Filmed adaptations of Shakespeare plays have been around nearly as long as the medium of film itself. The year 1900 saw adaptations of Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet, both directed by Clément Maurice and featuring sychronized sound. Since then there have been a few (hundred) adaptations of Shakespeare's plays. The newest on the list is Gnomeo and Juliet, which is just what it sounds like: Romeo and Juliet as garden gnomes. In honor of Gnomeo and Juliet, out February 11th, let's take look back at some of the more unconventional Shakespeare adaptations.
