Have you ever seen a movie so bad, that as you were watching it, you paid less attention to what was going on and more to the fact that you’re still allowing your brain to process it? Have you ever seen a movie so bad that the longer you watch it, the more horrified and worried you become at the sheer size of the balls on the director and screenwriter? Like if they would go that far then what would they do next? I’m prepared to admit that in my exhaustive search to give you my opinions on some of the best Asian cinema out there…I have often come across the worst.
Now I too have seen the dark side. And its kung-fu is strong. One in particular that I just have to get off my chest is Tokyo Gore Police. I think a moment of horrified silence would be appropriate here.

The seventh annual Another Hole In the Head Film Festival is currently running in San Francisco from July 8th through the 29th. It’s a genre fest featuring domestic and international horror, sci-fi, and exploitation films, and it just may be the first and last chance to see some of these on the big-screen. There are thirty-two films at the fest this year, and we’re trying to see and cover as many as possible. (And by we I mean me…) Samurai Princess – directed by Kengo Kaji, Japan; upcoming screenings 7/15 5pm Synopsis: Tokyo Gore Police screenwriter Kengo Kaji makes his directorial debut with this tale of samurais, androids, and body modification gone awry. A mad scientist (as if there’s any other kind) is harvesting bodies for parts and organs used to create fighting machines designed for slaughter. A disgraced monk fights fire with fire mechanized flesh with mechanized flesh and designs his own superior samurai in...

Director: Kengo Kaji. Review: Adam P. “Samurai Princess” is a movie so ridiculous, I’m at a loss for words when trying to describe it. The film is written and directed by Kengo Kaji, who co-wrote the splatterfest “Tokyo Gore Police.” Like Gore Police, and “Machine Girl” before it, “Samurai Princess” is definitely a movie for the gore hounds with lots and lots of entrails, dismemberment, and head splitting. The violence is so over the top and gratuitous, it’s laughable. The plot is your classic revenge story- Girl gets attacked by soulless androids and left for dead. Girl gets saved by a white-haired Buddhist woman. Girl becomes an android herself and vows revenge against those who wronged her. Girl then goes on a bloody rampage killing anyone who gets in her way. Wash, rinse, repeat. The main character is played by adult-video actress Aino Kishi, and as you might expect,...

More Japanese gore madness arrives from 4Digital Asia in the shapely form of “Samurai Princess”, the cover art not coincidently bearing a striking resemblance to that of its recent sister in slaughter, “Chanbara Beauty”. The film’s pedigree should certainly give fans of the form reason to be excited, with it having been directed by Kengo Kaji, the co-writer of “Tokyo Gore Police”, and featuring effects by Yoshihiro Mishimura, the director of said genre highpoint. Also likely to be of no small enticement is the presence of Av actress Aino Kishi in the lead role, with support from fellow Av star Mihiro (recently in the horror “The Cruel Restaurant”). The film’s plot is essentially nonsense, with Aino Kishi playing neither a samurai nor a princess, but an android killing machine stitched together from the parts of eleven young girls who were raped and killed by a particularly nasty gang of miscreants.

An early heads up for Brit fans of Japanese, scantily clad, gore laden exploitation Cinema. Kengo Kaji’s (who wrote Tokyo Gore Police) splatter-fest Samurai Princess, is to be released on DVD in the UK in October. Featuring special make-up effects by Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police, Machine Girl and Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl) so we can be sure it won’t be short on bloody weirdness. Its too early for a look at the UK cover art, but as soon as we get our hands on it you’ll be the first know. Samurai Princess pits android assassin against mutant madmen in an alternate universe version of feudal Japan. Detachable chainsaw limbs and breast grenades are commonplace occurrences, while mad scientists twist the laws of nature to create sentient robots that can pass as human and crave souls.

In bob's review of Yorio: Samurai Zombie,, he commented that he's not much for films that serve only as vehicles for gore FX. A couple of years ago I might have countered him on this - even gone so far as to call him "a curmudgeon" (as he himself put it) - but as we come to the end of another year, saturated with overt-the-top Japanese gore, sex and weirdness, I have to admit I'm starting to agree with him. This style of filmmaking is starting to seem a little flimsy and unless someone comes along and transplants all this bizarro stuff into a decent screenplay with better execution, I predict that films like Samurai Princess are going to quickly stop being such crowd-pleasers.

