Terror strikes in paradise as Academy Award-winning actors James Earl Jones, José Ferrer and Lila Kedrova star in this thrilling tale of sea monsters and sacrificial virgins, from the people that brought you the notoriously gruesome Island of Death!
When treasure hunter Frye (James Earl Jones) accidentally awakens an ancient sea monster that has been lying dormant on a Greek island, the inhabitants are forced to resume the practice of sacrificing virgins in order to placate the demonic creature. Arrow Video’s line of Niko Mastorakis releases continues with early 80s exploitationer Blood Tide, a film that has more behind the scenes pedigree than you’d imagine or expect!
The sheer names connected with the film – which is produced and co-written by Mastorakis, with Brian Trenchard-Smith, credited a creative consultant And Richard Jeffries (who’d later go on to direct the fantastic Scarecrows and The Vagrant) behind the camera – is remarkable. It’s a veritable who’s who of genre filmmaking in the 70s and 80s, all coming together to make a film that feels fantastically Lovercraftian.

May’s home media releases are ending on a high note, as we have a ton of great titles hitting Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD, so I hope genre fans have their wallets ready for all the killer selections coming out this week. Arrow is also keeping busy with two other titles this week – Lucky McKee’s The Woman, Blood Tide (1982) – and Blue Underground is bringing to cult classics to the world of 4K finally with their new releases of Maniac and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. And as if all of that wasn’t enough, Vinegar Syndrome is resurrecting both Dolly Dearest and Pale Blood this week,...

At the top of a definite genre shortlist is William Wesley’s 1988 title Scarecrows, a little horror flick about the eponymous objects used to frighten birds away from crops. Unfortunately, to use a cheap analogy, their use as frightful entities on film is parallel to their safeguarding of crops, effective only to the cognitive capabilities of smaller creatures. While Wesley maintains an effective command of ambience throughout this nocturnal jaunt through the vegetation, a bounty of budgetary restraints, strained performances and belabored writing seemingly brought on by a limited concept mark the film as fodder for the Mystery Science Theater 3000 experience.

Say what you want about Top Gun and Tom Cruise, blah, blah. Top Gun was like no other movie before or really since in its accurate and realistic portrayal of aerial combat. In fact one of my uncles’ Navy buddies was one of the head stunt pilots for that film and his one of the mission commanders fixing the Hubble Telescope in space.
THR has reported that Tmu Pictures is developing a Michael B. Chait directed action-adventure film called War Birds, the story of an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot who is then pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat.
What’s even cooler is that in this world of CGI reliance this movie plans to use real airplanes and aerial sequences, including authentic P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress as well as modern military helicopters and jets.

The official website has released test footage from Michael B. Chait’s first feature attempt in the form of the movie War Birds. From the footage (which I’ve embedded below) it looks like we can expect to see a Top Gun style movie based in an around the Us Airforce in the Second World War with Michael Bay style explosions recently seen on the Victoria Secrets ad!
The website gives us literally no other information on the movie but fortunately, or friend Alex over at FirstShowing.net knows a lot more than we do about the movie:

On Monday we told you about a new action-adventure film entitled War Birds, from first time director Michael Chait. J. Todd Harris, who served as a producer on Bottle Shock, along with Tron Legacy screenwriter Richard Jefferies, are reportedly polishing the script, and, along with Chait, will also produce the film for Michigan-based Tmu Pictures.
Since then, three minutes of test footage for the film have been released on the official site. It's pretty rough footage, without any sort of story, but it's also real airplanes sans CG (so far). Even Michael Bay ought to be impressed with that. To check out the footage, click on the Video tab above.

I love reading a plot description for an upcoming project that just stops me dead in my tracks. Here I am scanning casually through my RSS feeds when I come across this bombshell of a plot for War Birds at The Hollywood Reporter:

Never since Top Gun has a film captured the pure adrenaline rush and intensity of fighter jet air combat. Sure sequences in films like Pearl Harbor and Independence Day have been fantastic in themselves, but an entire film has never come close to director Tony Scott's energy rush in the sky. Can I make a confession? I'm not 100% gung-ho about Tron Legacy, as I know other writers and Comic-Con attendees have been. Maybe it's because Tron wasn't a huge part of my childhood, or maybe it's because I was underwhelmed by the footage (or lack thereof) at Comic-Con this year. Either way, what we've seen so far hasn't really tickled my fancy yet, although obviously if the movie (or even the trailer) ends up being completely badass, I'm happy to revise my thoughts. Nonetheless, Disney is certainly positioning the film as a big earner, and it looks like Platinum Dunes sees something in the writing pair of Adam Horowitz and Richard Jefferies, who wrote Tron Legacy's screenplay. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, the two have been tapped by Universal to write Ouija, their forthcoming adaptation of the Ouija board "game." Yes, this thing is actually happening. We...

Having been teasing on what to expect from "Tron Legacy" at 2009 San Diego Comic Con this summer, Walt Disney Pictures announced a time slot for the much awaited movie. The mouse house has set this sequel to the 1982's film "Tron" to be among the December 2010 releases, giving it a competitive date on the December 17, 2010 schedule.
This move by Disney puts "Legacy" up against Sony Pictures' two upcoming movies, the action adventure "The Green Hornet" and the CG-animated "The Smurfs", and Warner Bros. Pictures' animation "Yogi Bear". Since Sony has two feature films coming out on the same day, the studio is likely to move "Smurfs" to another date.
"Tron Legacy" follows Sam Flynn as he investigates the disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn. Pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years, he manages to find Kevin. But,...

Words on the street that "Frost/Nixon" star Michael Sheen is joining "Tron Legacy" have been proven to be a true one. Walt Disney Pictures has confirmed that the 40-year-old BAFTA-nominated actor has officially become a part of the "Tron" sequel's cast ensemble via Twitter on Wednesday, July 29.
In a response to a confirmation plea made by fansite Michael Sheen Online, the studio tweeted, "Yes, Michael Sheen will have a role in Tron Legacy!" Although coming out with such answer, the mouse house didn't go on further on detailing what character the actor will tackle in the movie. Hence, it is still unclear whether Sheen will be the villain as what has been suggested earlier.

Hours after holding a panel for "Tron Legacy" at San Diego Comic Con 2009, Walt Disney Pictures has finally put out the video of grid VFX concept test for the sequel to the 1982's film "Tron". This teaser footage, which was shown at the annual convention Thursday, July 23, is basically the same with the one presented as a test footage at Comic Con 2008.
Outed in a high definition quality this time, the video gives out upgraded lightcycles as well as a look at Jeff Bridges' character Kevin Flynn. The nearly three minutes footage, which is said featuring a virtual-world worker seeking to take down the Master Control Program, highlights on an impressive chase sequence of two lightcycles riders.

Thursday, July 23, Walt Disney Pictures will present unseen footage "Tron 2.0" at San Diego Comic Con 2009, but before the panel takes place, producer Sean Bailey has shared interesting details about the forthcoming sequel. To MTV News, the executive producer of "Gone Baby Gone" insisted that this 1982's film sequel will serve as a "stand-alone sequel", but still stays true to the original.
"You don't have to know the '82 movie to come in and appreciate and enjoy this one," Bailey explained. "That said, we accept what happened in the '82 movie happened in '82. Our movie is set in 2010. We built a mythology that spans the intervening 28 years of, 'Here's what we think happened with Kevin Flynn and with [nefarious software corporation] Encom and all those principle characters. Here's what we think happened inside the Tron universe and in the real world."
As for the story, the producer revealed that Flynn's son, Sam,...
