The 1979 children’s fantasy classic will be getting new life as a rebooted series of films. The new franchise will be coming from Michael Ende Productions and will be based on his source material. The novel saw a live-action adaptation in 1984 with Wolfgang Petersen co-writing and directing the film. Then, in 1990, George Miller (not Furiosa‘s George Miller) would direct a sequel that starred Jonathan Brandis. And finally, a third movie starring Free Willy‘s Jason James Richter would follow in 1994.
According to Deadline, the series of films are set to be produced by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman for their production company See-Saw. Meanwhile, Roman Hocke and Ralph Gassmann will also be on board for Michael Ende Productions. Michael Ende Productions and See-Saw are set to collaborate with Lorenzo De Maio, who will serve as an executive producer on all the films. Wolf-Dieter Von Gronau, See-Saw’s Simon Gillis...

Children’s fantasy classic The Neverending Story is headed for a big screen reboot via a series of live-action features to be developed and produced by Michael Ende Productions and Oscar-winning See-Saw Films. The partners were granted the rights to Ende’s enduring novel by the author’s executor, Wolf-Dieter von Gronau.
First published in 1979, The NeverEnding Story was a huge hit in Germany, remaining on the bestseller list for years. It went on to be translated into 45 languages and has sold millions of copies worldwide. It also spawned films including the Wolfgang Peterson co-written and directed 1984 cult fantasy, as well as TV series, video games, pop songs, spinoff novels and stage plays. Deadline previously reported that streamers and studios, on both sides of the Atlantic, were chasing screen rights to revive the beloved property.
The Neverending Story begins in an old bookstore, where a young Bastian Balthasar Bux discovers the mysterious eponymous book.

This year’s Oscars were as much a celebration of books as they were cinema. Five of the 10 best picture nominees were based on books, and three of those – “Oppenheimer,” “Poor Things” and “The Zone of Interest” – took home the most statues overall. Even the winner for best animated picture, Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron,” was loosely inspired by a 1937 novel Miyazaki had read as a child.

Pinewood Studios has agreed a deal to go private after accepting an offer of £323m from asset management business Aermont Capital.
The iconic UK studios, home to the Bond and Carry On franchises, as well as a string of recent Us blockbusters, has said the sale will fuel ambitious expansion plans.
Under the deal, shareholders will receive 560p in cash per share, as well as a 3.2p dividend.
Commenting on the offer, Lord Grade of Yarmouth, chairman of Pinewood, said: “The Board believes that [the deal] can provide Pinewood with the platform required for future growth. The Pinewood Group has been transformed in recent years but has been somewhat constrained in realising its ambitions due to the lack of share liquidity.
“As a result of the Strategic Review instigated by the Board, Pinewood now has the prospect of a funding structure for the...

Shonda Rhimes’ glitzy Shondaland production company is slowly taking over ABC, and the network probably couldn’t be happier. After deciding to wedge three of its killer appointment television juggernauts into one night and slap on a hashtag, the producer has yet to allow a new series admission into its twisted theme park (besides a “special preview” for The Family, but that hardly counts). As it stands, Shondaland is currently guarded over by the mile-high drop of Scandal, a somewhat amusing, always disorienting house of mirrors in How To Get Away With Murder, and the repetitive merry-go-round everyone’s getting a little sick of, also known as Grey’s Anatomy.
Taking over for that aforementioned house of mirrors in its down-season is The Catch, a show that Rhimes herself didn’t create (which is apt, she also didn’t create Htgawm; Peter Nowalk...
