Rod Stewart has taken a swipe at fellow UK musician Ed Sheeran, dissing not only the pop star’s music, but also his hair color.
In a recent interview with The Times, Stewart was asked whether he thought timeless songs were still being made, like his own “Maggie May.” While Stewart was trying to remember the name of a “really talented” British artist, the interviewer brought up Sheeran, prompting Stewart to roast the international superstar.
“No, not Ed, I don’t know any of his songs, old ginger bollocks,” Stewart scoffed.
Considering Sheeran has landed seven straight No. 1 albums on the UK charts and released inescapable hits like “Shape of You” and “Thinking Out Loud,” we’re not quite sure how Stewart has escaped his music, but ignorance must be bliss.

The National stopped by BBC’s Later… with Jools Holland recently to perform “Space Invader” and “Deep End (Paul’s in Pieces),” two highlights from their latest album Laugh Track.
The recently-renovated Alexandra Palace Theatre made a pretty good backdrop for The National, who are just a few weeks out from their surprise-released LP. “Space Invader” — which The National released back in August — filled up the auditorium with Matt Berninger’s booming vocals and the Dessner brothers’ sweeping shredding; meanwhile, “Deep End” offered a contrasting blast of high-energy. Both sound wonderful!

Laugh Track follows The National’s April 2023 album First Two Pages of Frankenstein.

Elvis Presley was a rock n’ roll pioneer in the 1950s. Artists like Chuck Berry and Little Richard introduced the genre to many audiences, but Elvis made the genre skyrocket in popularity. He was also a pivotal figure for the youth, as his rebellious spirit infected the hearts of young listeners. Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant was young when he first heard Elvis Presley in the U.K., and he said his music was a “call to arms.”
Robert Plant said Elvis Presley’s arrival in the U.K. was an awakening for young people
While Elvis’ music seems relatively tame by today’s standards, he was considered controversial in the 1950s. Not only was rock n’ roll seen as a rebellious form of music, but Elvis also shook things up with his eccentric performing style, including suggestive hip swinging and rapid leg movement.

Last week, Rod Stewart clarified rumors regarding his retirement from music. This came after his recent comments in an interview with BBC Breakfast that he wanted “to leave the rock ‘n’ roll stuff behind, for a while.”
In an Instagram post, Stewart wrote, “I’d like to clear up any confusion that I may have caused with my dear fans and the media. I shall never retire! I was put on this Earth to be a singer and will keep doing so for as long as the good Lord lets me.”
He continued, saying that he will perform in the U.K., U.S. and South America this year and into 2024.
Stewart also told his fans that after his tour, he would explore his “newest passion” and make “big band/swing music.” In the interview with BBC, the British rock and pop singer stated that he was creating a “swing...

Rod Stewart is trading rock ‘n’ roll for swing music after completing his extensive 2023 tour, he said in a recent interview with BBC Breakfast. Watch the clip below.
“I’m not retiring,” Stewart said to BBC host Charlie Stayt. “I’ve just done a swing album with Jools Holland, which is going to come out next year, so I want to go in that direction. I just want to leave all the rock ‘n’ roll stuff behind — for a while, maybe.”
Stewart, while sitting next to upcoming tourmate Boy George, expressed excitement and anticipation for the career pivot, adding that he’s “really looking forward to doing something else” and how his forthcoming work with Jools Holland’s band “borders on rock ‘n’ roll anyway, it’s just not ‘Maggie May’ and ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?'”
It’s not the first time Stewart has mentioned a desire for genre change.

Led Zeppelin doesn’t sound like Elvis Presley influenced them, but almost every rock band has a little touch of the king. The British band had a more hardcore sound than Presley did, but the members developed a love for rock n’ roll after listening to the Memphis singer. Lead singer Robert Plant once performed a cover of an Elvis song that the king said he appreciated.

There’s only one disappointment about Rita Wilson’s new album: she doesn’t rap. In March 2020, a week after her husband Tom Hanks sent shockwaves around the world by announcing the couple had come down with Covid, Wilson posted a video of herself in quarantine flawlessly rapping Naughty by Nature’s 1992 anthem “Hip Hop Hooray”. The clip has since racked up more than two million views on Instagram, earning praise from everyone from Kim Kardashian (“The best video Ever!!!!!!”) to Barack Obama. When news of this unlikely viral hit reached Naughty By Nature, the Grammy-winning trio released a remixed version of the single featuring Wilson on the mic to raise money for the MusiCares Covid-19 Relief Fund. Surely, then, the stage was set for Wilson to offer us her takes on Tupac and Nwa? She howls with laughter. “I think that’s my next project!” she jokes. “It’s funny,...

