Elvis Presley is known as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, but his influence on country music is profound. Patty Loveless discussed how Elvis inspired her to make an album her brother and sister would have loved. Interestingly, the one single from the album is a cover of a George Jones classic.
Why Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, and others inspired a Patty Loveless album
In 2008, Loveless released an album called Sleepless Nights, which refers to itself as a “Traditional Country” album on its cover. During a 2008 interview with CMT, Loveless said the album was inspired by the musicians her older siblings, Roger and Dottie, played to her as a child.
“They would play those old records of Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline, Connie Smith, Ray Price, Jim Reeves, and George Jones, of course, and Elvis and everybody else,” Loveless recalled. “At a very early age, I was exposed to that music...

Elvis Presley inspired more country songs than you can shake a pair of blue suede shoes at. One of the more famous ones is Patty Loveless’ “I Try to Think About Elvis.” The track was initially more masculine. Here’s why it got changed.
Patty Loveless’ ‘I Try to Think About Elvis’ was originally about handguns and red meat
While Loveless brought “I Try to Think About Elvis” to life with her vocals, she had nothing to do with its writing. “I Try to Think About Elvis” was written by Gary Burr. Burr is also known for writing country classics like Juice Newton’s “Love’s Been a Little Bit Hard on Me” and Tim McGraw’s “Can’t Be Really Gone.”
During a 1995 interview with American Songwriter, Burr discussed how “I Try to Think About Elvis” evolved. “I had to rewrite ‘Elvis’ because it was a very testosterone-driven song,...

Charlie Worsham has been playing the long game for over a decade, and he’s finally poised to cash in with an all-star duets project he’s calling Compadres. Released this week, the five-song EP features collabs with A-listers Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Elle King, Dierks Bentley, and Kip Moore.
But before he was able to create Compadres, Worsham, 38, had to make peace with a now 10-year-old ghost. Back in 2013, the Mississippi native released Rubberband, his major-label Nashville debut. It failed to crack the Top 10 on the country albums chart,...

With the last two years of showbiz awards being very erratic, 2022 seemed to be the first year in a while where everything was back to normal, or at least the closest thing to it. In the midst of a still ongoing pandemic, we managed to get a full slate of entertainment awards ceremonies and, with that, an entire slate of amazing moments that would define the year. Below, 15 of our site’s editors and contributors explain which moments were the best for them.
Many of these moments came from specific wins. Matthew Stewart was incredibly moved by Troy Kotsur’s Best Supporting Actor win at the Oscars. Daniel Montgomery loved “Squid Game” getting rewarded at this year’s Emmys and bringing attention to international productions. David Buchanan was over the moon when the recent revival of “Company” won five Tony Awards only seven months after the passing of the show’s composer,...

Katy Perry and Thomas Rhett brought down the house at the 56th Annual CMA Awards. Making her CMA Awards debut, Perry teamed up with Thomas Rhett to perform their pop-country collaboration, “Where We Started”, at Wednesday night’s star-studded show.
Perry was dressed in a long denim dress and a signature black cowboy hat for the performance, while Thomas Rhett opted for a sleek leather jacket.
The moving melody of “Where We Started” had the crowd on their feet and in their feelings as they grooved along to the sweet song.
The pair’s performance comes just weeks after they released the music video for the hit song. The ethereal visual sees the pair singing to each other after an intense walk through sheets forces them to meet.
In April, Thomas Rhett dished to Et about the collaboration and how it came to be.

Entertainer of the Year nominee Chris Stapleton brought out five-time CMA winner Patty Loveless for a haunting collaboration on “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” at the 2022 CMA Awards. The performance aimed to lift up the state of Kentucky, where both singers were raised, and highlight its historic struggles with flooding earlier this year.

Carly Pearce said she was asking herself, “What would Patty Loveless do?” while writing her new song “Next Girl” with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. It’s clearly not just a talking point. The compact, just-shy-of-three-minutes single instantly evokes the bluegrass flavor of Loveless as well as her Nineties radio hits. The production is lean, highlighting Pearce’s impassioned delivery and some Appalachian sounds of Dobro. Like Loveless, Pearce is a Kentucky native.

