Ben Affleck's "Argo" continues its march as the Oscar front-runner this awards season. Yesterday, the film was the big winner at the 2013 Producers Guild Awards, and tonight, it won the big prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards taking home the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture trophy.
As predicted, Daniel Day-Lewis won the Lead Actor award for "Lincoln" while Jennifer Lawrence won the Lead Actress award for "Silver Linings Playbook."
Tommy Lee Jones won the Best Supporting Actor award for "Lincoln," and my fave, the lovely Anne Hathaway won the Best Supporting Actress award for "Les Miserables."
In the television category, "Downton Abbey" won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and "Modern Family" took home the Comedy Series award.

The main premise of "Angry Andy" was a smart, if extremely late, idea. Get rid of the Andy Bernard we have been forced to watch in this season of The Office. He has been lame and has never very funny.
Bringing back his anger management issue was a pleasant change of pace for a character that desperately needed something different. Will this be a permanent fix for the character and/or the series? Probably not, but it worked for this half hour.
Andy from the rest of this season would have taken the beating from the conference room impotence meeting, letting it roll off his back. That wouldn't have been nearly as entertaining as watching him yell and scream, throw things and finally punish the wall in the exact same spot he did back before his first stint in anger management.
I'm not saying this was comedy gold, it was...

Billboard Magazine is bleeding top talent, with publisher Lisa Ryan Howard and editor-in-chief Danyel Smith handing in their walking papers, TheWrap has learned. In addition, deputy editor Louis Hau and other high-level staffers have exited the music industry's leading trade, according to sources close to the publication. According to those individuals, Billboard is in the process of cutting costs. Raises have also been few and far between. This has produced low morale, and prompted these exits, as well as a fast rate of turnover in general. A Prometheus spokeswoman did not immediately return...

Prometheus Global Media is the beleaguered media company that owns The Hollywood Reporter and Adweek jettisoned Backstage and the Hollywood Creative Directory. I was tipped this morning that there’s a Billboard exodus underway: popular publisher Lisa Ryan Howard was pushed out and high-profile Billboard editor-in-chief Danyel Smith and Billboard deputy editor Lou Hau have resigned. More staff are expected to follow. “Morale is in the toilet because the level of dysfunction there and inside Prometheus is off the scale,” an insider tells me. ”Lisa was the bright spot in people’s day. She buffered the staff from the dsyfunction.” But now she’s gone. I also hear that Prometheus is stopping annual reviews of employees so it can eliminate 2% raises. Billboard also just cancelled its Billboard Pro project aimed at artists, I’m told. ’The investment in it was insufficient to start with,” my source says. “Prometheus keeps trying...

Sometimes, the little moments in life are what make it grand, and sometimes the little moments in an episode of The Office are also what make it come together in the end.
That was true of "Test the Store," as Jim's heartfelt act of helping Dwight out with the presentation more than made up for the fact that the cold open and first act went laugh-less.
Thankfully things started to pick up in the second act, beginning with Creed's flawless execution of Toby's Strike, Scream, Run plan. Slapping Meredith upside the head, letting out a big "yaaap" and running out of the conference room might have been the best Creed moment of the season.
We also benefited from the good Andy Bernard this week. You know the one, the guy that isn't ridiculously irritating. Yeah, we don't see him very often, but he was back, and him trying to get...

"Tallahassee" had all the pieces to come together as one of the best Office episodes of the season, but the driving force behind it - Dwight's battle to become the Special Projects Vice President while dealing with a big of appendicitis - was not funny.
They were able to play humor off of Dwight's pain - like him continuously thinking he was poisoned thanks to the return of pranking Jim or leaving a message to his infant son telling him to kill Mose in order to keep the beet farm to himself - but much of the back half of the episode was Dwight's struggle between pain and drive... and it was kind of boring.
What wasn't boring, though, was that cold open. How great were Dwight's wake-up calls? Screaming in Pam's Replacement's ear, suffocating Stanley and having Erin seduce Ryan were all great, but the best was the fact...

The Screen Actors Guild has announced their list of nominations for the best performances of 2011. I have to point out that I'm surprised Tom Hardy and Joel Edgarton weren't nominated for their roles in Warrior, because they were pretty damn awesome in that film. I think they deserved a nom more than Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm a huge fan of DiCaprio but his performance in J. Edgar wasn't his best. Brad Pitt will end up taking home the award for Moneyball though. It was great to see Bridesmaids and The Help get a nomination for best ensemble cast. It will be interesting to see who takes home the award on this list, and how many of them will make their way to the Oscars.
Who would you like to see take home the award?

