Vampires of New Orleans is written by Chris Kobin (2001 Maniacs) and directed by Ashley Hamilton who has appeared as an actor in films like Iron Man 3, but makes his directorial debut here. It tells the tale of four friends who head off to Nola for some “fun times” but wind up in the presence of a peculiar New Orleans family who are plagued by a voodoo curse. Poor bastards.
The cast intrigued me immediately with horror mainstays like Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye (Insidious) on board, and a whole load of other acting talents, many of whom do a good job here. The problem here is, however, the tired cliches it approaches time and again.

As Elise Rainier in the Insidious movies, Lin Shaye goes up against the forces of evil to protect the innocent, but in Ashley Hamilton's new horror movie, Gothic Harvest, she plays the patriarch of a family who has succumbed to an evil curse for more than a century... and will sacrifice unsuspecting visitors to keep their immortal pact intact.
With Gothic Harvest now on DVD from Cinedigm (following its VOD and digital release back in October), Daily Dead had the great pleasure of catching up with Shaye to discuss her compelling role in Gothic Harvest, and the prolific actor also talked about working with her brother, Bob, on his new movie Ambition, what viewers can expect from Nicolas Pesce's The Grudge, her role as a Nazi hunter in Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and her hopes for another Insidious film.

At school Cassie is pursued by two boys: Sam, sweetly awkward and J.R., handsome and wealthy. “We knew how good we had it.”
John Milius, 33 years old, said that to the Los Angeles Times in 1977. At the time, he was shooting Big Wednesday, his third full-blown feature film as a director. Supposedly, it was about surfing in Southern California. In truth, the movie was about John, and that one glorious moment in his life – those years on the beach, in the early 1960s – when he was briefly at one with the times.
Milius was back on the beach Wednesday, where he anchored a gathering at Duke’s, in Malibu. The occasion was a memorial service for Jan-Michael Vincent, who died last February after a long, troubled life that was only briefly interrupted by his role as surf legend Matt Johnson in Big Wednesday.

Jan-Michael Vincent’s passion for the ocean, as captured in the classic surfer film Big Wednesday, will be celebrated at a special memorial service to be held next month in Malibu.
The producers of the 2011 documentary Hollywood Don’t Surf, which explores the film industry’s relationship with surfing, are sponsoring the memorial, which comes after Vincent died February 10 at age 73. Appropriately enough, the event will be held at Malibu surfer hangout Duke’s. Big Wednesday director John Milius will co-host the event and appear.
“Jmv, as he called himself, passed away in relative obscurity a couple of months ago back east, and most of the coverage he got focused on the wrong part of his life,” said Hollywood Don’t Surf producer Chris Kobin. “We want to look at the great career he had, both as an actor and a surfer, so we’ve invited his friends and fans to come celebrate him.

If you think the worst horror film of 2010 was the remake/reboot/raping of Nightmare on Elm Street, you obviously haven't seen 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, the sequel to 2005's remake of the H. G. Lewis drive-in classic. I'd suggest you leave it that way, as returning director Tim Sullivan unleashes the cinematic equivalent of a night of excessive drinking. By the time the credits roll, you'll feel nauseated and find yourself a few billion brain cells lighter.
The movie starts as the ghosts of Pleasant Valley rematerializing for the anniversary of their death at the hands of rogue Yankee soldiers. But they discover the supply of Northerners to kill and consume has dried up, as the local sheriff has pulled the detour signs that drive tourists their way.

Director Tim Sullivan has returned with his much anticipated sequel 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams to an astounding reception. Certain films stick with you and have a special place in your heart, some fans have Star Wars, personally I have 2001 Maniacs. With the combination of blood, guts, gore, boobs and insane comedy Sullivan has come up with the perfect equasion for the fans and it works to perfection! I have followed the making of Field of Screams before it started filming in Iowa last summer, through the name change, petitioning to get a director's cut out in time for the sequels release, entering the world of Twitter, all the way to the film's release on July 20th to an astounding reception from the fans, how do I know this you might ask? Netflix rented the film out instantly and ordered more copies! Many stores shelves sold out and also had to reorder!

Writer-director Tim Sullivan told Shock Till You Drop that 2001 Maniacs is now being called 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams. The sequel to Sullivan's over the top remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis' Two Thousand Maniacs, was originally titled 2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hillbillys. "I know. It has been very confusing with all the title changes. Bottom line is, when Chris Kobin and Chris Tuffin and I wrote this sucker, the idea was to have the Maniacs travel to California. By the time we made it, we were shooting in Iowa so the title didn't exactly fit any more," Sullivan explained to Shock.

That niche of the horror genre focusing on inner-city terrors has been rife with real stinkers, to say the least. Roll on up to Blockbuster, where copies of Vampiyaz and Zombiez kick back in lounge chairs on the bottom of the video shelf deservedly collecting dust, and you’ll see what I mean. Leave it to Snoop Dogg to clean house and make amends for 2001’s Bones with Hood Of Horror, a vigorous and droll triumvirate of gore-drenched urban morality tales linked by a supernatural figure known as the Hound of Hell (played by you know who). Rather than attempt to slip Snoop into a new, untried skin à la Bones, Hood embraces his pop-culture personality without reserve, “Snoop speak” and all—but that’s just an added bizzle, er, bonus to what makes the film work. It actually has a certain level of smarts going for it, along with...

NEW YORK -- Rhino Films is riding the rage for remakes of 1960s and '70s horror films by developing a redo of the 1967 cult classic She Freak with screenwriting duo Tim Sullivan and Chris Kobin. Sullivan and Kobin recently penned another horror remake, 2001 Maniacs, starring Robert Englund, for GreeneStreet Films' genre arm Raw Nerve. Maniacs is in postproduction. Originally produced by horrormeister David Friedman, the campy Freak offers a female twist on The Phantom of the Opera set amid a traveling rock 'n' roll carnival sideshow. Sullivan, who helmed Maniacs, is circling directorial duties on Freak.
