After the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday night denied a request to issue emergency relief blocking Texas’ new law that bans abortion at six weeks and, say opponents, effectively eliminates access to abortions statewide, some big names in entertainment expressed their opinions about the legislation.
A group of prominent actors, musicians and other artists and companies swiftly responded to the news on social media. Reese Witherspoon, Alyssa Milano, Dua Lipa, Kerry Washington, St. Vincent, Eva Longoria Baston, Bad Robot and P!nk were among them. Many shared an image with the text, “I stand in solidarity with Texans & people everywhere seeking reproductive freedom.” The full list of the celebrities who support that sentiment is below; the vast majority of the signatories are women.
Washington also shared a link to a Planned Parenthood petition which, among other things, maintains that “health care — including safe, legal abortion — is a human right.

Age is just a number, and Milo Manheim might prove that adage true again. The 17-year-old is one of the frontrunners to win “Dancing with the Stars” and would in turn become the show’s youngest male champ ever.
The “Zombies” star, who has the second highest average score this season, would break the record currently held by Jordan Fisher, then 23 when he took home the Mirrorball trophy in Season 25. Fisher had ended the 21-season, 10-and-a-half-year reign of Apolo Anton Ohno, who won Season 4 on his 25th birthday.

Manheim, who was 4 when “Dancing” premiered in 2005, would also be the first male teenager to win. Not unlike the Oscars, younger women have fared better on “Dancing” than younger men, resulting in three female teen champs. Laurie Hernandez, the youngest overall winner, was 16 when...

The fourth installment of Syfy's mega-popular Sharknado series premiered Sunday. And in case there was any question that The 4th Awakens would be a slight Star Wars parody, the film answered that right away by opening with an "Episode IV" scrolling prologue reminiscent of George Lucas' space franchise.
Ian Ziering was back as chainsaw-touting Fin Shepard, alongside Tara Reid and David Hasselhoff. With a new team of allies by their side, they battled the Sharknados – which this time have evolved into fire-breathing, hail-throwing, sand-blasting threats.

Five years since the last Sharknado attack, the deadly flying sharks are back in “Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens” — and this time they’re invading Sin City. The first official trailer for the SyFy made-for-tv film has just arrived, and it’s even more ridiculous that we expected.
The story picks up five years after the third film when Fin (Ian Ziering) and his family thought they were safe from the man-eating sharks. Everything changes when the killers return with a vengeance, this time in Las Vegas. And one thing that’s for sure, “what happens in Vegas, sure as hell won’t stay there.”

I don’t know why, but for some reason people love these stupid-ass Sharknado movies. There’s a fourth film currently in production, and it has been given groan-worthy Star Wars-inspired title. Played Out: Dyer’s Sophomore Feature Overly Familiar and Underwhelming
Director Julia Dyer, again teaming with screenwriter sister Gretchen, mount their first project since their successfully received 1996 independent feature, Late Bloomers, with a 1970s sexual revolution period piece, The Playroom. While there are certain sensational and dramatic elements that may put one in mind of a cross between something like Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Flowers in the Attic, the feature, while it certainly avoids camp cliché, also avoids any type of practical engagement with its sordidly unhappy elements. While the adults in the Dyer sisters’ latest feature suffer the children, so do they suffer the patience of an audience desperately searching for a point of interest in the troupe presented to us here.

Title: The Playroom Director: Julia Dyer Starring: John Hawkes, Molly Parker, Olivia Harris, Jonathan Brooks, Lydia McKay, Alexandra Doke, Ian Veteto, Jonathon McClendon, Cody Linley Lovingly captured but rather dramatically inert, “The Playroom” is a slice of 1970s-era familial portraiture, with a special focus on wandering eyes and the secret lives of adults. If “The Ice Storm” was a band, think of this as its minor-chord, B-feature opening act, a boxed-in, presumably autobiographical tale in which a quartet of kids manage their mother’s alcoholism and nice-guy father’s enabling… With Imagination! Set in 1975, “The Playroom” centers on the home life of lawyer Martin Cantwell (John Hawkes) and his scotch-dependent, emotionally distant wife, Donna (Molly Parker). The couple has [ Read More ]

The ’70s-set family drama The Playroom, starring John Hawkes and the underrated Molly Parker premiered last spring at the Tribeca Fim Festival, but the first clip has newly arrived. Now we have the first theatrical trailer for the film which failed to get much traction.
Freestyle’s upcoming indie drama directed by Julia Dyer (Late Bloomers) is slated for a day and date release on theatrical and DVD/VOD February 8th, 2013. The film written by Julia’s sister Gretchen Dyer sees a family straining beneath a pleasant facade.
The film also stars Molly Parker, Cody Linley, Lydia MacKay, and Olivia Harris. It seems like one of Hawkes’ forgettable indies, but check it out for yourself and maybe you’ll feel differently.

Part of the ever-expanding trend toward sitcoms that are in many ways throwbacks to the style and sensibilities of the powerhouses of the eighties and nineties, Melissa & Joey impressed with its first season, and its time for more.
Much as it was something of a surprise to me, this show (along with several others in the category, such as the original TV Land programs) took off, and deservedly so. There’s something about the low-key, quip-fueled comedy that fell out of favor over the last couple of decades, and it’s interesting to see it making such a strong comeback.
Melissa & Joey, though the stars are occasionally overboard with their antagonism, delivered through its entire first season, and tonight’s episodes are just as good.
Our home is in shambles, as work progresses at a snail’s pace, and the entire household is feeling the strain of the renovation project.

A close friend of the Linley family talks to HollywoodLife.com about Chad’s history with drugs and his recent recovery. It’s so tragic that he died!
Hannah Montana star Cody Linley’s older brother Chad sadly passed away last Saturday, and his family and friends are still mourning his loss. We spoke to a friend of the Linley family who reveals Chad had a long struggle with drugs, but says things were looking up for Chad right before he died.
“Chad struggled with partying and drugs for years, but he was doing really well before he died,” reveals our source. “He was DJ-ing and was the happiest he’d been for a long time. He was really trying to get his life on track…so this is devastating and totally unexpected. We are shocked.”
Chad was also focusing on his education, and was about to graduate from the Media Tech Institute in Houston.

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Phase 4 Films.
**here be spoilers (of course).
Director: Tyler Oliver.
Writers: Tyler Oliver and Jamieson Stern.
Forget Me Not is a horror film from Tyler Oliver, which will release on DVD May 24th, 2011, through Phase 4 Films. The film stars Carly Schroeder (Prey), Cody Linley (Cheaper by the Dozen), and Brie Gabrielle, in what is a mostly tense thriller. Taking some license with the Ring and Red Mist, Forget Me Not introduces a young girl placed in a coma, by some misguided youth. In this unconscious state, Angela (Brittany Renee Finamore) takes revenge on these kids, now grown up, by reliving a childhood game. The dominoes fall one by one, as Oliver develops a supernatural mythos involving characters returning from the grave. Few characters survive their time in this local graveyard.
Comparisons to other films crop up pretty quick into this film.

Teen horror movies may be a dime a dozen, but after watching the trailer for Forget Me Not, I have no problem saying I'd be willing to shell out a dozen dimes or so to watch it. Better start saving up your dimes because Forget Me Not will be arriving on DVD shelves in May.
The supernatural tweener terror stars the likes of Carly Schroeder ("Lizzy McGuire"), Cody Linley ("Hannah Montana), Chloe Bridges (Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam), and Jillian Murray (The Graves). If you're not familiar with any of those names, all you need to know are the words "young" and "photogenic".