Nominations for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are in, and Emma Stone is leading the way. Her summer sleeper hit, "The Help," nabbed the most movie nominations with four, followed by Oscar-fav "The Artist" with three and a handful of others with two ("Bridesmaids," "The Descendants," "Moneyball").
On the television side of things, "Modern Family" soared to the top of the pack with five nods, while "30 Rock" and "Dexter" each garnered two. HBO reeled in the most total noms with 11.

When I read that Bette Midler had to drop out of the Phil Spector biopic on HBO due to a back problem, I wondered just who, exactly, do you replace Bette Midler with? She is quite unique. Today I got my answer – Helen Mirren is the equivalent to Bette Midler according to Hollywood logic.
Well, this is awkward. I count David Badash as a friend, and my inability to get along online with Dan Savage is fairly well documented. So to find myself agreeing with Savage over David, well, it's strange. But I don't think it's fair, practical, or true to marriage itself, much less gay history, to insist that Savage drop his personal choice and professional opinion that monogamy is optional in a marriage, just because he's a figurehead. I get very uncomfortable when someone suggests we go Stepford to get ahead.

Over the seven seasons of "The Office" no character has gone through as many transitions as Ryan Howard, played by the show's co-executive producer, writer and actor B.J. Novak. Starting off as a temp who quickly became known as the Fire Guy, he improbably landed a corporate job at the head office of Dunder-Mufflin where he quickly sent a good chunk of his paycheck up his nose. After bottoming out, he re-teamed with Michael in his fledgling Michael Scott Paper Company before they both returned to their old jobs in Scranton. But Ryan once again changed into an annoying, Americana…...

GameSlam lets you bet one what's going to happen next during the ballgame you're watching. Opening day just got a lot more interesting.
It's opening day for Major League Baseball today, and that means one thing: distraction. Baseball games, you see, can be boring. And this is the year 2011, when technology officially declared that it's a human right not to be bored.
That's where GameSlam, a new online social game, comes in. GamesBeat has a story today about the Illinois-based company Game Time Live Sports Services and its new virtual game, which lets fans bet on what's going to happen during the real one.
The game works online, through Facebook or other sites--and soon on iPhone and Android. You can play against a select group of friends (for money), or with a random group of 100 others (for free). Each player starts with 10,000 points to bet during the broadcast of a game.

Drive through the Midwest and it's only a matter of time before you hit corn and soy fields that stretch as far as the eye can see. It's no surprise, really--the U.S. government lavishes the two industries with cash, spending $15.4 billion in subsidies for corn, cotton, rice, wheat, and soybeans in 2009 alone. But corn and soy aren't all bad. In addition to uses in animal feed and high-fructose corn syrup, the two crops can be used to replace oil-based plastics, toxic acrylics, and as biodiesel feedstock, among other things.

Update: Often described as one of the most prominent baseball player agents in sports, Casey Close was considered a real "get" for CAA Sports division when he arrived back in April 2006 from Img when CAA raided several agents from there to set up its new division. So his departure when his 5-year contract expires next month has to be considered a real loss as well. SportsBusiness Daily first broke the news, which I've confirmed. Close is best known as the longtime rep to Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, and just as there was financial sharing when Close left Img, so, too, will there be the same arrangement when he leaves CAA. It's not known where Close is heading. Last year, CAA Sports had quietly removed the baseball division from under Close's management. But Close still reps the two biggest baseball clients CAA has. Today the nominations for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was released. The King’s Speech and The Fighter received the most nominations, with four each. Thankfully the Guild seems to know what they are doing unlike The Golden Globes who pretty much screwed up all the nominations.
The nominees here are usually a very strong indication of how the acting award nominees will play out at the Oscars. King’s Speech has long been an Oscar favourite, but David O. Russell’s The Fighter has gained considerable steam in the past few weeks. Last year, 19 out of 20 SAG nominees went to the Oscars as well so you can be sure that The Fighter and King’s Speech will get a best picture nomination. The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on January 20th. See the complete list below.

David O. Russell's "The Fighter" and Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech" dominated the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations. The Screen Acors Guild has released their award nominations for their upcoming 17th annual award ceremony, which will take place on January 30, 2011.
There are some great nominations here. My favorite picks include Christian Bale for his role in The Fighter, Natalie Portman in her role in Black Swan, and Jesse Eisenberg for his role in The Social Network. As much as I love most of these films, I'm surprised that Inception is no where to be seen. That was one of the best films of the year and it seems to be escaping a lot of the nominations in all the award ceremonies this year.
Check out the list of Film and TV nominations below and tell us what your favorite are!

