Bobby Shmurda has just been sentenced to 4 years in prison for having a shank, but the good news for him ... it doesn't mean extra time behind bars. The rapper -- who is already serving 7 years for his murder conspiracy conviction -- appeared in court with attorney Paul London Friday and pled guilty to the crime of attempted promoting prison contraband. The new sentence runs concurrently ... meaning it won't be tacked on to his 7 year sentence.

Daniel Bryan announced his retirement from professional wrestling this week, ending one of the most unique and unexpected careers ever.
Bryan’s rise from the independents to the main event of Wrestlemania XXX is so unlikely, Hollywood writers probably couldn’t script it. Bryan made it in the big time because he was one of the most gifted technical wrestlers of the past 15 years. However, a lot of what brought Bryan to the top and beyond was due to circumstances that were completely beyond his control. One reverse decision at any of these points, and Bryan could have had a different career entirely.
Did you know that Bryan may have ended up in WCW in 2000, or in a tag team with Brian Kendrick on Raw in 2009? Did you know that Bryan’s Money in the Bank win and subsequent World Title cash-in weren’t decided until the day of the show?...

There’s no doubts about it, Roman Reigns is the man hand-picked to be World Wrestling Entertainment’s big babyface sensation from here on out. In the picture above, it’s perhaps no accident that Reigns is in the foreground whilst John Cena takes up much of the background. Despite his continued popularity with WWE’s core demographic, Cena is no longer the sole apple of WWE’s eye.
Incredibly, things nearly didn’t work for Roman Reigns. In this week’s article, the reason why is revealed by none other than WWE Hall Of Fame announcer Jim Ross. That’s what this list is all about, exploring the pro wrestling world to deliver 10 different facts that weren’t exactly common knowledge last week.
Joining Reigns, there are facts related to the likes of Mick Foley’s Mankind character, Aj Styles, The Rockers and even Paul London. In addition to that,...

As Tna cancels yet another tour, it seems that the fat lady has finished her warm ups when it comes to that company. For the longest time Tna has sat as the number two wrestling promotion in the United States, pretty much by default. But as the vultures begin to fly low in Dixieland a whole host of companies are vying for that spot.
Ring of Honor is the best placed to accomplish this, and has been for years. It has often been viewed as the modern-day Ecw, something which does Tna way too much justice if the assumption is that they are WCW. Either way, Ring of Honor has long been number three and most likely finds itself now at number two.
The current RoH roster is stacked, to say the least, and the most cursory glance at a Ring of Honor alumni page essentially offers a...

The Brian Kendrick is the latest former WWE superstar to return to WWE developmental promotion Nxt. His appearance comes a week after The Man Beast Rhyno resurfaced on Nxt TV. Whilst Rhyno squashed Elias Samson, Kendrick put in a shift, losing to Finn Bálor in a good main event match.
Kendrick was very well-received by the Nxt crowd and with good reason: Kendrick, who has been absent from WWE for almost six years, was a very exciting WWE superstar. His Tag Team Championship run with longtime partner and best friend Paul London is remembered fondly by fans.
Kendrick is exactly the type of former superstar that can be an asset to Nxt. He’s a hard-working, well-rounded veteran who can have good matches with the new generation of stars. Whether or not we will see any more of Kendrick is unknown. But, based on his performance against Bálor (who...

There were heavy hearts for WWE fans heading into the 2006 Royal Rumble because of the death of beloved former WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero, who tragically died of a heart attack two months earlier.
Even though Eddie was no longer with us, his name was uttered endlessly in the build up to the match mostly because of his good friend Rey Mysterio was a favorite in the match. Eddie had a long feud with Rey in 2005, but after Eddie’s death WWE had no problem in saying that Rey was one of his closest friends. While everybody else was also mourning Eddie’s death, Rey was wearing “Eg” armbands in tribute to his fallen friend.
This was a period in WWE where they were in a bit of a funk. There aren’t too many Royal Rumble matches where the Rumble match isn’t on last, but this is one of them.

Former WWE Superstar Brian Kendrick may be headed back to the organisation following a successful try-out in a dark match at the latest set of Nxt TV tapings.
Kendrick, who was trained in part by the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels, surprised fans at Full Sail University on Friday night by working a fast paced bout with popular indie star Sami Callihan, who has been working live shows for WWE as Solomon Crowe. Crowe would end up going over but Kendrick looked as good as ever in defeat.
We last saw Kendrick in Tna performing as a bizarre, mega-chilled out guru type gimmick that never really went anywhere or got over. It was a far cry from his zany, erratic performances as ‘Spanky’ in WWE which found him incredible success in the tag team division. Spanky and the outspoken Paul London would carry tag team gold for a total...

