Here's an odd pairing -- '80s rock stars, current TV stars and possibly you ... hooking up to protect farm animals. Any takers? The celebs are auctioning off meet-and-greets to raise funds for a NY based nonprofit called Farm Sanctuary -- and they've got quite a stable of talent. Joan Jett, Richard Marx and Mary Chapin Carpenter are on board -- along with Mayim Bialik from 'Big Bang Theory,' Emma Kenney from "Shameless" and "Downton Abbey" star Lesley Nicol.

It's a good weekend for catching up on Sundance highlights, big and small. Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" is, of course, the film on everybody's lips at the moment — and deservedly so — but that's no reason to ignore a more modest independent tale of growing up and growing out, albeit at a slightly different age. Aaron Katz and Martha Stephens' droll, laid-back comedy "Land Ho!" is the first collaboration between the two writer-directors, each one with a handful of delicately formed micro-indies behind them, and it is itself a story of an unexpected partnership: the plot centers on two drifting retirees, formerly in-laws, whose friendship is tested and deepened over the course of a spontaneous road trip through Iceland. It's the kind of premise that, on paper, could signify treacly hijinks in the vein of "The Bucket List" or "Grumpy Old Men," but Katz and Stephens' film is far subtler...

They say those that can, do; those that can’t, host.
Over the past decade, Ryan Seacrest has almost single-handedly reinvented the role of TV host by expanding his brand beyond American Idol, where he got his start in front of the camera. Of course, all of that time with a mic has only been spent introducing singers and performances — and not one of his own. That all changed last night on the two-hour finale of Idol, which drew over 10 million viewers, likely beating out the Survivor finale on CBS (after nationals are released later today). Maybe Ryan Seacrest should keep his day job(s). After months of pleading on Randy Jackson's behalf, the American Idol host sang a few bars during Wednesday's live finale. "All season I've been trying to get our star quarterback, Mr. Ryan Seacrest, to sing a little something for us," Jackson said. "And now, I've got his whole family on board with it!" The Kiis-FM radio host's parents and sister joined Jackson in the audience before he took the stage. "Randy, it took a lot of convincing to get him to agree to sing a song from his very first concert in Atlanta: Richard Marx," Ryan's mom, Connie, said. "I remember driving him to the Fox Theater." The host has often denied requests to hear him croon on the Fox reality singing competition. On Wednesday, however, he finally gave in at the season finale, where Jena Irene Asciutto and Caleb Johnson duked it out for the top prize.
During the two-hour live show – which featured performances by Kiss, Demi Lovato, Paramore and all three of the show's judges, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. – Seacrest braved the Nokia Theater stage to sing the first few lines of "Right Here Waiting" before being joined by Richard Marx on the piano.

Eric Lavallee: Name me three of your favorite “2013 discoveries”…
Aaron Katz: Calvados (apple brandy from Normandy), Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar (a great new board game), Rattlesnakes (a 1984 album by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions), and, as this is a baseball inspired idea, I’ll add Matt Harvey as a fourth pick.
Lavallee: You’ve co-directed a project before so that was not foreign to you. I was wondering how you and Martha agreed to come together on Land Ho! and what was the working process like during the writing phase?
Katz: Because we were viewing the project as somewhat of an experiment, and we agreed right off the bat about what the parameters should be, the collaboration was very smooth. In the writing process we passed things back and forth. At first a collection of ideas and pictures and then, after visiting Iceland to scout, Martha wrote an outline of everything.

Ranked: Summer Songs From Worst To Best Fifty years of roadtrippy, picnic-y, beachy nostalgia. By Nick Keppler Every summer there emerges a song that marks the season. As summer of 2013 comes to a close, we’ve gone back to the Billboard charts of the last 50 years, found the song that stayed at number one for the longest span of June, July and August and ranked them all (picking whichever one had the greatest accumulation of sales when there was a tie for the year). 50. Richard Marx - “Right Here Waiting” (1989) This stinker of a piano ballad is about as flimsy, ridiculous and poofed up as Marx’s hair. 49. Katy Perry - “I Kissed a Girl” (2008) I hate this song. I hate the clumsy electro-rock melody. I hate the strained, breathy vocals. I hate the way this airhead treats a small act of affection shared by millions of lesbian couples [...]...

