For any film to movie forward you need actors, and it would seem that Ruben Fleischer may have found two of them for his gangster period piece Tales from the Gangster Squad. According to a report from Deadline, actors Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling are in the negotiation phases to have starring roles in the film, with Gosling offered the role of a police officer and Penn offered the role of La crime kingpin Mickey Cohen.
While Gosling could pass off as a rookie/naïve police officer (a la Ryan Phillipe in Crash), Penn portraying La crime kingpin Mickey Cohen is a perfect fit.
