Lucasfilm released a new trailer for The Acolyte yesterday (see below) to mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, and a new poster for the next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series has now been unveiled at Ccxp Mexico.
Some fans on social media initially attempted to pass this off as our first look at Darth Plagueis, but a closer look (see the knives?) reveals that it's actually Amandla Stenberg's character, Mae.
Possible spoilers ahead.
Speaking of Master Sol's former apprentice, a rumor relating to this enigmatic Force-wielder has re-emerged with some additional details. According to Daniel Richtman, both Stenberg and Manny Jacinto will actually play dual roles as two pairs of twins - one good, one evil.

To mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, Lucasfilm has released a brand-new trailer and poster for its next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte.
In addition to some exciting lightsaber action, the teaser reveals more story details, as Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) vows to bring his wayward former apprentice Mae (Amandla Stenberg) to justice.
Mae doesn't appear to be the only one taking down Jedi, however, as we also get a first proper look at the mysterious Sith villain who is behind the murders. His (her?) face is obscured (with a mask not too dissimilar to the ones Kylo Ren and his Knights wore in the sequel trilogy), which may indicate that this formidable warrior will ultimately be unveiled as an already established character.

With now just one month to go until Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres on Disney+, a new banner has surfaced (via SFFGazette.com) highlighting the show's leads...and potentially its mysterious villain!
Mae, Sol, Venestra, Jecki, Indara, Yord, Kelnacca and Mother Aniseya are among those featured, but to the right of Sol is a mysterious figure clad in all black and wielding the red lightsaber we're betting is the same one featured in the trailers. Could this be our first look at The Acolyte's Sith baddie?
It seems likely, particularly with a helmet that instantly brings up memories of Darth Vader and the Sith Inquisitors. In fact, on closer inspection, it almost seems to boast a toothy grin, a sign perhaps that whoever is beneath the mask has a monstrous side.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Leaked Footage Features An Intense Force Battle And A Badass Carrie-Anne Moss
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace returns to theaters this weekend to celebrate its 25th anniversary. With a month or so before The Acolyte premieres on Disney+, Lucasfilm is looking to build hype for that by attaching an extended preview to the 1999 movie.
Now, that sneak peek has leaked online (via SFFGazette.com) and it features an edge-of-your-seat clash.
The clip kicks off with Amandala Stenberg's Mae entering a cantina and approaching a hooded figure who we soon learn is Carrie-Anne Moss's Jedi Master Indara.
A fight ensues which highlights martial arts and the Force, with Indara eventually wielding her green lightsaber as the footage comes to an end (it's then followed by a previously released trailer). The action here is top-notch and may sway those who have written The Acolyte off before it's even begun.

Lucasfilm has dealt with plenty of shakeups over “Star Wars” recently, but now the studio is facing a full-fledged lawsuit over their beloved franchise. Lawyers for producer Karyn McCarthy have filed a lawsuit against Lucasfilm over her axing from the upcoming Disney+ “Star Wars” show “The Acolyte,” Deadline is reporting.
According to filings obtained by Deadline and submitted to the LA Superior Court on Tuesday, McCarthy — whose former producing credits include “Ballers,” “Insecure,” and “House of Cards” — is suing for breach of contract over her dismissal from “The Acolyte,” an upcoming “Star Wars” show created by “Russian Doll’s” Leslye Headland. The specific monetary damages asked for are unclear, but the lawsuit claims that McCarthy lost out on “millions of dollars” as a result of Lucasfilm’s alleged “bad faith and wrongful termination.”

The comedy-action animated series "Boons and Curses," which was set to premiere sometime in 2023 on Netflix, has been unfortunately axed by the streaming service quite suddenly (via The Hollywood Reporter). Creator and executive producer Jaydeep Hasrajani and co-executive producer Jake Goldman and their team were left feeling pretty dejected after the series cancellation, a decision made by Netflix after their fairly recent announcement of losing 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter.
"Boons and Curses" was not the only animated series to be canceled, as Netflix also shut down other projects in production, including Jeff King's "Dino Daycare" and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's...

Aussie actor Luke Mitchell is back on U.S. television thanks to a drama set in a small New England town filmed near Montreal.
Welcome to the international world of TV.
Mitchell is starring in the new drama The Republic of Sarah, airing at 9 p.m. Mondays on The CW.
Sarah is fairly high-concept for The CW. A large vein of a valuable mineral used in electronics is discovered under the small town of Greylock, N.H. Sarah Cooper, a local history teacher, attempts to save the town using a legal loophole built on mapping errors from colonial times.
Mitchell found the show's concept intriguing.
“I was really drawn to the world,” he recalled in a Zoom interview from Sydney. “I really liked the small-town vibe and the fact that everyone knows everyone. There are cute, quirky, flawed characters that all have a past, all have their own challenges to work through.