Since Americana became an official radio format in 1995, myriad male artists have been proclaimed the godfather of the roots-based genre. But few deserve the title more than Jim Lauderdale, who, having released more than 30 albums over the past three decades, has worked in all of the elements that help define Americana: country, folk, bluegrass, blues, gospel, and rock.

By the late 1970s, a lengthy battle with drugs and alcohol had earned country music legend George Jones the pejorative nickname “No Show Jones,” as his concert and public appearances became more erratic and unpredictable. But on February 17th, 1998, with those struggles mostly behind him, the singer debuted his own music/talk show on Tnn, the Nashville Network, welcoming longtime friends and rising country stars of the era in a relaxed and informal setting.

You know it’s a jam-packed episode of The Voice when there’s not even enough time to remind us yet again of each contestant’s heart-tugging backstory. And such was the rare case with Monday’s first of three consecutive nights of (hurrah, again) Live Playoffs. Not only did all 24 of the remaining contestants perform, but by the tail end of the two hours, our real-time votes had been tabulated, and the most popular singer from each team was given the good news that they’d be advancing to the Top 12. How did my previously-revealed picks fare? So far,...

The Voice coach Blake Shelton has always been wildly supportive of the artists on his team, but he puts Danielle Bradbery in another category after her big victory on the season 4 finale Tuesday night. "I think it's the most important win we have had so far on The Voice because Danielle is the first winner of The Voice that had no professional experience in the past," he told People Tuesday, after she beat out her teammates, the Swon Brothers, and Usher's singer, Michelle Chamuel. Well, "Voice" fans, this is it --the week we've been waiting for. Our Top 3 are prepping to take the stage and sing for America's votes one final time. With Season 4 down to just Danielle Bradbery, Michelle Chamuel and The Swon Brothers, will coach Blake Shelton have a threepeat or might newbie coach Usher take the title? As fellow coaches Adam Levine and Shakira watch on, it's in America's hands. Who will earn the crown? Let's get started.
Before the fun can begin, it's time for the obligatory look back at everyone's road to the finals. Interesting fact: Each artist in the Top 3 had three out of four coaches turn for them during the blind auditions.
Kicking things off, musically, our Season 4 coaches are treating us to a group performance of The Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends." It's a fun treat for fans, but the numbers seems to be a little under-rehearsed,...

Will the winner of this season's The Voice be a little bit country? Or whole lot indie rock?
The three remaining acts on the singing competition made it tough for voters on Monday, each turning out distinctive performances on the show's energetic live final competition, which saw coaches Blake Shelton and Usher take heartfelt meetings with the artists and their families.
Predictions for the winner came directly from the judges themselves, with Adam Levine who quickly called it for Texas teen Danielle Bradbery, the show's youngest competitor. At just 16, she covered hits by a host of Nashville's powerhouse female singers including Patty Loveless,...

The battle lines have all been drawn and the fandoms have been essentially locked in for several weeks now on Season 4 of The Voice. So the question entering tonight’s Live Finals was this: Would (or could) any voters be swayed to switch allegiance?
The question exiting it, though, was quite different: Why did one of the three competing acts get a hefty advantage by scoring two out of the last three solo performance slots on the telecast? (Spoiler alert: It wasn’t The Swon Brothers or a member of Team Usher.)
Look, I know Danielle Bradbery is as easy...

To end the star-studded tribute to the late, great country music singer George Jones, Alan Jackson performed Jones' 1980 hit "He Stopped Loving Her Today," which is widely considered one of the best (if not the best) country songs of all time.
Jackson gave an emotional performance -- you could hear the tears in his voice at times, causing him to go out of tune a little bit, which really just made it all the better. Above is the video of the night Jones died, when Jackson performed the song at a concert as a tribute.
We'll post video from the funeral just as soon as we have it. For now, check out another great performance from the funeral -- Vince Gill and Patty Loveless on "Go Rest High On That Mountain."
And below, Keith Urban posted a video to YouTube with a short rendition of "He Stopped Loving Her Today" as tribute to Jones.