Barbra Streisand has said that people still don’t pronounce her name correctly.
Despite global success, the singer claims that her surname is often said incorrectly, with people pronouncing it with a “z” instead of an “s”.
The correct way is to say Strei-sand, not Strei-zand.
The 80-year-old singer was speaking to The Guardian when she said that she still had to correct people.
“It’s the funniest thing to me that people still can’t seem to get my name right,” she said. “Even today, I had to correct my new assistant,” she added.
Streisand can be heard correcting David Kapralik from Columbia Records at the start of her forthcoming release, Barbara Streisand at the Bon Soir.
The album was originally planned to be Streisand’s debut album under Columbia; it was a full live recording from the Bon Soir club that the singer first performed in.

Lewis Capaldi got some words of warning about the perils of fame from Ed Sheeran when he was first starting out in his career.
Sheeran warned Capaldi that the people around him might change as a result of his mounting fame.
Speaking toThe Guardian, Capaldi recalled Sheeran saying to him: “Has your family started getting weird yet? Have there been any sort of fringe members of your family started to get weird with you?”
Capaldi replied no, to which Sheeran said “‘What about your friends?”. “No,” Capaldi answered, before Sheeran told him “That’ll happen”.
“It was like the most doomsday conversation I’ve ever had in my life. Cheers, Ed – that’s really pepped me up,” the 26-year-old said reflecting on the conversation.
“Fame doesn’t change you; it changes everyone around you,” Sheeran told him.

Bono has revealed that his cousin is also his half-brother, after his father had an affair with his mother’s sister.
The U2 frontman’s father Bob Hewson apparently told Bono, real name Paul Hewson, the news back in 2000, before dying of cancer in 2001.
Hewson and Bono’s aunt Barbara allegedly had an affair and had a son, Scott Rankin, although Bono’s late mother Iris never found out about it.
Although they grew up thinking they were cousins, Bono says that Rankin had always felt like a brother to him.
"The truth is with Scott, we felt like brothers long before we knew we were. I love Scott and his mother, Barbara,” he told the Irish Times.
“I must have known that something was up, and I must have held my father responsible for kind of making my mother unhappy in the way kids just pick up things.”

Arctic Monkeys have been given their own special episode on Later with Jools Holland.
It’s the first time the show has been devoted entirely to one band in 15 years. Past special episodes have included bands such as Oasis, Radiohead and Metallica.
The Sheffield band released their latest album The Car on Friday (21 October), which The Independent gave four stars. They have also announced a stadium tour that will take place throughout 2023.
"I enjoyed it a great deal,” frontman Alex Turner told the BBC a few days after the recording.
"I’m a big fan of that show and I have been for a long time, even before we put the band together,” he added.
In the episode, which will air on Saturday 5 November, the band reportedly took their time to make sure they got the performances just right, recording for almost two hours.
"Gotta make this one count," said Turner of the show.

In a 2021 interview, Dave Grohl reflected on the first time he met Taylor Hawkins. “We were at some radio show backstage, and he came up with a beer in his hand,” Grohl recalled. “He’s like, ‘Hey, man, what’s up? I’m Taylor, I play with Alanis Morissette. Dude, I love your record, it’s so cool!’ He was such a spaz. I was like, ‘Wow, you’re either my twin or my spirit animal, or my best friend!’ In the first 10 seconds of meeting him.” Those 10 seconds would...

Gracie Otto’s documentary Under the Volcano tells the story of a rock star paradise which became a modern Atlantis. Air Studios Montserrat, the recording studio built by The Beatles’ producer George Martin in 1979, captured the truest sounds of the biggest musical acts of the 1980s before it succumbed to the island’s natural disasters. Custom-built in the shadow of the active Soufrière Hills volcano, Air generated its own heat. Songs recorded at the studio burned up the charts, and reinvigorated burnt out artists.

