Eli makes the best of his tumultuous childhood, despite the odds: His stepdad is a drug dealer, his mom lives with addiction, his elderly babysitter just served 25 years in jail, and his brother’s a poetic clairvoyant with selective mutism. As he faces the harsh realities of life — and the looming dangers that threaten his family — Eli tries to follow his heart and understand what it means to be a good person. Directed by Bharat Nalluri (Shantaram), Jocelyn Moorhouse (The Dressmaker), and Kim Mordaunt (The Rocket), and written by John Collee (Hotel Mumbai), the coming-of-age slash crime thriller series Boy Swallows Universe stars Travis Fimmel, Phoebe Tonkin, Emmy nominee Simon Baker, and Sophie Wilde. It was executive produced by Andrew Mason and Troy Lum.

Swerve vaulted off the ropes and kicked Chuck, backing him off. Chuck created distance with a dropkick. Trent tagged in and he and Chuck hit tandem offense on Swerve. Trent backed up Fletcher with chops to the chest. Fletcher fired back with a back body drop. Trent scored with a half and half suplex. Rocky tagged in and he and Trent hit double jumping knee strikes to Fletcher. Swerve planted Yoh with a rolling flatliner. Ospreay nailed Rocky with a spinning backbreaker. Cobb grabbed a...

You’re re-hiiirrrreeeddd. On the brink of Wrestlemania 39, WWE executive chairman Vince McMahon has made a heavyweight move by updating his contract to include a number of clauses, including the exclusive rights to his own life story.
Vince McMahon has tuned up his own band by securing a lucrative deal for himself through WWE and its holdings. This update in his contract “means he will continue [to] serve a two-year term as Executive Chairman of the Board, retroactive to Jan. 9, 2023. For that, he’ll be paid a $1.2 million annual salary, with an opportunity to earn 175% in a target bonus, and an annual stock grant worth millions.” Estimates also put McMahon earning around $11 million in the event of WWE’s sale. But the most interesting component of the contract is, as per Cageside Seats, that “McMahon has also negotiated control over his life story and personal brand. Owen Hart is often regarded as one of the most talented wrestlers of all time, with the youngest member of the legendary Hart family inspiring future stars such as Chris Jericho. Sadly, Owen Hart would pass away on May 23rd, 1999, following an accidental fall during the WWE Over The Edge PPV that saw him fall 78 feet during a ring entrance stunt that would see him descend from the top of the arena while portraying the Blue Blazer character. Due to his untimely death, Owen Hart never got the opportunity to wrestle many of the future top stars in

Sydal got a near fall on Danielson after a hurracanrana. Sydal nearly decapitated Danielson with a roundhouse kick! Matt Sydal climbed to the top turnbuckle, but Bryan met him up there. Welcome to this week’s review of Aew: Dark which was, apparently, filmed at the same time as Battle of the Belts 2 (the commentary table and ring barriers had the Botb apron on it!). We’ve got a smaller 6-match card but one that features some bigger talent – which is apt given we’ve got a live paying audience and not the usual Universal crowd. Let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Red Velvet def. Dulce Tormenta
My Thoughts: Red Velvet is fully embracing her new “baddie” persona, which is probably for the best as her babyface persona was running out of steam – as heard in her Owen Hart qualifying match the other week. Here she takes a more determined, more vicious stance against Dulce Tormenta. Though Tormenta didn’t take it lying down, offering up some great offence. But like most of these “enhancement” talent matches, despite the...

Match #1: Owen Hart Men’s Qualifying Match – Adam Cole def. Tomohiro Ishii The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:
Ishii ran into Cole with a running shoulder block, and Cole went outside of the ring to collect his thoughts. Cole came back into the ring and Ishii leveled him with a chop. Cole went back outside for another breather but Ishii followed him out there, dishing out more chops. Ishii charged at Cole and Cole moved, sending Ishii’s forearm crashing into the steel ring post! Back in the ring, Cole applied a chin lock to Ishii. Cole nailed Ishii with a neck breaker. Cole clubbed Tomohiro Ishii with a forearm.

Match #1: Bryan Danielson def. Trent Barretta
My Thoughts: The saying goes “if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best” and nowhere is that more prevalent than in Aew right now. The Blackpool Combat Club have been positioned as The people to beat in the promotion and – in the short time it’s been in existence – has already elevated the roster. And that’s true of this match. Trent Beretta has not had a singles match, or Any match for that matter, as good as this in what seems like an age. He looked waaaaaay better than ever and really showed what he’s capable of.