The moment we heard that Jack Black was this year’s honoree at the infamous Friars Club roast, we expected a good show. What we didn’t expect was that Al Roker and Bob Saget would become the target of more jokes than Black himself.
During Friday’s roast at the midtown Hilton in New York City, roastmaster Bob Saget kicked off the evening, which would end up targeting Jack’s guests even more so than Jack. And while most of the insults were funny, there were a few topics that got old fast. Yes, Al Roker pooped his pants.

Nashville, Tenn. — The criticism of Dr. Drew Pinsky spread on the Internet almost as quickly as news of Mindy McCready's death.
The country singer with the tumultuous personal life became the fifth cast member of his "Celebrity Rehab" series to die since appearing on the show and the third from Season 3. The previous deaths stirred up rumors of a curse and a debate about the show's helpfulness. McCready's apparent suicide upped the pitch of the reaction, however.
Singer Richard Marx on Twitter compared Pinsky to Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the so-called suicide doctor: "Same results."
Marx backed off later Monday, saying the crack went too far. But he restated his thoughts in a way that summed up much of the reaction in the first 24 hours since the 37-year-old McCready's death Sunday afternoon in Heber Springs, Ark.
"It is, however, my opinion that what Dr. D does is exploitation and his...

What, you're surprised? The holiday season arrived tonight on Up All Night. "First Snow" showed just how taxing the time of giving can be, as Reagan and Chris struggled to create a worthwhile Christmas card.
Despite having yet to utter a single line, Amy took center stage when the focus switched from her parents to their adorable daughter. I'm going to guess it was the Chris in her that inspired the key hiding... or perhaps her Auntie Ava has rubbed off on her.

Richard Marx's “Hold On to the Night” topped the Billboard charts, Cindy Crawford covered Playboy, “Coming to America” held the No. 1 spot at the box office, Michael Dukakis was the Democratic presidential candidate, and the first episode of Shark Week ran on national TV. Today, only the latter enjoys the same cultural relevance it did back in 1988.
Twenty-five years and 143 programs later, the Discovery Channel series is kicking off its silver anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 12, and celebrating its reign as cable's longest-running programming.

The drama that showed its face this week on American Idol unfortunately did not make this week’s performances anymore exciting to watch. There were a few standouts this week while the majority of the contestants failed to deliver more than their usual goods as they took on songs from the years they were born. More singers were thrown out of their comfort zones and the end result wasn’t impressive. With one contestant disqualified and one being eliminated tonight, there’s plenty of opportunity for anyone to get the cut.
Contestant, Jermaine Jones did not lay out all of his dirty laundry on the table during auditions and those skeletons came to haunt him this week. Within a minute of seeing Ryan Seacrest emerge from a dust cloud and say "This [long pause] is 'American Idol,'" I remember why I haven't been able to stomach this show for quite sometime. Seacrest doesn't hesitate to bring up the Jermaine Jones drama, though I have a sneaking suspicion we won't actually find out what went down until the last two minutes of these next two hours.
However, in an attempt to see the glass half full, I'm harping on the fact that tonight is "Year You Were Born Night," which means two things. 1) Adorable baby pictures and 2) Songs from my youth since these contestants are all fetuses.

Wednesday night might go down in history as the most awkward night in "American Idol" lore. Forget for a minute that producers called out gentle giant Jermaine "Four Warrant" Jones on TV for lying to them about his criminal past. It was also the night that viewers may have realized that their top 11 either have the worst taste in music of anyone on the planet or are the very last people you would ever want to share a playlist with.
Usually it's a disco or Dolly Parton night that's the great equalizer during "Idol" theme nights. But on an evening when all they had to do was pick a song from the year they were born, most of your American idols fell flatter than a Heejun Han high note,...