In recent years, the Grammy Awards have taken advantage of having so many top artists in one place by taping a second show a day or two after the main Grammy ceremony, all-star tributes to artists like Prince, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and others. While this year was different in many ways, they did it again, but rather than honoring a single artist, the Grammys decided to embrace their recent diversity agenda — evidenced by Bmac and honor “Sounds of Change — the iconic songs that inspired social change and left an everlasting imprint on history.” While the Grammy tributes usually air a few weeks after the big show, this one is airing tonight, just three days later, from 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. Et/Pt.

What can you say about a Grammy Night that begins with Harry Styles in a feather boa and ends with Billie Eilish saying, “What’s up, Ringo?” Just this: They should always do the Grammys this way. Last night was the best Grammy show ever, by an absurd margin — nearly four hours focused on artists doing their own songs, every performance excellent. No audience, and barely any awards. No stupid comedy bits. No presenters reading scripted banter. No Zoom screens. No “let’s ride the subway with Sting” montage. Just music.

“Music’s Biggest Night,” as the Grammy Awards are known, went off without a hitch on Sunday night (March 14). Hosted by Trevor Noah, and produced by a new team led by “James Corden” executive producer Ben Winston, there was an expectation of a more innovative approach and look to an awards show, and the Grammys did not disappoint. Featuring an indoor in-the-round set-up, not unlike Jools Holland’s in the U.K., artists were able to watch each other as they performed — which, considering the lack of live music for the last year, was a rare luxury afforded to the few and mighty. In addition, elaborate pre-taped performances allowed for the spectacle one would want from a music show.

Hal Willner wasn’t known for playing music himself. But the producer, who died Monday at 64, had a unique gift for making music happen. Through his marvelously eclectic tribute albums — which featured everything from Tom Waits yowling out Snow White’s “Heigh Ho (The Dwarf’s Marching Song)” to Debbie Harry singing a wordless tune from Fellini’s La Dolce Vita and Chuck D declaiming passages from Charles Mingus’ autobiography — he turned countless sonic what-ifs into reality. As he once put it, through his curation he was “trying to to...

Hal Willner, a music producer and longtime sketch songwriter for “Saturday Night Live,” has died at the age of 64, TheWrap has confirmed.
Willner died Tuesday of an illness, according to a representative. No cause of death has been determined, though Willner’s symptoms were consistent with Covid-19.
Willner served as the sketch music producer for “SNL” for nearly two decades, first joining the NBC program in 1981. His Twitter bio poked fun at how long he’d been with the show, describing him as “so-called Music Producer & Saturday Night Live sketch music guy since Raging Bull debuted, Another One Bites the Dust a hit & Kim Kardashian was born. BBC drama “A Very English Scandal” was the big winner at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 29, scoring three trophies, including costume design, editing (fiction), and director (fiction) for Stephen Frears.
Distributed in the United States by Amazon, the three-part limited series starred Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw and was based on an actual English sex scandal from the 1970s involving a Liberal Member of Parliament named Jeremy Thorpe.
BBC America’s “Killing Eve” and the Sky Atlantic/Showtime miniseries “Patrick Melrose” each took home two awards, with the former winning for original score and sound (fiction) and the latter for production design as well as writer (drama) for David Nicholls.
The wins serve as a feather in the cap for both “Killing Eve” and “A Very English Scandal,” both of which hope to make a splash in the year’s Emmy race.

Maggie Rogers is climbing all over my questions. The 24-year-old singer-songwriter once toyed with being a journalist, and has strong opinions about how I’m conducting our interview. Famously, her track “Alaska”, which she wrote and performed for Pharrell Williams at an NYU masterclass in 2016, made him well up. But when I ask her if she is bored of talking about this, she says framing it that way is “negative” and “annoying”. “A better way to ask that,” she suggests, “is ‘how did it feel?’”
Oh, Ok, how did it feel? “First of all, the whole Pharrell and going viral thing is an essential part of my story,” she says. “It’s how most people know me. I’d be showing up in places like France and they’d be like, ‘Tell us about Pharrell’, but I realise that I haven’t really given people anything else to talk about yet.

Robyn dances into ecstasy in her new “Honey” video. The electro-pop singer joins the “diverse cast of interesting an expressive people” she recently recruited in a Twitter casting call.