Exclusive: Dark Side of the Ring has become Vice TV’s most-watched show, and now the youth-skewing broadcaster is expanding the franchise.
The cable network has ordered two spinoffs – Dark Side of the Football and Dark Side of the ‘90s. The two series are in production and will join a third season of Dark Side of the Ring in 2021.
This comes after Morgan Hertzan, Vice TV’s EVP & General Manager, told Deadline in April that the network was looking to explore new strands for the franchise.
Dark Side of the Football will shine a light on stories that live in the shadows of America’s favorite sport. It will explore the sometimes-flawed men behind the masks; the coaches, teams and leagues who control their fates; and the untold story behind bizarre and tragic off-the-field events — facts that often have been hidden to shield fans from discovering unsettling truths about the game they love.

Vice TV has handed wrestling docuseries Dark Side of the Ring a supersized third season.
The youth-skewing network has given its biggest original a 14 episode order for its third season – up from ten episodes on season two and six episodes for its first run.
The show, which is co-produced with Crave in Canada, will return in 2021. The order comes after Deadline revealed in April that the network was looking for more episodes after it had become a “mega-hit” for the channel, according to Morgan Hertzan, EVP & General Manager.
The second season of the series launched at the end of March with a two-part special about the story of Chris Benoit, who in 2007, killed his wife Nancy and seven year old son Daniel before hanging himself.
Other stories this season include the murder of Dino Bravo, the controversial “Brawl for All” tournament that led to career-ending injuries, the feared career of New Jack,...

Vice TV has renewed hit professional-wrestling docuseries “Dark Side of the Ring” for a 14-episode third season, which will premiere in 2021.
We do not yet know which subjects will be covered in the supersized (Season 2 had 10 episodes) Season 3.
Last season, “Dark Side of the Ring” covered the Chris Benoit murder(s)-suicide, The Road Warriors, the murder of wrestler Dino Bravo, WWF’s “Brawl for All,” the career of hardcore wrestler New Jack, David Schultz assaulting “20/20” reporter John Stossel, the death of Jimmy Snuka’s girlfriend Nancy Argentino, Owen Hart’s tragic death at a WWF pay-per-view event and Herb Adams’ attempt to build a wrestling empire.

So, the WWE Championships, the main titles in the company, are what we all look to as the height of being a star in wrestling. Whether it’s the WWF Championship, the World Championship or the Universal Title, the top of the business hold that belt, and often act as the face of WWE. So, with all the Champions we’ve seen throughout history there have been some that have achieved such legendary status that they would appear on the Mount Rushmore of the greatest Superstars in the business. We’ve also seen a whole bunch of others who have been, shall we say… not so good. Now, I’m not starting this article concept as a way to be cruel or to bury people, but rather to give two sides to the coin. Conversations about good and bad get us talking, discussing, agreeing and disagreeing, and that’s what this is all about.

WWE wrestler Paul “The Big Show” Wight’s body of work in Hollywood is growing almost as fast as his actual body did as a young man.
With all the new opportunities, including a recent run on Syfy’s “Happy!” and now his own Netflix family sitcom “The Big Show Show,” Wight’s had to accelerate the journey from crafting a pro-wrestling character to actually inhabiting roles.
He’s had some good teachers — including the indirect ones.
“As an actor, I look at someone like Peter Dinklage, which you’d think is the opposite end of the spectrum,” Wight, who referred to Dinklage as his “hero,” told TheWrap. “But no, because Peter Dinklage is such a good actor, he is able to take parts that originally weren’t written for a little person and a smaller person and he’s transcended that so that it doesn’t matter. Following my list of the Ten Best WrestleMania Matches of the 1990s, I was sent down a rabbit-hole of watching every WrestleMania again and figured it might be cool to do the same for the 80s. Now, the 80s doesn’t have as many matches to choose from like the 90s did, and the 00s and 2010s will, but there’s still five WrestleMania events to dive into, so I thought it would be cool either way. Plus… there are some damn fine matches to be found in those first five Mania events. Sure… the workrate in many areas of the WWF during that time wasn’t as great as it would become, but there’s still plenty of iconic and entertaining matches, many featuring the same group of guys. So, here it is, my top ten of the best WrestleMania Matches of the 1980s.

So during this whole awful quarantine situation I’ve found myself watching even more wrestling than before. In the midst of all that wrestling has been my revisiting of lots (and lots) of 90s WWE stuff. I started watching pro-wrestling in 1992 with WrestleMania 8 and so I have many delightful wrestling memories of the 90s, from the early cartoon-era stuff that also featured some of the best ever like Bret Hart and Randy Savage to the beloved and creatively incredible Attitude Era. I thought, then, that it would be neat to bring a list to you guys of the ten best matches of the 90s that you should revisit during lockdown. The problem with that is the sheer amount of matches I’d have to go through, so I narrowed it down to WrestleMania matches, because those alone bring a ton of great classics to pick from. I mean, this, like all these lists,...