Last week, the American Idol contestants paid tribute to Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder. This week, they're dazzling us with music from the years they were born. I suddenly understand why my favorites in this competition are my favorites. Two of these contestants were born in 1994 and two of these contestants were born in 1995. Which makes me almost old enough to be their mother. Ouch, Idol. My favorites don't make me feel so old.
Ryan leads with the teaser that one of the contestants will be going home tonight instead of tomorrow night. Producers aren't attempting to spin the reason for Jermaine Jones' ouster into something positive, which is refreshing. Ryan says we'll learn more about that later.

Ryan Seacrest kicks off the "American Idol" Top 11 by talking about Jermaine Jones' removal from the competition. We've got the full details about that over here.
This week the theme is year they were born, which is one of our favorite themes. Probably because we like the music of the 1980s so much (though, as J.Lo cringed about, some are getting so darn young they were born, like, yesterday).
1. Phillip Phillips, 1990, "Hard to Handle," Black Crowes
How sweet is his crying dad, talking about his health problems as a baby? Oh my goodness. And then he has to have surgery for his kidney stones? Yikes.
Even if he doesn't sound good, he'll be fine. Phillip has to be one of the most popular contestants, so I'm not worried he's in danger. Which is good 'cause I like him. Also, spectacular song choice for his voice. It's a little...

At this point in the season, American Idol should be a celebration of the top talent that has survived weeks of auditions, judges' critiques, eliminations and grueling rehearsals. But Wednesday's episode had dark cloud hanging over it. Caution: spoilers ahead! Following news that broke earlier in the day that contestant Jermaine Jones was booted off the show, Ryan Seacrest introduced the live performance episode by addressing his absence. But instead of ripping it off like a Band-Aid - this is a ratings game, after all - producers waited a whole hour to finally get to the details of his removal.

Los Angeles (AP) -- Jermaine Jones was dismissed from "American Idol" -- and not because of viewer votes. It was revealed during Wednesday's installment of the Fox singing contest that the 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., was disqualified Tuesday for not revealing that he had outstanding arrest warrants back home in New Jersey."Idol" executive producers Ken Warwick and Nigel Lythgoe confronted Jones about the issue in a taped segment."You were incumbent to tell us the truth about all of this, and you haven't on any level," Warick told Jones. The so-called "gentle giant," as he was dubbed by host Ryan Seacrest, was one of the viewer-selected top 13 finalists after the judges gave him a last-minute spot in the 11th season's group of male semifinalists. He was among the bottom three vote-getters last week after performing Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet" but advanced to the top 12 singers.

I sure hope everyone enjoyed “Oldies That Happened to Be Covered in the Year the Season 11 Finalists Were Born” Night on American Idol! Yes indeed, more than half of this week’s selected songs made their way into the world long before the finalists who covered ‘em.
But who’s counting? Not Uncle Nigel! Then again, in our executive producer’s defense, he was tied up with the process of disqualifying Jermaine Jones from the competition for not disclosing that there were (allegedly) four active warrants out for his arrest. One contestant rose, another fell, and one was outright eliminated from the competition on Wednesday's (March 14) "American Idol."
Joshua Ledet stole the show, turning in a show-stopping performance of "When a Man Loves a Woman" that Jennifer Lopez called "the best thing I have ever seen on 'American Idol.'" Ledet, who whipped off his jacket during the performance, earned a standing ovation from the judges halfway through the song. "You gave it up so big, God came through your eyes," said Steven Tyler, in a rare soundbite that did not contain the word "beautiful," while Randy Jackson called it "incredible on every level."