Okay, totally kidding about the Colfer Lifetime Achievement Award thing - that will be going to Ernest Borgnine. But does it seem to you that the kid who plays Kurt Hummel is getting an awful lot of awards season love? (And wouldn't McHale's Navy have been so much better with him in it?)
The latest outpouring of Colfer acclaim comes from the Screen Actors Guild who announced their 17th annual SAG nominees this morning.
The Glee cast is up for a comedy ensemble award, but Colfer was the only cast member other than Jane Lynch to be recognized individually. And given who he's up against he's almost certain to be the frontrunner!
Another bit of good news for a Glbt favorite, The Kids Are All Right, scored individual acting nods for Annete Bening, Mark Rufallo, and also a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.

The complete list of nominations for the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards follows below. The ceremony will be held on January 30th, 2011.
Nothing really to highlight here, unfortunately. SAG voters apparently didn’t care for Halle Berry’s performance as much as the Golden Globes did, because she’s not on this list. And neither is Idris Elba, who was also nominated for a Golden Globe. The cast of For Colored Girls got no love either.
The significance here is that SAG nominees and winners are voted on by members of the union – essentially, their peers.
But one thing that should be obvious by now is that the Oscar race is going to come down to 4 films and the performances in those films: The Social Network, Black Swan, The King’s Speech, and The Fighter. I still have to see the last 2.

This may not be the best season of It's Always Sunny, but it's certainly been one of the most adventurous. I can't remember a previous season where they've spent so little time at the bar, let alone took an adventure to Atlantic City where "The Gang Gets Stranded in the Woods."
Overall, this week's installment wasn't the funniest of the season, but easily one of our favorite due to a very strong A story and a fun plot line that tied the two stories perfectly together at the end.
We'll talk about the A story first. First off, Charlie and Dennis need to be partnered up more often. Dennis, who is probably the worst human being of the group (and that's saying something!) was a hilariously bad influence on the easily manipulated Charlie as he convinced him to say yes to everything.
That, of course, led to an amazing adventure...

Somewhere in Jersey? In Jersey??
I've said in the past that Sunny has taken some big, risky steps this season and they've mostly payed off. Tonight's Sunny, taking place entirely in New Jersey, was quite the big, risky step.
On their way to an animal charity event in Atlantic City, the gang crash their car while taking the scenic route. Dennis and Charlie gradually make their way into the city, encountering a scary truck driver named Byron (played by Tom Sizemore). Meanwhile, Mac, Dee and Frank wander the woods while debating whether or not they should eat various woodland creatures. Once Dennis and Charlie make it to the event, they pose as Frank and Mac and party with Philadelphia Phillies players Ryan Howard and Chase Utley.
The theme of the episode was Charlie learning to say "yes" to new adventures. He begins the episode in the trunk of Frank's care...

Over the first couple seasons of The Office, Ryan Howard was a killjoy, set on the straight and narrow, trying to honestly better himself.
He wanted to legitimately make his way up in the world of business. I didn't like that Ryan. But after he earned a top position at Dunder Mifflin corporate, and subsequently got messed up on drugs and got fired, he became one of my favorite characters on the show.
This week's "Wuphf.com" focused mainly on the eccentric Ryan that wants to make a lot of money quickly, not caring how he does it. The A Story, which featured Ryan pitching his "Wuphf" marketing plan to the office would have been enough to make this episode enjoyable.
Especially with Ryan's ability to look at the situation with realism after Oscar asked, "How long can you sustain without a cash infusion?" Ryan's response? "We have nine solid days.

Drawing from the techniques of Roman Polanski and Wes Craven, The 3Rd Floor is a terrifying tale of what happens to an everyday office when a customer comes in and puts a satanic pagan gypsy curse on it. It's filled with death, devastation...and a few laughs. More than a horror flick, The 3Rd Floor is a total horror experience via the mind of Ryan Howard - a bright young talent with a brilliantly dark imagination. It's insane!

