There’s no place like CinemaCon for Universal to debut enchanting new footage for Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of Wicked! On Wednesday, the studio dropped a house on the CinemaCon crowd at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, helping Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, to tell her side of a misunderstood story.
During Universal’s CinemaCon presentation, the studio surprised the crowd by activating lanyards and roses given out before the presentation. Like magic, the objects lit up, flashing different colors as the theater filled with music. When the Great and Powerful Oz showed up, the lights interacted with his entrance. Jeff Goldblum is Oz, and he took the stage to introduce the film. “I’ll be a ringtail flying monkey if that’s not the biggest flying cranium I’ve seen in my life,” Goldblum quipped about his character.

When audiences see Wicked on the big screen, director Jon M. Chu promises to expect live vocals.
In a preview with Vanity Fair, the director shared that both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo insisted on singing live during the production. Grande stars as Glinda, opposite Erivo’s Elphaba in the film.
“These are live vocals,” Chu said. “When we were shooting it, those girls were like, ‘Fuck the pre-records. We’re going live.’ ”
Despite feeling skeptical and questioning the decision (“There’s going to be a lot of wind in your air pipes. Is that okay?” he recalled asking), Chu said the stars “didn’t miss a beat” and said, “Yeah. That’s what we do.”
While performing “Defying Gravity,” Erivo “had a harness pulling and pushing and yanking and tugging on every nook and cranny that there is,” Grande described. Meanwhile, Erivo said of Grande: “I’m literally never...

The lush British costume drama, Belgravia: The Next Chapter, from Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes has undergone a few changes since 2020. The setting is still the posh London enclave of the title, but it’s 1871 — 30 years later — and most of Season 1’s characters have died. The spotlight is now on Lord Frederick Trenchard (Benjamin Wainwright), grandson of the original Belgravia’s wealthy, social-climbing merchant James Trenchard. (Credit: Mark Mainz/Carnival Film & Television Limited/MGM+) Frederick was badly abused by his father, James’ son Oliver. The reason? Frederick’s real father is the cad John Bellasis (Adam James). Never told about his illegitimate birth, the insecure, self-loathing young lord blames his inability to love on his younger brother, James. “James was always the favorite child,” says exec producer Gareth Neame. “That completely destroyed Frederick.” Still, Frederick believes — maybe incorrectly — that ...

In Hear Me Out, Primetimer staffers and contributors espouse their pet theories, hot takes, and even the occasional galaxy-brain idea.
With its extravagant costumes and constant ruminations on love and marriage, The Buccaneers couldn't be further from a crime drama or murder mystery. The young women driving the action may be headstrong, free-spirit types, but they've been raised to bury their anger and paste a smile on their faces; no matter how much they chafe against those expectations, they're far more likely to follow that directive than they are to suddenly fly into a rage.
That said, there's one woman who not only deserves to act on decades of pent-up frustration, but should be free from any consequences: Mrs. St. George (Christina Hendricks), who's resigned herself to a life of cleaning up after her lying, cheating husband Tracy (Adam James).

Something Wicked happened in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
During Universal Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon, the studio offered up a look at its highly anticipated two-part musical Wicked from director Jon M. Chu and starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. It was received with applause from theater owners, who were treated to looks at flying monkeys and an immersive Emerald City.
“Wicked is such a proud part of our legacy,” said Universal film boss Donna Langley, who noted the musical has just become the fourth longest-running in Broadway history. “They are creating an entire world I know will dazzle your screens.”
The footage from Wicked was a rough cut as the films are still in production. It included behind-the-scenes looks at Erivo flying on a broom and some of the craftsmanship going into the project.
“I knew what this movie could be. What does it feel like to be in Oz?...

Former theatre kids around the world, take a collective breath: We officially have our first look at Ariana Granda and Cynthia Erivo in the “Wicked” movie.
Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of the “Wizard of Oz” prequel — which won three Tony Awards and went on to become one of the most lucrative Broadway musicals ever — has earned plenty of buzz for its high-profile casting announcements. But while production has quietly taken place in London, fans haven’t had a chance to see the star-studded cast in action yet.
But on Sunday morning, Jon M. Chu took to his personal Instagram account — which has become a primary source for announcements about the film, to reveal two new pictures of Erivo and Grande in costume. Erivo donned green makeup and a broom to play Elphaba (better known as the Wicked Witch of the West) and Grande wore a pink dress while...

