On April 22, 2017, Loretta Lynn took the stage at the Tarrytown Music Hall, a small theater outside New York City. Lynn, who died on Tuesday at the age of 90, had celebrated her 85th birthday a week earlier with a triumphant two-night run at the Ryman Auditorium, but this was a low-profile gig — just Lynn and her band playing to 800 or so fans.
That made no difference to Lynn. With help from her daughter Patsy Lynn Russell, sisters Crystal Gale and Peggy Sue, and her six-piece backing band, Lynn delivered an electrifying 90-minute set.

Jerry Allison, the groundbreaking early rock & roll and rockabilly drummer who, as a member of The Crickets with Buddy Holly, co-wrote landmark songs such as “Peggy Sue” and “That’ll Be the Day,” has died. He was 82.
According to a post on the Buddy Holly Facebook page, “Ji was a musician ahead of his time, and undoubtedly his energy, ideas and exceptional skill contributed to both The Crickets, and rock n’ roll itself, becoming such a success.”
Allison, one critic wrote, “knew how to get an incredible variety of percussion sounds, given the limitations of equipment in the era, sometimes working with as little as one snare, a cymbal, and a bass drum (if that).”
His work on “Peggy Sue,” for instance, involves the use of a paradiddle, a drumming rudiment that combines single strokes with precisely placed double strokes. He also contributed the title; “Peggy Sue” was originally titled “Cindy Lou,...

In January of 1962, in Atlanta, Georgia, Rebecca “Van” Pierce and Charles Henry Wilkerson had a baby that we would later know as Luna Vachon. Adopted by Paul “Butcher” Vachon in 1966, when he married Pierce, she was raised by “Butcher” from then on out, becoming a part of the infamous and legendary Vachon wrestling family. Niece to Maurice “Mad Dog” Vachon and Vivian Vachon, Luna would be born into something truly unique and special, and it would change her life, though back when she was Gertrude Elizabeth Vachon at just four years old, she wouldn’t know it yet.
It wasn’t long, though, before Gertrude decided she wanted to continue the legacy of her family and journey into professional wrestling. There was the inevitable push-back from her protective family initially, as is often the case. Pro-wrestling was a harsh world, full of hardship, injury, drama and potential for harm, but...

It’s that time of year again. Wrestlemania is soon upon us. This event has become the most important event in professional wrestling, showcasing the best of the best of the sport putting on the show of their lives. With Wrestlemania appearing this Sunday on the WWE Network, I thought I’d take the time to discuss my ten favorite Wrestlemania matches, matches that to me epitomize everything that is great about the event. Like any list, it is purely subjective so if you disagree with anything or feel I left something out, let’s discuss it in the comments below.
Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant- Wrestlemania 3
“The irresistible force meeting the immovable object!”
Without Wrestlemania 3, it’s possible that Wrestlemania could have gone the way of Starrcade. The first two Wrestlemania’s, while star studded and showing some glimpses of what the event eventually became, were more events of their time.

We Want Lana! (clap clap, clap clap clap)
This could have laid claim to be the most popular chant of early 2015. Rusev was flying high as the monster heel in WWE and the Ravishing Russian was over, not only because of her looks, but because of her promos and gimmick to boot. Heading into WrestleMania 31 it looked like nothing could stop the pair.
Lana was cut from a different cloth in pre-Divas Revolution WWE. Instead of everything being geared towards her undeniably pretty looks, she was a strong and confident women who didn’t take any sh*t from anyone. Not since the days of Sherri Martel had Vince McMahon got behind a female performer in this way. Yes Vickie Guerrero was fantastic in her heel authority figure role, but even she wasn’t immune from insults about her looks and the like from time to time.

A new TV spot has been released for WWE 2K16 which puts the spotlight on a number of fan-favourite WWE Superstars meeting around a campfire to confront their demons. That includes Stone Cold Steve Austin looking back on his battles with Mankind, while current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins reflects on his lucky escape earlier this year from Brock Lesnar.
In other WWE 2K16 news, it has been revealed today that the managers set to be included in the game are Paul Heyman, Paul Bearer, Bobby Heenan, Brad Maddox, Lana, Rosa Mendes, Gerry Brisco, Jimmy Hart, Col. Robert Parker, Pat Patterson, Sherri Martel, Mr. McMahon, Corporate Stephanie McMahon, Miss Elizabeth, Ted Dibiase and Zeb Colter. That’s a very diverse and interesting selection, and there’s not really anyone who has been forgotten about.

