When ABC’s “The View” premiered in the summer of 1997, it was introduced by creator Barbara Walters as a talk show focused on “women of different generations, backgrounds, and views.” To that end, the meticulously curated inaugural panel of hosts consisted of five loquacious ladies (aged 22-67) who brought an abundance of life experience to the table. Over 27 seasons, the ever-popular show has gone through 24 full-time hosts whose tenures have lasted an average of five years. Scroll through our chronological photo gallery to learn more about the fascinating careers of these lively presenters.

The View creator Barbara Walters struck fear in Debbie Matenopoulos when she was one of the co-hosts at the iconic table. Matenopoulos was nervous to sit next to Walters at the table, but also grateful to have worked for her. In a recent interview, Matenopoulos recalled how Walters would quietly “church pinch” her under the table every time she slipped up on camera.
The experience was so stress-inducing that she was relieved when she earned a new seat, away from Walters, at the table. Matenopoulos also revealed how one of the scariest on-camera experiences became a valuable learning moment in her career, thanks to Walters.

The View producers knew that Walters was pinching Matenopoulos nonstop under the table.
So, “They moved me because they were like, she can’t sit here and get the church pinched by Barbara all the time.

Legendary journalist Barbara Walters came up with a novel idea in the late 1990s: to create a talk show consisting of a panel of different women from different backgrounds to discuss the stories of the day. It eventually became The View, which launched on ABC in August 1997. But although she was the mastermind behind The View‘s creation, Walters was reportedly unceremoniously showed the door, just as several co-hosts have experienced over the years.

Clearing the air. Rosie O’Donnell is opening up about the real reason she wasn’t in attendance at “The View”‘s emotional tribute to Barbara Walters on Tuesday.
While O’Donnell’s reps previously told some outlets that her absence was due to a scheduling conflict, O’Donnell took to Instagram to explain that there was also a more personal reason she wasn’t able to be there.
“They invited me but I wasn’t able to make it,” O’Donnell said in a video she shared Tuesday evening. “And I didn’t want to be in a big group of people.”
“I don’t know, I was worried I would get upset and I didn’t want to do that. So, there you go,” she added.

A parade of View veterans — including current and onetime Og table mates Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones and Debbie Matenopoulos — paid their respects to the series’ late creator, Barbara Walters, during Tuesday’s special episode. Conspicuously missing from the hour-long tribute: former co-cost Rosie O’Donnell.
According to O’Donnell’s spokesperson, the actress-comedian was invited to take part in Tuesday’s retrospective. However, “She is on a plane and couldn’t change her schedule,” the rep explained. A View spokesperson confirms that an invitation was indeed extended to O’Donnell.

The View‘s original co-hosts Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos and Joy Behar were among those paying tribute today to the late TV groundbreaker and icon Barbara Walters, as the show’s current panel was joined, either live or by remote, by a succession of former panelists.
“She is the reason we’re all sitting here today,” said current moderator Whoopi Goldberg at the top of today’s episode, adding that the pioneering Walters was respected by the TV industry in part because “she did not allow them to not respect her.”
“We knew her better than anyone I think,” said Behar, the sole original co-host who remains with the ABC show. “She was the original role model for everybody else”
Along with the expected accolades for Walters as a TV icon, the View creator was affectionately remembered as an unrivaled behind-the-scenes teller of tales, lover of dirty jokes and holiday-time “re-gifter.

“The View” kicked off its first show of the new year by honoring the one and only Barbara Walters, who died on Friday, Dec. 30, at the age of 93, with an hour that reunited several of her former “View” co-hosts and featured highlights from her many years on the daytime series.
“Tributes are pouring in from around the world to celebrate the life of Barbara Walters,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said at the top of the ABC talk show Monday. Goldberg described “The View” creator and former co-host as “the reason why we’re all sitting here,” adding, “really, if not for her, I don’t know where most of us would be.”
Walters launched “The View” in 1997, with an original panel of Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos and comedian Joy Behar. Behar remains the only original panelist still on the show, alongside current hosts Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

On December 30, 2022, legendary journalist and interviewer Barbara Walters died at the age of 93. She changed the landscape for women in the industry, became the highest-paid TV journalist, and took her "women's interest" stories on "The Today Show" and turned it into a co-hosting position — a first for a woman. She also became the first female co-anchor of "ABC Evening News." Later on, in 1997, Walters created, produced, and served as a co-host for the ABC talk show "The View," which gave voices to women from different walks of life and different generations. Now that show will honor its founder with a dedicated special, according to a post from the Instagram account for "The View."
The post reads: "#TheView was her idea, her passion, her show. Join us Tuesday morning as we celebrate the one and only Barbara Walters." When the talk show began, the lineup was Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones,...

