Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood will reflect on the band’s history with How To Disappear – A Portrait of Radiohead, out Oct. 15.
The announcement arrives two months after Greenwood joined Instagram, where his first few posts featured his dogs and a pencil sharpener. In the announcement of How to Disappear, Greenwood included a portrait of Thom Yorke in his “Lotus Flower” hat — which the frontman auctioned off for charity in 2020 — as well as photos of his brother and bandmate Jonny Greenwood, drummer Phil Selway, and guitarist Ed O’Brien.

Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood has announced a photo book offering a behind the scenes look at the band over the course of a 14-year period between 2003 and 2016.
How to Disappear: A Portrait of Radiohead is set for release on October 15th, 2024. Over the course of 136 pages, it documents the band’s “middle years” from 2003 through their latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, in 2016.
In addition to 97 photographs, most of which are previously unseen, the hardback book contains a 10,000-word essay written by Greenwood.
‘For years now, I’ve been taking fugitive snaps of my band, Radiohead,” Greenwood says in a statement. “I’ve tried to catch out my friends with my small black Yashica T4 Super. On stage and in the rehearsal studio, they are so lost in their own moment of performance that they don’t see me with the camera.”

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds tell a freewheeling story of a deity roaming the planet on their new single, “Wild God,” which will appear on their upcoming album, also titled Wild God, due out Aug. 30. The album will be the band’s 18th overall and first since 2019’s Ghosteen.
The group blends rock, gospel, and even a little harpsichord to create a five-minute journey. “I’m a wild god flying and wild god swimming, and I’m an old sick god dying and crying and singing,” Cave sings before...

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have announced a new album called Wild God, which will arrive on August 30th. Today, the band shared the album’s title track and lead single.
Released via Bad Seed in partnership with Play It Again Sam, Wild God will span 10 tracks, each produced by Cave and Warren Ellis. In addition to the band’s lineup — consisting of Cave, Ellis, Thomas Wydler, Martyn Casey, Jim Sclavunos, and George Vjestica — Luis Almau and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood made contributions to the album.
Speaking about Wild God in a new statement, Cave expressed a “hope [that] the album has the effect on listeners that it’s had on me.” Continuing, he explained: “It bursts out of the speaker, and I get swept up with it. It’s a complicated record, but it’s also deeply and joyously infectious. There is never a master plan when we make a record.

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has given fans an update on his next solo album in a message that also calls for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.
In an Instagram post, O’Brien thanked his “little community” of fans and explained that he had needed a break. “I’m deep into my next record, and deep in the process,” he wrote. “I will share some more soon … from music to influences to gear .. all of it… it’s been and continues to be a journey..Sending love and warmth from me and Ziggy.”
Earlier in the message, O’Brien apologized for not commenting on the heightened Gaza conflict earlier. “Like so many of you I have found the events of October 7 and what has followed too awful for words .. anything that I have tried to write feels so utterly inadequate,” he said. “Ceasefire now. Return the hostages.

At the end of “Balcony Man,” Nick Cave’s ponderous and playful song about hope, romance, and grief, he sings, “What doesn’t kill you just makes you crazier.” The words are a wry twist on Friedrich Nietzsche’s famous aphorism — but Cave says they’re also an improvement upon it.
“I don’t think Nietzsche’s quote of ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ is remotely true,” he says. “It is bad, unhelpful information that suggests we are somehow weak if we succumb to our griefs. It lacks compassion.

Nick Cave has confirmed that he is in the studio finishing a new album with the Bad Seeds.
The musician shared the news in the latest post on his website, The Red Hand Files. “I’d like to let everyone know that I am now back in the studio finishing the new Bad Seeds record,” he wrote, before explaining that he would be taking a “few weeks” off from his website-managing duties to focus on record-making. The new album will mark the first release from the Bad Seeds since 2019’s Ghosteen.
Cave first confirmed the existence of the new project in January, replying to a question about his plans for 2023 by saying: “My plan for this year is to make a new record with the Bad Seeds. This is both good news and bad news. Good news because who doesn’t want a new Bad Seeds record? Bad news because...

We’ve learned a lot about Nick Cave recently thanks to the fan-sent questions he answers in his Red Hand Files newsletter. In its latest edition, the Bad Seeds musician responded to a batch of lumped-together submissions along the lines of: “Why the fuck are you going to the King’s coronation?”