“The most iconic promo man in professional wrestling history.” There’s very few wrestlers who can fill the shoes required by that description, and Randy Savage, the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame for 2015, is certainly on that list.
Much more than twirling a finger and screaming “Oooh Yeah!,” Savage’s promos were at times baffling, oftentimes intense, sometimes uniquely verbose, and at yet other moments completely gripping and able to sell wrestling fans everywhere on the absolute necessity of watching Randy Savage wrestle anyone, anytime, anywhere. Quite possibly not just one of a few on wrestling’s most iconic promo man list, maybe Savage is actually at the top of the heap.
Savage’s best work as a talker in pro wrestling may have actually come when he was not in the then-wwf, but rather when he was wrestling in Memphis for his father Angelo Poffo’s Icw,...

Women have been involved in the pro wrestling business since nearly the beginning. There has been a recognized world champion for women’s processional wrestling since the 30’s. Mildred Burke won that original women’s title in 1937 before she went on to form the World Women’s Wrestling Association in the early 1950’s.
The Fabulous Moolah is one of the most decorated women’s champions where she was the Nwa World Women’s Champion; which would then transition into the WWF Women’s Championship.
In the late 80’s to early 90’s we would have females be established characters, not for wrestling, but as a valet to a top wrestler. The two main women that come to mind in this era would be Miss Elizabeth with the Macho Man Randy Savage, and Sensational Sherri Martel who would manage quite a few wrestlers, most notably Shawn Michaels during his first run...

It had long been rumored that Sting would be a part of the WWE 2K15 video game in some way, shape, or form, and now that it has been officially confirmed, it is time to begin speculating on what kind of role he will be playing.
With the WCW and Tna legend officially in the fold, there is already talk of some sort of “Sting Mode” in the game, where players will be able to relive the man’s career, playing through several of his biggest matches, in the mold of previous modes in the game’s series, like Attitude Era. If we’re going to have something like that to play though in the upcoming game, it’s only right to discuss Sting’s career and look back at ten of his matches that need to be included.
These may or may not be his ten best matches,...

Being included in World Wrestling Entertainment’s Hall of Fame is one of the greatest honors one can achieve in the world of Professional Wrestling. While the legitimacy and seriousness of induction into the Hall of Fame has been debated by many, there is no denying the magnitude of being known as a WWE Hall of Famer.
While the chances of being inducted are slim, the chances of being a female and inducted are even slimmer. While there are routinely six (or more) inductees in any given year, the Hall of Fame classes are generally male-dominated and sometimes the women are completely overlooked.
While Lita, Trish Stratus, Sunny, Johnnie Mae Young, Wendi Richter, “Sensational” Sherri Martel, and “The Fabulous” Moolah most definitely deserve recognition and acclaim for their contributions, there are plenty of women who also deserve their due.
Some should have been inducted before the likes of Sunny,...

Sorry for the lack of write-up last week, but here we are for a new results and review of this weeks’ episode of WWE Raw.
Last week’s event was held in the UK and Cena was attacked by Del Rio, Big Show attacked WWE Champion Randy Orton and slammed him through an announce table and the show ended with The Shield, The Wyatt Family, The Uso’s, Daniel Bryan and Cm Punk brawling in the ring.
Tonight’s Raw is being billed as WWE Raw Country, a themed Raw based on the fact that tonight’s show is being held in Nashville, Tennessee. Florida Georgia Line, a country band, will be playing live later apparently.
The show begins with Triple H’s music playing and The Game walking to the ring with his wifey, Stephanie McMahon. The two have smiles etched on their faces. Triple H talks about how...

Deceased controversial ex-wwe champion Chris Benoit had around ten months left to live, according to a statement made by the sister of the wife he murdered back in June 2007.
Sandra Toffoloni, the sister of Nancy ‘Woman’ Benoit, spoke for the first time since the tragic double murder suicide of six years ago in an interview with The2Count.com. According to Ms Toffoloni, doctors who examined the ex-wrestler’s body discovered that Benoit’s heart was so enlarged that he would not have lasted more than ten months before succumbing to death.
Chris Benoit, a former World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment World Champion was found hanging by the neck in the weight room of his house where he had killed himself after murdering his wife and their young son, Daniel. At first details were sketchy as to what had occurred at the Benoit home and WWE decided to...

WWE have released the trailer for Wrestling’s Greatest Rivalries: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart, a very special home video release that is coming to Blu-ray and DVD next month and of which my pre-order was placed at Silvervision long ago. You see I grew up as a huge wrestling fan who lived through the whole of the Hart vs. Michaels feud, whether it was their matches against each other as The Rockers and The Hart Foundation in the Tag Team division, their early 90′s program (I’ll never forget a cage match between the pair in what I’m guessing was 1993 or 1994 where I played every move and felt every hold as a screaming spectator!), the Amazing 60 minute Iron Man match they shared at Wrestlemania Xii which has now become iconic, and then their heated exchanges in the late 1997 that culminated in the most infamous wrestling match of all time – that incident in Montreal.