Barbara Walters, the legendary Emmy-award winning broadcast journalism pioneer and co-creator of “The View”, has died. She was 93 years old.
ABC News confirmed the news on Friday. No cause of death was given. Disney CEO Bob Iger tweeted that Walters died on Friday evening at her home in New York.
Throughout her more than 50-year career, Walter became a staple in broadcasting, helming the “Today” show ABC News, “20/20”, “The View”, and her annual “Most Fascinating People” special, while simultaneously paving the way for other female journalists.
Making a name in an industry dominated by men became an unspoken routine for Walters who began working for “20/20” in 1978. Joining the news magazine reunited Walters with her former “Today” co-host, Hugh Downs, and solidified what became her legacy.

The world of holiday programming continues to grow. While Hallmark Channel and Lifetime have seen major success with their “Countdown to Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” slates, respectively, Great American Family joined the discussion in 2021.
In June 2021, the network, originally tilted Great American Country (Gac), was acquired by Gac Media, a group formed by former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott and Hicks Equity Partners. In the fall of that year, the network was relaunched as Gac Family.
Under Gac Media, Great American Country changed to “Gac Family” and later to “Great American Family” — the title they have gone by since August 2022. The channel became similar in content to what Abbott had created at Hallmark, including original made-for-tv movies, holiday programming and big franchises. However, it also focuses more heavily on faith-driven programming.

Exclusive: Lori Loughlin is returning to acting. The former When Calls the Heart star will reprise her popular character from the Hallmark Channel series, Abigail Stanton, on spinoff When Hope Calls, which is coming back for a second season on a new network, Gac Family. Loughlin will appear in the two-part Season 2 premiere titled When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, slated to air on Saturday, Dec. 18.
Loughlin was last seen on TV as Abigail in Season 6 of Hallmark Channel’s hit series When Calls the Heart before she was let go over her involvement in the college admissions scandal. The actress, who is on probation after serving a two-month sentence, sparked speculation that she may be returning to work last week following a Mercury News report that she had been given permission by a Boston federal judge to travel to Canada for about a week in late September-early October for “a filming production project.

MTV Studios has lined up “Celebrity Deathmatch” as its latest series revival.
Series creator Eric Fogel will return to executive produce, with Ice Cube set to executive produce and star in the new take on the stop-motion animation series. Jeff Kwatinetz of Cube Vision will also executive produce with Ben Hurwitz co-executive producing. The new “Celebrity Deathmatch” will be available as a weekly series for an Svod or other network partner in 2019.
“We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV, VH1 and Cmt. “’Deathmatch’ was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring.”
“Celebrity Deathmatch” originally aired from 1998-2001 on MTV. It presented parodies of various celebrities as they engaged in brutal,...

The blast radius from allegations of sexual harassment by Home and Family creator Woody Fraser just legally expanded for Hallmark Channel owner Crown Media Family Networks in a wrongful-termination and harassment suit from a former chef on the homespun show.
Longtime food stylist and chef Shanti Hinojos asserts in an 11-claim complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on October 22 that she was incorrectly kicked out the door of “wholesome” Hf in December 2017 for “subpar job performance” by allies of alleged serial harasser and ex-ep Fraser. To put in context, this follows a wrongful termination suit against Crown Media and others by ex-hf co-host Mark Steines last month over his firing earlier this year for what the ex-Entertainment Tonight frontman says was sticking up for women on the show who had alleged harassment by Fraser.
“The years of sexual harassment by Defendants Fraser and Fraser Productions created a hostile,...