As many a therapist’s coach has witnessed, in favour of running day to day as a cohesive unit many a family opt for the (perhaps not healthiest) strategy of pushing the simmering tensions they hold against one another to the background. But what if there was a way for you to have a much need cathartic vent, free from the worry of hurting the feelings of those you hold dearest? Filmmaker Daniel Turvil may have found a possible solution with This Much, So Far, his short film about a suburban dad who gathers a stand in cast of life-like dolls so he can deliver a torrent of unflattering home truths to his kin. It’s a film that does a great job of deploying the talents of actor Adam James, whose frenzied performance of Turvil’s high concept script is just as terrifying as it is captivating. Dn is...

Much of the upcoming Wicked movie musical is being kept under wraps, but that didn’t stop Ariana Grande from giving fans an inside, behind-the-scenes look while filming.
The Grammy-winning singer shared a collaborative post on Instagram on Sunday with Cynthia Erivo, which featured sweet moments captured on set, with the caption “up to (no) good,” followed by bubbles and a broom emoji.
Grande and the Oscar-nominated actress are set to star as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, in the Jon M. Chu-directed film that’s being made into two parts. The Instagram carousel includes several black-and-white photos of Grande wearing white gloves, a polka-dot dress and her iconic ponytail, and Erivo sporting a plaid dress, tall dark boots and hoop earrings. The last two photos showed the two’s hands on top of one another, with the last featuring Grande in an all-pink outfit, including her shoes.

Netflix has renewed You for a fifth and final season and promises fans will receive a satisfying “killer” ending to Joe Goldberg’s story. Joe Goldberg is out of his element in the official trailer for You Season 4.
Netflix unveiled the trailer on Monday morning, and the series embraces change as Joe moves to London.
Unfortunately, he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery in which it looks like he's being stalked.
We've witnessed Joe stalk his way through three seasons of the juggernaut, but now, the show is on the other foot.
"After his previous life went up in flames, Joe Goldberg has fled to Europe to escape his "messy" past, adopt a new identity, and, of course, to pursue true love," Netflix teases.
"But Joe soon finds himself in the strange new role of reluctant detective as he discovers he may not be the only killer in London."
"Now, his future depends on identifying and stopping whoever's targeting his new friend group of uber-wealthy socialites…"
It's a compelling hook and one that helps reinvigorate the series.

The official trailer for “You” Season 4 has been released by Netflix, revealing that Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is not the only murderer with their sights set on London.
Posing as a literature professor named Jonathan Moore at a London university, Joe is surprised to find he enjoys teaching, despite being surrounded by egocentric socialites. But when members of London’s wealthy elite start dropping like flies, Joe discovers there may be another murderer in his midst.
The trailer also confirms the reprisal of Tati Gabrielle as love interest Marienne Bellamy in the new season, now sporting platinum blonde hair. In the final episode of Season 3, Marienne fled the country after discovering the truth about Joe’s heinous crimes.
“Did you break my heart, Marienne?” lead actor Penn Badgley says in an ominous voice-over during the trailer, followed by a first look at Gabrielle. “Heartbreak is always a catalyst for a new path,...

Charlie Cox (of "Daredevil" fame) is suiting up for his grand return for Netflix, but sadly, there are no devil ears involved this time around. He won't be prowling the streets of Hell's Kitchen or defending New Yorkers with his background in law. But don't start moping quite yet — just because Netflix is no longer the home of his breakout role, doesn't mean they've forgotten Cox's virtues as an action star.
The actor is set to don a suit and tie as an agent for MI6 in the espionage thriller "Treason," a five-episode limited series from Matt Charman, the co-writer of "Bridge of Spies." In case you weren't sure about what to binge this holiday season, Charlie Cox has you covered. It's a good time to be named Charlie Cox. Netflix's — and now Marvel's — "Daredevil" star is set to lead the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the blind lawyer with excessive Catholic guilt in "Daredevil: Born Again." With that renewed social currency, Cox is finding a wealth of other stories to tell. Among them is Netflix's upcoming limited series, "Treason," which the United Kingdoms and Ireland branch of the streaming juggernaut's Twitter account revealed the show's release date.
The announcement came bundled with a collection of first-look images showcasing Cox and some of his fellow cast members (more on them later) all looking very serious in suits and bulletproof vests. Considering "Treason" is set to be a spy thriller piece in the same vein as "James Bond" and "The Bourne Identity," the attire seems appropriate.

