After two years of virtual festivals, Sundance is overdue for a comeback. The Park City event is set to return to Park City on January 19 and continue through January 29. While films will still be available to online ticket holders starting January 24, the main emphasis will be the in-person experience that put Sundance on the map in the first place.
While the pandemic disrupted the film industry in 2020, Sundance managed to take place that year just before the shutdowns, launching future Best Picture winner “Coda” into an unpredictable landscape. Now, the market and culture of moviegoing remains in flux, and Sundance is poised to return to the scene just in time to launch a wide array of movies into that ever-changing climate.
And there are a lot of movies in contention. After countless productions were put on hold at the start of the pandemic, they’ve been revving back to action over the past year,...

Pete Mroz and Blake Shelton have been buddies ever since they were young up-and-comers, but that friendship didn’t help Pete when it came to getting Blake’s save in the first live results show of “The Voice” Season 20. After America voted to advance Cam Anthony to the next round, the country coach shockingly saved Jordan Matthew Young instead of Pete. That meant Pete, who had higher votes than teammate Anna Grace, got one last chance to sing for his life via the wild card instant save; he lost to Corey Ward.
Of the eight artists who were eliminated during Tuesday’s episode, which one do viewers think was most robbed of a spot in the Top 9? Pete tops our recent poll with a whopping 48%, while Anna comes in second place at 20%. Here are the complete poll results:
48% — Pete Mroz (Team Blake Shelton)

And then there were nine. During Tuesday’s bloodbath results show on “The Voice,” a whopping eight artists went home based on America’s votes, leaving only the Top 9 still in the competition. The eight eliminated singers were: Zae Romeo of Team Kelly Clarkson, Zania Alake and Ryleigh Modig of Team John Legend, Andrew Marshall, Devan Blake Jones and Jose Figueroa Jr. of Team Nick Jonas and Anna Grace and Pete Mroz of Team Blake Shelton. Of these unlucky artists, who do you think was most robbed? Vote in our “The Voice” poll below.

After The Voice’s Season 20 Live Playoffs teed up a night of straaange song selections, it looked like the eight singers who’d be headed home would be: Team Nick’s Four-Way Knockout winner Devan Blake Jones, Team Nick’s Andrew Marshall, Team Nick’s Jose Figeuroa Jr.…

Team Nick Jonas got a big boost on Monday night’s episode of “The Voice” when viewers voted that Devan Blake Jones was the winner of the 4-way knockout. Two weeks ago, Devan competed against Savanna Woods of Team Kelly Clarkson, Carolina Rial of Team John Legend and Emma Caroline of Team Blake Shelton for the first official fan vote of Season 20. These four at-risk artists have been waiting on pins and needles for the results, which were finally revealed at the top of the inaugural live show. Devan now joins the other Top 17 contestants (see below) who are singing live for America’s vote.

Devan, a 35-year-old soul singer from Denver, Colorado, originally auditioned with the song “Hard Place.” He was a one-chair-turn for Team Nick in the blind auditions, but something tells us the other judges are now regretting not turning their chairs around for him.

Vuulr, a digital marketplace for rights to filmed content, has tapped two entertainment industry veterans to expand its presence in mainstream Hollywood.
Former Vudu content head Daniel Gagliardi has joined as senior vice president of development and strategy. Andrew Marshall, who has worked at Disney and NBCUniversal to name a few, joins as head of legal and business affairs. Both will be dedicated to the Americas.
“Great tech on its own is not enough, its needs to be wrapped with great support from industry experts who fully understand the challenges our buyers and sellers face in their business today,” said Ian McKee, Vuulr’s global CEO. “I’m really excited to have Daniel and Andrew onboard as we scale the business.”
Gagliardi will bring his experience as both a buyer and seller to strengthen Vuulr’s position as a rights broker.

With the blind auditions in the rear-view mirror, it was time for the next stage of “The Voice” competition to begin on Monday night. That’s right — it’s the battles! During this round, the four coaches pair up their artists for showstopping duets and then determine who stays and who goes. They can also hit their “save” or “steal” buttons if they want to keep a losing artist in the competition. Oh, and because Kelly was feeling “under the weather,” special guest judge Kelsea Ballerini was invited to temporarily replace her on the judging panel.

Refresh for updates Disney’s’ CinemaCon session kicked off with compilation sizzle of Disney and Fox films including X-Men, Dark Phoenix, Bohemian Rhapsody, Zootopia, Avengers: Endgame, extolling the library fruits of its recent merger.
There was one moment which was a wink at the audience: Wolverine asked in some X-Men footage, “What is this place?” which then cut to a shot of Black Panther, as if he was asking the King of Wakanda for the answer.
“I’ve put some sizzle reels together in my time, but that one blows my mind, I’m still just getting my mind around this,” said Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn on the top of Disney’s CinemaCon session which didn’t feature any stars or directors onstage, just Disney-Fox suits. The session was ended with the first 17 minutes of Toy Story 4.

To celebrate the imminent release of Roman Polanski’s latest (and possibly last) film, The Ghost, I’ve put together a top ten list of political figures who have been portrayed in cinema by some of our finest actors. Whether they are contemporary, historical or in some cases, made up, politicians have run the whole gamut of film genres. They have been cast as heroes, villains, clowns and tragic figures with Shakespearean-like downfalls.
The corridors of power echo with intrigue, corruption and calamity. The list presents both real and imagined political characters to highlight their dexterity as cinematic figures and also to stop it from being completely boring.
Please feel free to comment and add your own suggestions.