From the mind of ex-intern Ryan Howard, it’s Scranton’s very own Paranormal Activity/Drag Me to Hell slasher horror movie, “The 3rd Floor” — and EW has it for you exclusively. When Ryan (B.J. Novak) decides his next great endeavor is a scary slasher movie, Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling), Erin (Ellie Kemper), Kevin (Brian Baumgartner), Meredith (Kate Flannery), Creed (Creed Bratton), and Gabe (Zach Woods) all pitch in. Behold, all the horror — and hilarity — in its three-part glory:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Sexy sports reporter Jenn Sterger was heavily pursued by Brett Favre and rejected his interests – but ironically, she gave HollywoodLife.com love advice for Kim Kardashian and only recommended she date professional athletes!
Oh, the irony! Jenn Sterger has been hot in the headlines as the focus of Brett Favre’s affections – the married pro quarterback allegedly left her sexy voicemails and naked text messages. However, before the sex scandal broke, the attractive reporter spoke to HollywoodLife.com exclusively about who she thought Kim Kardashian should date – and she only recommended professional athletes! Although she rejected Bretty’s attention, it sounds like sports stars are definitely her type!
Check out her picks:
Matt Leinart, 26
For those ladies that love the attention (and Jenn can’t seem to get enough of it), she keeps it simple:
“Matt is the obvious choice. He likes the spotlight, a win-win.”

During the last month, I have spoke to Amy Ryan and Andy Buckley - who play Holly Flax and David Wallace - about "The Office." My questions were all about what's going to happen once Steve Carell leaves the show at the end of the season. Unfortunately, neither has any idea. Then producer Paul Lieberstein revealed that he wants to make an offer to Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs, National Treasure) to join the cast as an old salesman who wasn't able to retire due the economy. He now has to come out of retirement and get back to work. While that may still happen, Bj Novak, who plays Ryan Howard and is a producer on the show, revealed that he wants Danny McBride (Pineapple Express) to replace Carell. He added that he's not sure whether McBride will be available due to his "Eastbound and Down" HBO series, but believes that...

In baseball terminology, the shift refers to when a left-handed power hitter who tends to pull the ball (in other words, hits the ball to right field, the shift is almost never used against right-handed batters) comes to the plate (such as Ryan Howard, David Ortiz, Adam Dunn, Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi, etc.) the infielders all move to the right. The third baseman becomes the shortstop and leaves the third base line open, the shortstop ends up on the right side of second base, the second baseman is basically playing back-up first base, and the first baseman is practically playing on the...

"The Office" won't miss the upcoming Halloween festivity. The show's official webseries will present its next episode in horror, calling it "The Third Floor". Coming "from the mind of Ryan Howard", the episode presents Kevin as a late-night guard, Erin as Frankenstein, Meredith as a Gypsy woman and, Kelly and Gabe as murder victims. It will debut on October 21.
On Tuesday, September 28 Mindy Kaling who plays Kelly made an appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to unleash the trailer. She sat down with Jay Leno not only to talk about the project but also to discuss how horror movies looked like back in the days and why the victims would stop and scream instead of run.
"The Office" webisodes dated back in 2006 when "The Accountants" debuted. But it only became more popular with the 2009 episode called "Subtle Sexuality" where Kelly and Erin channel their inner Beyonce Knowles slash Lady GaGa.

Mindy Kaling dropped by the Tonight Show Tuesday night to talk about horror movies and preview the new cluster of Office webisodes. While it’d be pretty tough to top “Subtle Sexuality” in my heart, the new, horror-filled “The Third Floor” just might do it. "Look, you got what you wanted, I'm officially out of control."
Vince's somewhat forced downward spiral finally hit rock bottom on the season finale of Entourage tonight and the reason for its painful season-long buildup finally made sense.
It's a shame it took nine episodes to deliver this week's phenomenal "Lose Yourself." After spending nine weeks watching Vince date the world's worst actress, we finally see why Sasha Grey was brought on screen.
Clearly for her butt in that cover shoot scene. Oh, or the fact she triggered Vince's bad ass fight during Eminem's party that would lead him to the hospital and possibly arrested for cocaine possession. Sasha, your horrible acting has officially been forgiving... assuming you don't appear during the final season.
Drama proved once again why he's become our favorite character, without a doubt. When we first met Johnny during season one, we couldn't stand the guy.

September 4, 2010: Recently, Kaitlin Olson and her husband Rob McElhenney announced the birth of their first child Axel Lee. In a statement released soon after the birth, Olson revealed that she had to watch Philadelphia baseball player Ryan Howard hit a home-run before going into the labor room to have her baby. The couple was out to watch a Phillies/Dodger game on Tuesday night, and that’s when the contractions started.
Olson reveals that the couple is truly excited about the new member of the family and considered themselves blessed to have such a beautiful son. At birth Axel Lee weighed 8 pounds.
