She married Colm O'Kelly, a stage manager and actor. Not long afterward, the company went to Egypt on tour. O'Kelly went swimming in the Nile, contracted polio, and died. They had been married less than a year. Manahan never remarried.

nomination was 29 years earlier, in 1969, in the equivalent category of
Best Supporting or Featured Actress (Dramatic) for Brian Friel's