For 50 years, Pastor T.L. Barrett has delivered his sermons and gospel songs to his congregation in Chicago, but his musical impact has spread much farther. A sample of Barrett’s 1976 song “Father Stretch My Hands” laid the foundation for Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo tracks of the same name. The transcendent “Like a Ship” has featured in commercials, TV shows and the Oscar-nominated, Obamas-produced documentary Crip Camp, and most recently covered by Leon Bridges. His “Nobody Knows” has been sampled nearly 10 times in the past decade alone, including...

Ed O’Brien has been an under-appreciated but crucial part of Radiohead ever since the band formed in 1985. His contributions may not be as flashy as fellow guitarist Jonny Greenwood, but look to Thom Yorke’s immediate right at any live show and you’ll see him bashing the tambourine on “Reckoner,” echoing the haunting “rain down” refrain on “Paranoid Android,” or pounding away on a portable drum kit during “There There.”

Ed O’Brien dropped a psychedelic new track titled “Olympik,” the third single off the Radiohead guitarist’s upcoming solo debut Earth, out April 17th via Capitol Records.
The track meticulously shifts along a tight groove, courtesy of drummer Omar Hakim and Nathan East on bass. “Kaleidoscope will start to spin/Shaking up all the mess we’re in,” O’Brien sings. “Gonna shake it up, all the mess we’re in.”
“Olympik” follows the standout single “Shangri-La” and the instrumental “Brasil,” which he released with a nine-minute sci-fi film.

When Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood stepped into New York’s tiny Mercury Lounge in November 1994 to play an acoustic duo show, their band was known for a single song that they’d already grown weary of playing: “Creep.” They’d been on tour for two solid years in support of their debut LP, Pablo Honey, and by this point they had a handful of new tunes they planned to include on their next record.

Seven new musical legends joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Brooklyn on March 29: The Cure, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Roxy Music and The Zombies. That recorded 2019 ceremony is now airing on HBO tonight (April 27) and will continue to be available on the premium network’s on-demand listings for months to come.
Five of those artists performed at the event, but not Janet Jackson and Radiohead. She was reportedly upset over HBO airing “Leaving Neverland,” a hard-hitting documentary about her brother Michael Jackson, and backed out of singing that week (although she was there to accept the induction trophy). Several Radiohead members had indicated their apathy for the selection, so Ed O’Brien and Philip Selway were the only ones attending. Other recent inductees who refused to perform: Dire Straits (2018), N.W.A. (2016), Kiss (2014), Guns N’ Roses (2012), Genesis (2010), Abba (2010) and Madonna (2008).

Radiohead’s summer U.S. tour seems designed to prove a few self-evident truths. For one thing, In Rainbows remains their hands-down best album, though all votes for Kid A will be counted and “There There” is their peak song. For another thing: They’ve remembered how much fun it is to be the World’s Greatest Rock Band, to the point where their live show is a mad career-capping rush of exuberant energy. Their four-night run at New York’s Madison Square Garden last week was one for the ages.

Radiohead is probably the greatest band of the past two decades and I know music is subjective but everyone has at least one Radiohead song that they like. Radiohead’s sound is so broad and experimental yet somehow they’ve been a mainstay on the mainstream pop charts for well over a decade now. I realize it is an arduous task to rank their albums in terms of quality since each one sounds nothing like the one that came before yet still has a familiar sound. For the record I don’t believe they have a bad album in the bunch, every one is amazing in its own way. When I listen to a Radiohead record and I don’t like it I just think to myself “when will I like this record?” because I always end up loving their music no matter what era or album it was for the band.

Everything in its right place: Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood told BBC 6Music that his band will reconvene this year to record a new Radiohead album.
"We're taking some time out whilst people are doing some other stuff, doing their own things, and the plan is to get back together again [at the] end of the summer," Greenwood said whilst being extra British. This would be Radiohead's ninth album.
The "other stuff" Greenwood refers to likely includes lead singer Thom Yorke's side venture, Atoms for Peace. Yorke, producer Nigel Godrich and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea (of course) started playing together in 2009 under the moniker ??????; the band later became known as Atoms for Peace, and will release its first album on Feb. 25.
Greenwood's brother, Jonny Greenwood, has also been busy. The Radiohead guitarist is a popular composer, and he wrote the score for Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master."