While the United States attempts to flatten the curve on the spread of the coronavirus, once-boosted TV ratings due to self-isolation are also flattening — and in some cases, have already completely reversed course. For what we are considering the four weeks before Covid-19 began shutting down the U.S., in the key adults 18-49 demographic, the Put (Persons Using Televisions) levels for four main day parts — morning, daytime, primetime and late-night — declined between 13% and 17% from last year. Dark Side of the Ring from Vice, is a show that delves into the underbelly of professional wrestling, a look at the stories that are, for a variety of reasons, coated in controversy. The first season was great, but the second season, which finished airing just last week with it’s final episode, was even better. Directed by Jason Eisener who created the show alongside Evan Husney, it is an authentic and real peek behind a curtain that is rarely pulled back this much.

Former New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, a competitor on the upcoming Season 2 of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Titan Games,” is “fully aware” of that somewhat underground Eric Arndt high school football promo — the one before the pro wrestler went by Enzo Amore in the WWE or by nZo on the independent scene today.
In the YouTube video, which is from Arndt’s pre-nxt days, the then-aspiring professional wrestler plays a clip from his high school football days, in which the future tag team partner of Big Cass tackles Cruz with a suplex-ish maneuver. Arndt then cuts a promo on Cruz right there in front of his own gridiron highlight reel from high school.
“I am fully aware of him, yes, absolutely,” Cruz, 33, like Arndt, told TheWrap ahead of the “Titan Games” season premiere on Memorial Day Monday. “The one time I got tackled in my life had...

I grew up as a wrestling fan, having started watching at the sunrise of the 90s, in 1992, with the cartoon-era of WWF lighting up our screens with megastars like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Bret Hart and Roddy Piper. Even back then though, in the midst of the mid-card, I was intrigued by the high-flyer in the baggy blue Mc Hammer-style pants named Owen Hart. When you go and look back on early Owen Hart matches from the 80s and early 90s, you realise just how ahead of the time he was with his ring work. His high flying and acrobatic energy mixed with his nuanced technical ability made for an exciting and entertaining superstar who I was immediately a fan of. Sure, back in those days he wasn’t being given a real shot, working in nothing-matches with Skinner, but I, and many others, could see just how talented he was.

Martha Hart, the widow of late WWE Superstar Owen Hart, has “no relationship” with her brother-in-law Bret “Hitman” Hart, she told TheWrap. But it wasn’t always that way.
“Unfortunately, I have no relationship with Bret,” Martha Hart told us ahead of the premiere for Vice’s “Dark Side of the Ring” Season 2 finale, “The Final Days of Owen Hart.”
“Bret was supportive throughout the lawsuit, but there were a few things that were a problem with Bret,” she said. “First of all, when we were going through the lawsuit, he really was hoping that I would be able to help him get his wrestling footage. Because at the time, he had no relationship with WWE and he was hoping somehow — if we ever had a settlement — that we could work it in.”

Mark Calloway’s career as the Undertaker has mostly been a three-part saga. For the first third, he was more than a little limited in the ring, but had an aura, gimmick, and writing that made him the star of a sideshow act. In the second third, he was truly hitting his stride and finally caught up to his top guy status by having years of fantastic matches. Then he started slowing down and only appeared sporadically, which was fine for a few years, but then it became obvious that he was too worn down from time and his many battles in the ring.
WrestleMania 36 had Undertaker ride off with dignity as the pre-taped setup of the show allowed him to face Aj Styles in a Boneyard Match. It was less of a wrestling match and more of a lengthy fight scene you’d see in a straight-to-dvd B-movie, but...

Every year on the lead up to WrestleMania we get bursts or rumours and announcements about which wrestlers and/or personalities will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania weekend. It’s become a big part of the weekend each April, and many fans enjoy the show, seeing former superstars getting a chance to shine once more as they deliver a speech in front of their peers and adoring fans. It’s bloody lovely, quite frankly.
So, I thought, as seen as WrestleMania is a good few months off, it would be a good time to make some half-predictions, as well as talk about who I think Should be in the Hall of Fame. There are, after all, some huge names missing from that place, and it’s always fun to discuss this stuff. I will likely talk about Way too many people for one single class,...

