Warner Bros. Discovery U.K. has exited its investment in start-up U.K. news network Gb News.
In a brief statement, the company said: “Following the merger between Discovery and WarnerMedia earlier this year our portfolio now includes several wholly owned news brands including CNN Worldwide, Tvn Group in Poland and Newshub in New Zealand. In light of this, and our continued evaluation of our global and local investment portfolio, we have exited our investment in Gb News and are no longer shareholders.”
“Discovery was one of the first organisations to invest in Gb News, doing so prior to the creation of Warner Bros. Discovery,” the statement continued. “Gb News has built a growing and loyal audience in its first year, bringing another voice to British news broadcasting, and we wish the management and shareholders the very best in their future endeavours.”

Gb News, the Discovery-backed channel that set out to disrupt British news, has suffered its highest-profile walk-out after launching just three months ago as its top host, Andrew Neil, confirmed he is leaving the network.
Neil went on a “summer break” in June after presenting only eight episodes of his primetime politics show. He was reportedly expected back on screens at the beginning of September.
As his absence went on, rumours grew he planned to exit the show.
“It’s official,” he tweeted on Monday evening. “I have resigned as Chairman and Lead Presenter of Gb News.”
“Our Chairman and Presenter Andrew Neil has stepped down from his roles at Gb News and will instead appear as a regular guest commentator on our shows,” tweeted a statement from the Gb News Twitter account.
“‘I am sorry to go but I have concluded it’s time to reduce my commitments,...

Discovery-backed channel Gb News will launch June 13 in the U.K. with a special program “Welcome to Gb News.”
The channel will be available on Freeview channel 236, Sky HD, Virgin Media HD, YouView channel 236 and Freesat channel 216, besides mobile and online.
Gb News is backed by Discovery and several other mostly non-British based financiers to the tune of £60 million ($82 million). The operation is led by chair Andrew Neil.
Neil helped Rupert Murdoch launch Sky TV back in the late 1980s. He was once an outspoken critic of the BBC when he edited the Murdoch-owned Sunday Times, but later became the one BBC interviewer most feared by British politicians of all stripes. His BBC show was later axed.
Neil leads the evening line-up with the prime time news and interview program “Andrew Neil,” while businesswoman and former “The Apprentice” winner Michelle Dewberry will host “Dewbs & Co” every weeknight.

Britain’s broadcast news services are world renowned for their sober, trusted impartial coverage of national and international events. Arguably, BBC News at its best epitomizes this approach. Now, two new channels, set to launch later this year, are poised to disrupt the traditional style of the incumbent news providers.
The channels plan to offer a more provocative style of news, with some fearing that they could lead to the ‘Foxification’ of U.K. TV news and re-open the wounds of Brexit, fan prejudices and, at worst, inculcate hate.
Gb News, backed by Discovery and several other mostly non-British based financiers to the tune of £60 million ($82 million), will in the words of its chairman Andrew Neil, “champion robust, balanced debate.”
The service will be available on all the main U.K. broadcast platforms including Freeview, Sky and Virgin, as well as having an online presence.

When Ronald Beavis (Iain Stuart Robertson) is found dead by his landlady, the circumstances don’t initially suggest foul play. The deceased’s heart and liver were in poor shape, as DeBryn finds out when he performs the autopsy; either of those could have been the end of the retired policeman, but something doesn’t seem quite right. Morse discovers a ticket stub for the Roxy Cinema in the dead man’s belongings, and heads there to investigate. He learns that Beavis was a movie buff, and had been enjoying a horror film season currently running at the picture house. The detective himself is no fan of a good scare,...