-- Adele is the rare star that doesn't need multiple magazine covers, a cosmetics contract or a clothing line to sell albums. She does it all based on the strength of that sumptuous voice and those stirring songs.
That's a rarity in today's pop world, where artists are overexposed and their music often comes second to what they're promoting in tandem with it.
Adele scored an unlikely critical and commercial triumph with "21," last year's best-selling album, all based off the artistry of songs like "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You." And she'll be richly rewarded come Sunday, when the Grammys hand out their trophies at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. While Kanye West is the lead nominee with seven, Adele, who's up for six, will be the act who dominates – well, at least that's what We think.

Vimeo has announced a jury collection for the 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards that includes James Franco (of course!), Aziz Ansari, Radiohead's Colin Greenwood, Edgar Wright, designer Thierry Mugler and Uniqlo creative director Nicola Formichetti. The panel consists of three judges per category across 13 categories. More jurors are still to be named; ultimately, three jurors will oversee each section. Unlike most short film festivals, which prohibit work that has premiered online, Vimeo requires it. Filmmakers can submit any original work as long as it premiered online between July 31, 2010 and February 20, 2012, or any original work that has never premiered anywhere. The winner in each category receives $5,000; the Grand Prize winner receives $25,000. Full details here. The entry deadline is February 20. The current list of judges includes: Action Sports • Stacy Peralta ...

Despite my stash of scribble-filled notebooks, I’ve lost count of how many bands I saw in 2011 – most likely the result of running around at industry events like South by Southwest in Austin and Cmj in New York, as well as major festivals like Coachella in Indio, CA; Ultra Music in Miami; and Lollapalooza in Chicago, where you see scores of musicians in a blur over a long weekend. But a few events stand out...

Why wait till Halloween to wallow in the guts? This early autumn festival brings you fresh horror meat that's bound to be figuring later in the season. Like the promising opener Retreat, starring Thandie Newton, Cillian Murphy and Jamie Bell, or Stalker, the surprisingly nasty directorial debut of Martin Kemp. The four-day event spans the spectrum from lighthearted gore (slacker psycho comedy Some Guy Who Kills People) to really-not-funny-at-all dystopian nightmare (nuclear apocalypse horror The Divide), with special guests and horror gaming in between.
AMC Cinema, Thu to 9 Oct
Bicycle Film Festival, London
If you thought the topic of bicycles on film was rather limited, you'd be underestimating this resourceful global festival, which seems to find something new in the field of human-powered two-wheeled transportation every year. Did you know, for example, about the post-bmx street stunt scene in Accra, Ghana? If not, you need to see Bikelordz.

It’s a rare treat to witness a major rock band challenge itself on stage. Radiohead, a group that’s defined by its musical ambition, curiosity and drive, did so last night. During the course of its 20-song set in New York, the band stripped apart and rebuilt songs it released only a few months ago...

Perhaps to stir interest for next year's planned tour, Radiohead have been making the television circuit over the past few days. Saturday night saw them playing a two-song set for Saturday Night Live's season premiere, while Tuesday night saw them performing four songs on Comedy Central's faux news show The Colbert Report. But did songs from this year's album The King of Limbs make a smooth transition to television? As a Radiohead fan myself, I'm leaping at the opportunity to discuss the band's sets at length.
The answer is yes, though one performance was far superior to the other.
Saturday's appearance on SNL wasn't the groundbreaking performance I thought it would be, mostly due to awful sound mixing. Most notably, bassist Colin Greenwood could barely be heard. Other issues from the performance involved Thom Yorke's vocals, which seemed a little shaky during their first song, "Lotus Flower...

New York's seminal pre-punk icons The Velvet Underground continue to inspire contemporary musicians like few other bands in history. Last month in Paris, the V.U. love fest continued with an all-star tribute to the band held at an event called The Velvet Underground Revisited. The evening's bill included Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, Air's Nicolas Godin, sort-of-supergroup The Hot Rats (which features two members of Supergrass and longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich) and more. They mostly stuck to the early tunes, largely culled from the 1967 debut "The Velvet Underground and Nico," produced by Andy Warhol. For their take on the immortal...

