In 1988 he was instrumental in the re-opening of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.
Directed plays at the New York Poets Theatre.
Founded the Bowery Poetry Club in 2001.

Worked at the Whole Earth Bookstore in Chicago.
His first poem "Grandmothers" was published in Rolling Stone magazine in 1969.
