Producers of “The Garcias” have re-acquired the rights to the family comedy series from HBO Max and are shopping the show to other buyers.
HBO Max canceled the series after Season 1 aired last year. New Cadence Prods. has reclaimed the streaming and international rights to the 10 episodes and is seeking a new home for the show that revolves around a large, multicultural and multigenerational Latino family.
HBO Max still had nine years left on its license for Season 1 of “The Garcias” after dropping the series. New Cadence, headed by “The Garcias” co-creator/showrunner Jeff Valdez and investor Sol Trujillo, struck a deal with HBO Max that gives them the ability to produce new episodes of the series and sell the existing episodes to a rival outlet. New Cadence’s deal with HBO Max already was structured so as to ensure that the company retained long-term ownership of “The Garcias” outright.

The Garcias are all grown up in the HBO Max reboot of the landmark Nickelodeon series The Brothers Garcia. For Jeff Valdez, executive producer and showrunner, the project is this against-all-odds labor of love. Over a decade-plus, he worked through network meetings, a raging pandemic, and Mother Nature to see his vision realized. That vision picks up more than 20 years after the landmark original series first hit the airwaves. The cast all return, including parents Ray (Carlos Lacámara) and Sonia (Ada Maris) with their kids George (Bobby Gonzalez), Carlos (Jeffrey Licon), and Lorena (Vaneza Pitynsk). They are sharing a big beach house with their respective spouses and children for the summer in Riviera Maya, Mexico, and they’ll see their share of guests over the course of the season. Even youngest sibling Larry (Alvin Alvarez) is back, checking in from space — the character is living his dream as an astronaut.

Reviving a classic TV series is never an easy feat - just take it from "The Garcias" showrunner Jeff Valdez. The executive producer and cocreator of Nickelodeon's "The Brothers Garcia" - a family sitcom that follows the three Garcia brothers growing up in San Antonio - spent a decade getting the rights back to his show and developing its reboot for HBO Max. With a fresh take on the hit 2000s series, Valdez is immensely proud of the story he's been able to re-create.

HBO Max is reviving another classic series for its latest reboot project. "The Brothers Garcia," the hit Latinx sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon in the early 2000s, is being reimagined as a new series called "The Garcias."
The reboot aims to bolster US Latinx representation to create a "sense of normalcy" and dismantle stereotypes. "The Brothers Garcia" was considered groundbreaking for being the first English-language sitcom to have an all-Latinx cast and creative team. This time, 81 percent of the cast of "The Garcias" is Latinx, while the other 19 percent are Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (Apia).
"The Brothers Garcia" ran for four seasons from 2000 to 2004. Some of the original members of the Garcia family will reunite in the forthcoming reboot. The series, which has been ten years in the making, will make its way to HBO Max on April 14. Jeff Valdez - who co-created...

“Black Bird,” a limited series starring Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser, will premiere on Apple TV Plus this July 8, the streamer announced Thursday.
Based on James Keene and Hillel Levin’s true crime memoir “In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption,” “Black Bird” stars Egerton as Keene, a police officer’s son who is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison for drug dealing. While serving his sentence, he is offered a chance for early parole, on the condition that he move to a prison for the criminally insane and befriend serial killer Larry Hall (Hauser). Keene reluctantly agrees to the unusual case, and develops a complicated relationship with Hall as he attempts to discover the truth behind the murders the convict is suspected of committing. In addition to Egerton and Hauser, the series also stars Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear and Ray Liotta.

Mysterious Skin. It's sure not What's Up, Doc?, you guys. That was last week's pick for "Best Movie Ever?", and it happened to fall in line with most of the selections in this column, since it features memorable nuttiness, great one-liners, a cavalcade of spicy female characters, and honesty when it's required. The only way that Mysterious Skin relates is the honesty tenet, and it pretty much blows away the competition when it comes to honestly exploring the psychological upshot of trauma and sexual abuse. The movie's gay characters are brilliantly rendered too, which is why it's no shock that "New Queer Cinema" filmmaker Gregg Araki is at the helm here.
Based on Scott Helm's 1996 book, Mysterious Skin tracks the separate, but parallel lives of two teenage boys who are coping with the same unthinkable event from their childhoods. One is a sheltered amnesiac named Brady (Brian Lackey), who has...

Chicago – Oscar madness has left the Round Up a little weary of high profile, award-bait movies. We need a break from the Oscars and what better way to do that than with a few titles that might have slipped through the cracks while everyone was singing “Jai Ho”.
Catch up with some of your favorite characters from the cult hit “Dead Like Me,” watch the latest in Warner Brothers’ direct-to-dvd horror series known as “Raw Feed,” and check out a documentary that I think everyone thought would make bigger waves than it did, Bill Maher’s “Religulous”.
All three of these titles were released on February 17th, 2009.

There’s something about grocery stores. They have a sort of charm that’s currently going three for three, as far as recent horror/sci-fi entries with that setting go. Both The Mist and last year’s Splinter were excellent examples of the “trapped in a market” theme, and now comes Warner’s Raw Feed DVD release Alien Raiders (out February 17)—which, while not overly original, is nonetheless pretty awesome.
The film opens with some shaky handheld insight into our protagonists, getting ready for their next mission. Intercut between video clips and the main titles are shots of hands preparing some seriously heavy firepower. This is a risky move; it basically promises, “This flick is going to have bad-ass written all over it.” And it works. The characters we’re following are a team of operatives/mercenaries/soldiers of some sort with rad names like Ritter (Carlos Bernard), Sterling (Courtney Ford...

We've been keeping tabs on Alien Raiders for some time now, even if its various name changes have made that task a bit more difficult than usual. But that's all water under the bridge now that the official DVD artwork and extras have been announced.