“The King of Limbs,” the new Radiohead album, balances beautifully the band’s gift for melodic rock, energetic electronic rhythms and crafty musical experimentation. Quietly assertive, engaging and accessible, it’s a worthy successor to “In Rainbows,” their 2007 release. It’s a short album – eight songs; a little more than 37 minutes – but the music is richly textured and complex.

Band releases their darkly atmospheric eighth studio album Friday, a day ahead of schedule.

Radiohead's last album, 2007's In Rainbows, was a very major affair. From its pay-as-you-wish, set-the-industry-ablaze rush release to its scattershot sonics — all clicky drum tracks and doomy guitars and keening electronics — it was exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from arguably the best (and certainly the most mercurial) band on the planet. It was an event.
Their new album, The King of Limbs, which was announced Monday and then showed up unexpectedly in fans' in-boxes on Friday (February 18) morning — one day ahead of schedule — is, by comparison, a decidedly minor effort. It was not preceded by a single "Death of the Music Industry" think piece, instead, it just sort of came out early, for reasons that, at the time of this writing, have yet to really be explained.

Radiohead have expressed their support for an unofficial live multi-cam DVD release of their Haiti benefit gig, which took place in Los Angeles on January 24, 2010. Bassist Colin Greenwood wrote a message on the band's website backing the project because those who have compiled it have urged downloaders to donate further funds to help victims of last year's earthquake. Greenwood said: "It's almost a year since we played at the Fonda in Los Angeles - a brilliant night that helped raise a lot of money for the earthquake in Haiti. "Since then, Inez and other fans have compiled this DVD of live footage, you can download it here. Oxfam America have also been kind enough to set up a donation page on their site. "Many Thanks to Inez for all her work, and Kii for the excellent artwork for the DVD. Happy New Year." Writing on (more)...

Sometimes, I don’t have enough cuteness in my day. Then I watch a short film about cephalopods. Forget having six hearts between them, they also have at least fourteen tentacles.
I loved Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

In the last couple of years there have been a number of music documentaries which have breathed life into what was becoming a tired genre, unleashing new or once forgotten bands and music into the world. Last year’s Anvil!: The Story of Anvil and Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, released earlier this year, were particularly impressive, highlighting a human story full of years of struggle and ultimate joy to the soundtrack of awesome music. Continuing this trend comes Anyone Can Play Guitar, which tells the story of the 30-year history of music in Oxford, England.

Radiohead have finished another album, their first since 2007's landmark self-release, "In Rainbows." How will they release their work this time in a landscape that has changed dramatically in three years? Bassist, Colin Greenwood, wrote a compelling article that drops some hints about their new record and some insight into what the band is feeling about the state of the industry, the internet, and where it's all headed.
"With In Rainbows, we were able to be the first people to digitally release our record, directly to people's personal computers, at 7.30am GMT on 10 October 2007," he wrote in a piece for the UK's Index for Censorship. "Various online pundits and pamphleteers were pronouncing the end of the record business, or of Radiohead, or of both."
It wasn't the end of anything though, merely a new beginning. It's three years on now, they have "just finished another group of songs," and have...

Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood has said that the band have finished more songs for their eighth studio album. In an essay for Index On Censorship, Greenwood also admitted that the group are currently uncertain as to how they will release the new record upon completion. According to NME, he wrote: "We have just finished another group of songs. And have begun to wonder about how to release them in a digital landscape that has changed again. "It seems to have become harder to own music in the traditional way, on a physical object like a CD, and instead music appears the poor cousin of software, streamed or locked into a portable device like a phone or iPod." Radiohead's bassist Colin Greenwood has paid tribute to late Sparklehorse's star Mark Linkous - thanking the singer-songwriter for his "beautiful music". 47-year-old Linkous was found dead on Saturday, March 6 in an alleyway outside a friend's home in Knoxville, Tennessee, according to the New York Times.
He had reportedly shot himself in the heart. Greenwood, who befriended Linkous when he toured with Radiohead under his Sparklehorse moniker in the mid-90s, has written of his sadness at the tragedy.
In a statement on Radiohead's official website, the bass player writes, "I was very sad to hear the news that Mark Linkous has died. He and his band toured with us in Europe, at the start of Ok Computer, and they were great every night."