No sooner had we posted the news about the U.S. date for Park Chan-wook’s Thirst than we found out about a bunch more Asian titles coming to the big screen this summer—in Manhattan, at least. Yes, the New York Asian Film Festival is gearing up to unleash what it calls “our biggest, most ridiculous [event] yet!”

Two new trailers from the far east (Hong Kong and Japan) hit the web recently, and both are worth a gander. Neither are truly offensive, but they're probably still not safe for work... First up is the latest film from prolific director Johnnie To. Vengeance stars Johnny Hallyday as a grieving father who travels to Hong Kong to avenge the death of his daughter. Looks like a promising mix of Taken and The Horseman... Stylish, bloody, and with a little humping thrown in for good measure. To's films are hit and miss, but with his output that still amounts to a lot of incredibly cool movies. Some of his best include Fulltime Killer, Mad Detective, and the very odd Running On Karma. (via the fine folks at Twitch) Next is the latest Wtf movie from Japan. Samurai Princess is directed by Kengo Kaji, the writer behind the awesome Tokyo Gore Police. I...

The trailer for the latest gore-fest out of Japan hit online today. That's right, kids, Samurai Princess is on the way, and this chick is packin' some serious heat -- Rocket Feet! Scissor Legs! And yes, Breast Grenades! Aw yeah, mama!
Twitch Film scored the first look, and holy shit is it a helluva look!
From Kengo Kaji the writer of Tokyo Gore Police, comes Samurai Princess! The story takes place sometime, somewhere in a world during the Samurai era, where people live together with highly developed mechanical dolls. However, excessively developed mechanical dolls start causing harm to the human society, leading to ghastly bloodshed happening all over the place.
Under the circumstances, Kyoraku, a mad scientist, creates a female ninja mechanical doll. Equipped with 11 types of built-in weapons, the ninja doll, who will not die even if she is slashed by a sword or shot by a gun, is virtually indestructible.

For everyone with yellow fever: Kengo Kaji's upcoming Samurai Princess (Samurai purinsesu: gedô-hime) is self-described as an "erotic-grotesque action film", and you can watch the trailer below. Yoshihiro Nishimura (of Tokyo Gore Police) did the incredibly bloody special FX, and the storyline seems fairly insane (but fun!):

Straight from the twisted mind of Kengo Kaji, a.k.a that freak who wrote the screenplay for Tokyo Gore Police comes the equally insane and gore filled Samurai Princess. While I personally found G police a little weak in the story department it was a blast to see with a festival crowd and I know there are a whole ton of horror hounds who'll be itching to see this one.

Get ready for the gore, boys and girls, because we’ve got your very first look at the trailer for Samurai Princess, the latest trash gore flick out of Japan. This on e comes from director Kengo Kaji who wrote the screenplay for Tokyo Gore Police while Tgp director Yoshi Nishimura’s fingerprints are all over this thing what with Nishimura serving as the film’s producer. The budget here looks a step lower here than on Tokyo Gore but budget certainly places no limitations on imagination and this is vintage stuff. Exploding heads? Breast bombs? Flying chainsaws? Massive blood sprays? You betcha, they’re all in there. Watch for the skeleton shot in particular, it’s vintage stuff.

Samurai Princess (GEDÔ-hime) is the latest work by Tokyo Gore Police writer Kengo Kaji and should, if we can trust the already released synopsis, please fans of the neo-japanese trash cinema just as well as Tgp did. The screenplay was written by Sôtarô Hayashi, Tokyo Gore Police director Yoshihiro Nishimura) was responsible for the special make-up effects. The story takes place in an alternative Samurai era where people live together with highly developed mechanical dolls until some of them begin to run amok and slaughter people in gory bloodsheds. After hearing of these incidents, a mad scientist develops a nearly indestructible female ninja mechanical doll and equips her with 11 types of built-in (of course!) weapons to stop her mechanical brothers once and for all…

I will readily admit, I wasn't a huge fan of The Machine Girl, but with a crowd at a fest it was quite enjoyable. Not so with Tokyo Gore Police. I found it humdrum and boring, and was secretly hoping it would end quick. This is odd considering I'm a fan of gore, but the thin storyline and the poor cut-scene photography really turned me off. The action was nothing more then a comic book, shifting panels and seriously disturbing the flow.
The story revolves around Ruka, a Tokyo Police Corp officer who is considered a "model hunter". What does she hunt? Strange humans called "Engineers" who not only have the ability to get shot countless times (spraying blood and all) and keep ticking, but if...