Netflix's Stranger Things adopted the split-season strategy with Stranger Things Season 4, and the excitement was off the charts.
Netflix also unveiled a teaser trailer during Tudum that introduces viewers to Professor Joe.
That's right.

After the events of You Season 3, we're sure he won't be living much of a tranquil life for long.

Contains spoilers for all episodes of The Suspect
The end of episode three of ITV’s The Suspect, based on Michael Robotham’s book, found our Doctor Joe O’Loughlin (Aidan Turner) almost at rock bottom. And it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
The case against him for the murder of Catherine is looking pretty strong in the eyes of detective Devi and Ruiz based on very strange behaviour from Joe (he has fibbed A Lot) as well as circumanstial evidence all pointing in his direction. He’s either guilty, or someone really is out to get him.
Could it be his long time friend Doctor Gerald Owen (Adam James) aka Jack – who has the same initials as him? Jack heads to the police to come clean that he was the J.O. in Catherine’s journal which has now been discovered.
A few words about Jack and his inconsistent behaviour.

Doctor Joe O’Loughlin might not be a murderer, but he can certainly be a bit of a dick. In episode three of ITV’s prime time crime drama The Suspect, the psychologist accused of murder, played by Aidan Turner, launches his own further investigation into who might have killed Catherine, by trying to persuade fellow professionals to break their ethical code of conduct by revealing confidential patient information.
If you’re with the show this far you will recall that Catherine, a former patient of Joe’s who accused him of sexual assault in the past, but withdrew the complaint, was found murdered on the same day that Joe and his family were visiting the cementary where her body was dumped.
Joe proceeded to act extremely suspiciously, withholding fact after fact from detectives Ruiz (Shaun Parkes) and Devi (Anjli Mohindra), and with a lot of circumstantial evidence stacked against...

Viewers of the new ITV crime drama The Suspect believe they’ve worked out the identity of the killer just one episode in.
The series stars Aidan Turner (Poldark) as a clinical psychologist who becomes a prime suspect in the investigation surrounding the gruesome murder of a young woman.
You can read The Independent’s three-star review of the series here.
Spoilers follow for episode one of The Suspect...
While the police investigators are currently focusing their attentions on Joe O’Loughlin (Turner), the most obvious suspect for the audience is probably Bobby Moran (Bobby Schofield). Bobby is a troubled patient of Joe’s who has a strange obsession with the number 21 (the exact number of times the victim was stabbed).
However, viewers have claimed that the real killer is most likely neither Joe nor Bobby, but Joe’s psychologist friend Dr Gerald Jack Owens (Adam James).

Penn Badgley revealed on the latest episode of his “Podcrushed” podcast that he’s been given a director’s note every time he’s filmed a masturbation scene for “You” to make the scene “less creepy.” The note always leaves the actor baffled considering he stars on the series as a serial killer. “You” started its run on Lifetime before it exploded in popularity with its Season 2 debut on Netflix.

“You’ll be on board for three days, finish your paperwork, then they’ll let you off on a raft,” Dci Silva was told. Small hope of that. More like you’ll be on board for three weeks, have zero time for paperwork between the near-misses with passing tankers, nuclear reactor failures and scheming Lieutenant Commanders, and, if you come any closer to the truth, they’ll only let you off as shark chum.
“They” being the person or persons responsible for the fatal poisoning of Chief Petty Officer Craig Burke. That’s right – poison. Silva’s such a good detective that in episode two, she solved Burke’s murder twice. First, she sniffed a trail to engineers Walsh and Hadlow, whose beef with Burke led him to a confrontation with Lt Cdr Prentice (Doctor Foster’s Adam James). Prentice thumped Burke, so when the Cpo died hours later,...

Filmed in Gloucester, Massachusetts — the same location in Clooney’s 2000 film — the clip finds the country singer contemplating loves and lives lost. “Not everything is meant to last,” he says in a voiceover. “When it’s over, there’s a huge hole but there’s also a pair of wings.”