With the WWE recently celebrating the Intercontinental Title on a WWE network special, Chris takes a look at the Ten Best WWE Intercontinental Champions Of All Time…
The Intercontinental Title in WWE has been, for most of its existence, a title that has helped take a mid-card talent and show them off in a bigger way, often transitioning them from the mid-card to the main event. It has been called “The Workhorse Title” by many, often being pointed to as the belt held and fought over by some of the more gifted technical wrestlers in the company. Growing up, it was always the Intercontinental strap that I looked forward to seeing defended on shows, whether it was “Macho Man” Randy Savage holding it, Bret “Hitman” Hart, Mr. Perfect or “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, it was usually a match that stole the show and was often held by a great worker.
As time as gone by,...

Okay, okay, okay… so I’ve already rambled on about King of the Ring in a previous “Opinionated” article, here on Nerdly, but I thought it might be fun to also talk about this too. What are the very best matches from King of the Ring? I’m talking about the King of the Ring Pay-Per View events that ran from 1993 until the final PPV in 2002.
I mentioned before how much of a fan of the King of the Ring concept I am. I think it’s a really cool way to highlight new characters and wrestlers, put a bunch of talent on a card and do something unique once a year in the same way that shows like Royal Rumble and Survivor Series do. There has been a mass of matches in the ten PPV shows that ran under the King of the Ring name. Some of them have been decent,...

Okay, so fans of current-day wrestling will know that WWE just recently announced the return of the King of the Ring tournament to television. An old concept, the King of the Ring dates all the way back to the likes of “Macho King” Randy Savage, King Haku and King Harley Race, but the first televised Pay-per View King of the Ring event didn’t happen until 1993 when Bret “Hitman” Hart became the inaugural winner by defeating Bam Bam Bigelow in the finals. It was a fun idea and it helped highlight Bret Hart a little more as the (then) WWF pushed Bret up the card as they began to develop him into the face of the company.
A year later the younger brother of Bret, Owen Hart, became King, and this is when the concept really took hold for me. Owen, a great heel, took on the moniker of “The...

WWE’s stable of performers are on the road more than 200 nights a year, told when and where to perform, and sign exclusive contracts that bar them from appearing on any other wrestling company’s programming. In spite of all that, they aren’t granted full-time-employee status by Vince McMahon’s publicly traded company — rather, they’re independent contractors who must provide their own health insurance.
That — and the overall well-being of WWE wrestlers, a startling number of whom have died early — was the subject of a deep dive on last night’s episode of “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.” Oliver pulled no punches during the 23-minute segment, beginning with this opening salvo: “While the character Vince [McMahon] is an asshole, it’s important to know that the real Vince is also an asshole,” he said, “and many fans legitimately hate him because, while the WWE has made him a billionaire,...

Welcome to this week’s Major League Wrestling review, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get right to the action.
Match #1: New Era Hart Foundation defeated Rich Swann/Ach The following is courtesy of Mlw.com:
Teddy Hart and Davey Boy Smith Jr. are looking to make waves in Mlw as the New Era Hart Foundation, along with their young friend Brian Pillman Jr. Smith and Hart made waves in Mlw’s tag team division Friday night, scoring a victory over Rich Swann and Ach. Swann and Ach will be challenging the Lucha Bros. for the World Tag Team Championship next week. But one has to wonder where the Hart Foundation stands in the pecking order after their convincing – if not controversial – victory over Swann and Ach.
The Hart Foundation was in control of the contest early. But Ach was able to lock in a sharpshooter on Teddy Hart.

Welcome to this week’s Lucha Underground review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have to talk about Kevin. Kevin’s a sicko. He killed John C. Reilly!
Match #1: Matanza Cueto beat Saltador
Matanza got another sacrifice in Saltador here. The idea is Matanza kills who-ever he beats, so Saltador is now dead. When Lucha Underground wants to bury some-body, they bury them. With that said, can you imagine Triple H having that kind of power? Owen Hart would have been taking a dirt nap long before he tragically died.
Match #2: El Dragon Azteca beat Killshot – Gift Of The Gods Match
This was a good match that had some excellent athleticism from both fighters. Azteca is lacking in the star power department (aisle 6 at Sears) but has the talent necessary to get the attention he’ll need to become a big name. Killshot is...

While Neidhart was never at the top of the WWE again after that, he remained a member of the Hart Foundation with family members Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart, and more. He ended up leaving the WWE in 1997 and finished his career […]

Davey Boy Smith Jr., a former WWE Superstar and the son of the original WWF “British Bulldog,” says his grappling skills were a lifesaver this week when he used them to keep a woman from jumping off a bridge. “I saw a girl crying and hanging off the bridge with someone trying to talk to her,” the nephew of Bret “The Hitman” Hart and Owen Hart wrote on Facebook.
