Graduated from the University of California in 1939. Studied acting with Sanford Meisner at the New York Neighbourhood Playhouse and, post-war, in England at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Broadway debut in 'Distant City' (1941), wartime service, then back on stage in 'Decision', 'Born Yesterday','Stalag 17' (as the traitor) and other plays. Noted on TV as one of three actors portraying the crime-fighting lawyer Mike Karr in 'Edge of Night' (1962-1970).