“Sound of Metal” has won the award for sound mixing in a live-action motion picture at the 57th annual Cas Awards, which were presented by the Cinema Audio Society in a virtual ceremony on Saturday.
The film beat three other Oscar nominees in the Best Sound category, “Greyhound,” “Mank” and “News of the World,” along with “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
The Cas Awards winner has gone on to win the Oscar in the Best Sound Mixing category for the last three years in a row, and five times in the last decade. But this year the Oscars combined Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing into a single Best Sound category, so the Cas’ effectiveness at predicting the Oscars has yet to be determined.
On Friday, “Greyhound” won the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Award in the category that in the past most closely corresponded to the Oscars sound-editing award.

The live-action feature nominees for the 57th annual Cas Awards for sound mixing (presented virtually on April 17) include “Greyhound,” “Mank,” “News of the World,” “Sound of Metal,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” Darius Marder’s innovative “Sound of Metal,” the frontrunner, also split the Motion Picture Sound Editors nominations with Paul Greengrass’ “News of the World,” with three nods.
Not making the cut, though, was Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” the time inversion spy thriller, which was roundly criticized for mixing its dialogue way too low. Also overlooked was George Clooney’s sci-fi drama, “The Midnight Sky,” though the director will be honored as Cas Filmmaker.
In terms of the Oscar race, the Academy has consolidated sound editing and mixing onto a single category for the first time this season.
Seven-time Oscar-nominated sound mixer William B. Kaplan is this year’s Cas Career Achievement Honoree.

When the Sci Fi Fidelity podcast began in the fall of 2016, Den of Geek was just over half its current age and podcasts were experiencing a surge in popularity. As a result, we dove into our analysis of science fiction and supernatural television shows with enough fervor to ignite listener interest in the unsung heroes of the genre TV field through thoughtful reviews, insightful interviews, and discussions of our favorite aspects of this corner of the entertainment world. Alas, however, the journey has come to an end just shy of the podcast’s fourth anniversary as we move the discussion to our video outlets, but we wanted to take some time to look back at the best moments from our hundred-episode run.

Our genre television podcast hosts take a look at the premise behind The Umbrella Academy with special guest, executive producer Jeff King.
The Umbrella Academy is a complex show that left a lot of open-ended question unanswered when all was said and done, but on Sci Fi Fidelity, we wanted to talk a look at the show’s premise without getting too far into spoiler territory. Instead, the discussion this week centers more around an appreciation for the dark yet unusually playful look at superheroes past their heyday. What would it mean for a superteam if at a young age they were trained strictly for a life they didn’t necessarily want once they grew older?
The podcast hosts examine each character from the perspective of the first two episodes of The Umbrella Academy, and their speculation about where the series would head was surprisingly...

The Umbrella Academy executive producer and DC comics writer Jeff King shares his unique perspective on the Netflix adaptation.
The Umbrella Academy is not your average comic book adaptation. Instead of focusing on superheroes in their heyday, the series takes a look at an adopted family bred to be a superteam who instead became fractured and lost in their adulthood. Executive producer Jeff King, who is known for his work with DC’s Convergence miniseries and who has produced for shows like White Collar, Continuum, and Blindspot, sees the Netflix series as a chance for viewers to connect with the characters as they look back on a troubled life before conquering an unknown future… or lack thereof.
King knows how difficult it is to bring a comic successfully off the page and onto the screen, but his background with DC Comics gives him an edge. “Having a...

There’s a certain sort of oddity that feels less like imagination or creativity than its opposite — as though the maker of a given work of art were out of ideas as to how to keep us on the hook and, instead, defaulted to the most self-consciously strange option.
So it is, unfortunately, with “The Umbrella Academy,” Netflix’s new superhero show based on a series of comic books by rock singer Gerard Way. These aren’t regular superheroes — they’re cool superheroes, with oddball talents and edgy attitudes and a talking chimp butler! They’re vaguely entangled with a pair of suit-wearing assassins, played by an out-of-place Mary J. Blige and Cameron Britton. And when they get in physical fights, it’s soundtracked by “ironic” peppy pop music, the clearest sign a show is more interested in maintaining a pose than in showing us something we haven’t seen before.

CBS has ordered three more drama pilots for the 2019-2020 season.
Among the orders is “Frankenstein” from writer and executive producer Jason Tracey. In the series, a San Francisco homicide detective is mysteriously brought back to life after being killed in the line of duty, but as he resumes his old life and he and his wife realize he isn’t the same person he used to be, they zero in on the strange man behind his resurrection – Dr. Victor Frankenstein.
Rob Doherty will executive produce along with Tracey, with CBS Television Studios producing.
Next is “Republic of Sarah,” in which a small New Hampshire town is thrust onto the world stage when the discovery of a valuable resource within its borders compels the residents to declare themselves an independent nation. That sets the unlikely young mayor and her cabinet of inexperienced locals on the path of running a brand new country.