Rating: PG-13
Release Date: February 24, 2012
Plot: A successful CEO named Wesley Deeds (Perry) reaches out to a single mother (Newton) who works as a janitor in his building.
Who’S It For? As many of his films are, this is for Tyler Perry devotees only. Acceptance of his previous trash is required so as not to laugh at his recent misfire. Outsiders to Perry will be snickering to themselves throughout the entirety of Good Deeds.
Overall
Tyler Perry is a terrible actor, a terrible director, and a terrible writer. Of course this isn’t breaking news, but it’s a statement bound to bounce around anyone’s head while trying to suffer through his very bad Good Deeds. Nashville, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Country singer Keith Urban says that during the three weeks he was ordered not to speak late last year after vocal surgery, he learned a few valuable lessons about communication including this: sometimes people talk too much.
"I was amazed at how much noise there is on television and in conversations," Urban told Reuters on Wednesday. "It's rubbish. We could strip away so much ... be more succinct ... and still make our point.
"I realized I'm as guilty as anybody. I learned that when you have to write stuff down you get real particular as to how and what you want to say."
The singer underwent surgery in November to remove polyps from a vocal chord, causing his doctor put him on vocal rest for three weeks and bar him from singing until February.

Christmas tunes are a way for undisclosed Britney Spears fans to listen to their guilty pleasure music with reason. No one can deny liking Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, but you might want to keep enjoying the “Glitter” soundtrack to yourselves. Get it? Christmas music allows you to press play on those cheesy tunes in public. The latest artist to embrace the holiday spirit is the legendary songwriter and musician Richard Marx. Since his string of top five hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he has written and recorded hit after hit with artists like Josh Groban, N’Sync, Lifehouse and more, winning a Grammy...

It’s been a long seven years since Hugh Jackman shook his groove thing so expertly on the Great White Way in The Boy From Oz. Sure, since then we’ve had Cheyenne Jackson and Matthew Morrison grace the Broadway stage, but can anyone kick it as well as Hugh? More specifically, can any Hollywood A-lister sing and dance like he does? (And I’m counting you, John Travolta and Will Smith.) So thank God for Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway, his newly-announced limited-run NYC one-man show, which starts previews on Oct. 25 (with an official opening planed for Nov.

Joey Lawrence, currently of 'Melissa & Joey,' has grown up on TV, acting and singing since he was five-years-old. That's a lot of time to make some bad fashion choices, and a lot of footage to enter into evidence. Which is exactly what happened Wednesday on 'The Talk' (weekdays, syndicated on CBS), when the ladies showed Lawrence a retrospective of his hairstyles over the years.
It started with the "bowl cut" look from 'Gimme a Break.' "I actually ran into Dorothy Hamill and I told her that I loved it," said Lawrence. "She gave me the bowl, and I used it, and my mom cut my hair." There was also the curly semi-mullet from 'Blossom' and his shaven head from 'Dancing With the Stars,' which Lawrence said came from his being a fan of Richard Marx and Mr. Clean,...

Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in Tom Hooper’s cinematic adaptation of the musical Les Misérables, the actor’s rep says, confirming a Variety report. Jackman’s schedule opened up after director Darren Aronofsky stepped away from The Wolverine, and making Les Mis would finally bridge his two worlds. Though he’s won a Tony (for The Boy From Oz) and hosted the award ceremony multiple times, his movies, like the X-Men franchise and Van Helsing, have tended to be grittier action fare. If you don’t count the animated Happy Feet, Les Miserables would be his first movie musical.

Lucky members of the comics community who made it out to early screenings of "Thor" continued to tweet about it this morning. Cameos were the popular topic of the day, though artist Paul Azaceta voiced one major complaint.

Kelly Clarkson has recorded a joint track with fellow "American Idol" alum Chris Daughtry, it was confirmed. Pop/rock singer/songwriter Richard Marx revealed the duet during a recent interview with 95.5 Plj.
Richard said the song is titled "One More Yesterday" and he has songwriting credit on it. "I've heard the rough mix of it, and the singing can't be beat, between the two of them," the 47-year-old musician further spilled the beans about the project.
Back in 2008, Kelly and Chris were rumored to record a duet. However, a source claimed the plan was scrapped because the label was not satisfied with the result. The two singers then tried to hook up in other songs that might have worked, but they reportedly were forced to cancel it as well.
This new duet reportedly will be included in Kelly's upcoming studio album. The rumor arose since Kelly herself has stated publicly...
