed to snag a lot of the technical awards. In the end, they finished in a tie with 5 wins a piece. The only real surprise of the night was Meryl Streep's Best Actress win over Viola Davis for her performance in The Iron Lady. Other than that, it was somewhat a yawn-inducing show, with Billy Crystal doing a serviceable but unremarkable job as host. I think the clear highlight of the night came on the red carpet where Sacha Baron Cohen "accidentally" spilled Kim Jong-Il's ashes on Ryan Seacrest. Were you happy with this year's Academy Award winners? What did you think of the show overall?...

Crowded House said it best in the lyrics “Hey now, hey now, don’t dream its over.” Yes, the awards season officialy came to an end tonight at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Hollywood, CA. Tears, jubilation, substance and style were all memorable moments at the 84th Academy Awards hosted by Billy Crystal. With Sacha Baron Cohen’s shenanigans earlier on the red carpet and no huge upsets, Cirque du Soleil’s performance was the highlight of the evening.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards became a rightful homage to French cinema! "The Artist," distributed by The Weinstein company but the creative team is composed mostly of French folks, took home the big prize, the Best Picture award! "The Artist" won a total of 5 Oscars including Jean Dujardin for Best Actor, Michel Hazanavicius for Best Director, Best Costume Design, and Best Original Score.
But "Hugo" also won 5 Oscars, mostly technical and artistic merits, such as Best Art Direction, Cinematography, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects.
"Hugo," of course, was itself an homage to George Melies, the French illusionist who gave us the trippy "A Trip to the Moon."
Both "The Artist" and "Hugo" led the Oscar nominations with 10 and 11 nods respectively.
There was really no "oh gosh what a surprise" moment of the evening except for Meryl Streep taking home the Best Actress Oscar from the perceived surefire winner Viola Davis of "The Help.