A lot of people have been talking about Benjamin Morris’ 538 piece, “Are Pro Wrestlers Dying at an Unusual Rate?”
Like Morris, I am neither an actuarial scientist nor a demographer. So, our interpretations of the data should be taken with a grain of salt. My results were somewhat different from Morris’ due to a difference data set and changes in how we calculated actuarial predictions.
Differences in methodology from Morris
I also used Social Security Actuarial Life Tables, but my “expected mortality rates” for the age groups were not the same as Morris’. For each wrestler, I calculated what their age would have been as of today. Then, based on gender, I looked up the number of lives (out of 100,000) that were expected to still be alive and converted that to a percentage. His analysis looked at wrestlers who were on 20+ WWF PPVs through 2002. I went with a...

“The Showstopper”, “Mr. Wrestlemania”, “The Heartbreak Kid”, or maybe you know him as one of the greatest of all time. Whatever you call him, Shawn Michaels wowed audiences worldwide with his wrestling skills, natural ability on the mic and general showmanship for over 25 years until he retired back in 2010. With hindsight, it’s easy to see just how much he has contributed to the wrestling industry, not only through the many wonderful matches and moments but also through the way he has trained other names during his original retirement, including Daniel Bryan, Paul London and Brian Kendrick.
For all the great matches though, there were many where Shawn was forced to work with those who he either didn’t match up well with or simply didn’t have the talent to pull off something spectacular. Whilst Hbk had plenty of matches that were “just there” as a result,...

Triple H has often been criticized for using “political power” and “creative influence” in order to boost his own profile and keep down his competition. Perhaps the most blatant demonstration of this was in 2002. Rob Van Dam was a popular upcoming star who needed the one big win in order to seal his main event status. The reported backstage news suggested that Van Dam was all set to win the World Heavyweight Title in 2002. Triple H didn’t like this. He is said to have got Vince’s ear and talked management out of this, and instead we saw Van Dam do the job in matches against Triple H.

Though tag team wrestling has taken a downturn in recent years it is worth remembering WWE once had a flourishing and dynamic tag team scene and experienced many boom periods where several great teams battled each other regularly and frequently headlined house shows due to their ability to craft long and dramatic contests.
For the purposes of this list I will be focusing only on tag teams who worked in the WWE (WWF) from the years 1986 to present day, with the only other rules being that the tag teams listed must have been a working team consistently for over 1 year and noticeably contributed to the development of the tag team division they served in.
10. Paul London and Brian Kendrick (2006-2007)
Not a choice many will agree with as WWE themselves tend to ignore one of the longest reigning tag team champion teams to ever work in the company. Winning the...

I’ve followed WWE off and on since around 1991, when I was but an 8 year old. The business now, nearly 22 years later, is totally different, and yet exactly the same as it always was. Whilst the look and feel of the product has evolved over time, WWE has always had the ability to enthral, captivate and frustrate in equal measure, and in that regard some things never change.
A good example of this is the way in which matches and storylines are booked. Every once in a while an event transpires that genuinely surprises – like Edge cashing in his Money In The Bank contract in 2006 against a broken John Cena, who had seemingly once again demonstrated his invulnerability – until Mr. Copeland cashed in with ruthlessness and opportunistic timing. Likewise, Eddie Guerrero snatching the WWE title at No Way Out 2004 took me by surprise. Marty Jannetty answering Shawn Michaels’ challenge to...

The WWE has never been short of beautiful Divas. The majority of them may not be the best wrestlers to ever grace the squared circle, in fact some of them may never even wrestle but for most that’s not the reason they have been hired. Most are former swimsuit and fitness models who are there to inject a large dose of sex appeal into the WWE product and give the large male audience a quick thrill.

The “Insane Icon,” is “Done.”
The most hyped story this week was Sting saying On Twitter that he was “Done.” Not via Tna TV or anything, Via Twitter. Because that’s how professionals deal with major announcements these days. Robert Roode announced early in the show that Sting was going to appear. Thing is that since they announced Roode’s title match against Storm was going to be at the PPV in April rather than the next one in March, they made it a bit obvious that something was going to go down at Victory Road in March. Otherwise why wouldn’t the title match just happen at Victory Road?
In the closing segment Sting came out as promised to address the Tweet that shook the world. Roode made his second appearance of the night to interrupt. Sting immediately converted over to Whacky Insane Icon Sting...

The Royal Rumble comes but once a year, and every year WWE does a great job promoting of heightening meaning to the event with past Royal Rumble moments. But every year it’s the same moments that get all the spotlight.
We’ve decided to put together a list of some of the Rumble moments that aren’t talked about as much as they should be. Some that are the very essence of what makes it unique, some that are memorable for all the wrong reasons. Either way, moments that WWE doesn’t really mention that often when recapping the Royal Rumble matches of previous years.
Ernest Miller dances to the Rumble – WWE Royal Rumble 2004
Sometimes when the action is coming thick and fast, the competitors need a little bit of down time. After all you could be in there for more than 60 minutes if you’re doing well.
