The Emmys capped off its "In Memoriam" tribute with the most widely felt celebrity passing — Robin Williams's. So it made sense that the show would enlist Billy Crystal, one of his closest friends, to pay respect. Read the full tribute below:He made us laugh. Hard. Every time you saw him, on television, movies, nightclubs, arenas, hospitals, homeless shelters, for our troops overseas, and even in a dying girl's living room for her last wish. He made us laugh, big time. I spent many happy hours with Robin onstage. I mean, the brilliance was astounding, the relentless energy was kind of thrilling. I used to think that if I could just put a saddle on him and stay on for eight seconds, I was going to do okay. Robin, Whoopi, and I were once in Shea Stadium, in the broadcast booth with the great Tim McCarver. It was comic-relief day...

In a social media twist on "Et phone home," citizens of Earth are invited to participate in a global Twitter event to send a message replying to an unexplained signal from deep space observed by scientists 35 years ago.
Coinciding with tonight's premiere of the National Geographic Channel's new series, "Chasing UFOs," you can create your own tweet that will be combined with others from around the world and they'll all be transmitted into space back to the area where the original signal came from.
The 'Chasing UFOs' team promotes the Wow! Signal Reply.
On Aug. 15, 1977, as part of the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence, or Seti, Ohio State University's Big Ear radio observatory detected a strong 72-second radio signal from the direction of the Sagittarius constellation, shown below. When astronomer Jerry Ehman noticed the unusual spike -- consisting of six letters and numbers -- on the computer printout, he wrote the word "Wow!

Great news for those who find Gregory House to be funnier and more entertaining than Tim McCarver:
Following the conclusion of the World Series, this Fox hit returns next Monday with the episode "Office Politics." It will center around the debut of Amber Tamblyn, as that actress takes on the role of genius medical school student Martha Masters.
After all, as explained below, Cuddy is sick of the sausage fest that is House's team and is taking a pro-active step to counter it. Enjoy the following pair of clips and return to TV Fanatic after this episode airs for a detailed review:

Throughout the 2010 World Cup, there was one aspect of watching the games that even my most pointlessly-ardent anti-soccer friends and my suddenly-fakely-pro-soccer friends could easily agree upon: The British announcers make Everything Better. The Espn and ABC broadcasts were divvied up between a contingent of veteran British soccer commentators, most prominently Martin Tyler and Ian Darke (and a handful of others), whose whimsical, super-British phrasings of play-by-play calls and complete unselfconsciousness about blasting players and officials for screwing up just never stopped being extra-entertaining to those of us conditioned by overly-diplomatic, cliché-ridden North American play-by-play commentators. Below is a highly informal list of my 10 Favorite Super-British Calls during the World Cup — I watched most of the games while working, so the list is hardly complete, and I don’t recall exactly which announcer made which call, but my only reason for doing this list is to convey a general sense...

Spring training games are underway, and that means that baseball video games are also back in our gaming systems. I absolutely love America's pastime, and yet throughout my video game playing life I have never enjoyed a baseball video game. The balance just never seems to be right: Either it's too realistic (and thus sort of boring) or has too much of an arcade feel (and then doesn't authentic). "Major League Baseball 2K10" has some high points, but it won't convert anybody who hasn't played a bat-and-ball game since "Rbi Baseball."
The Basics
As they said in "Bull Durham," "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball." "2K10" is basically that, plus some augmented pitching controls, a stylish presentation and a home run derby.

I am Canadian, God help me, and so I have something to say about curling. Specifically, I have something to say about NBC’s Colleen Jones, the women’s curling analyst, who is absolutely ruining the essence of the sport with her nasty, critical comments about the young players on the sheet before her. She should know better. After all, she’s Canadian, too. Curling is not football. It is not basketball. There is no chest-thumping or spiking. There is no room for a Terry Bradshaw or a Bobby Knight or a Dick Vitale. If Tim McCarver ever tried it Canadians would run his mouth out of the Great White North on a rail. Thus, there is no room for Colleen Jones. When curlers make a bad throw, or when they try to implement the wrong strategy, the proper reaction (and by proper I mean the way Canadians have done...

For baseball fans, The Official Major League Baseball World Series Film Collection, out on Nov. 10, is the Holy Grail, the mother lode, a grand slam of a DVD collection. Remove the wrapping, tilt the package cover, and out comes a monster of a book that starts with a forward by Bob Costas and is followed by overviews of World Series from 1903 to 2008. The pages grow thicker starting with 1947, as the first of 20 DVDs are fitted into the set. And what's on those DVDs? Fifty-plus hours of footage capturing memorable moments from the annual fall classic. It's all there: Willie Mays' legendary grab called "The Catch," Jackie Robinson swiping home in 1955, Don Larsen's perfect game in 1956, the Miracle Mets of 1969, Reggie Jackson emerging as Mr. October in 1977, the Mets capitalizing on Bill Buckner's infamous error in 1986, Kirk Gibson playing the limping hero in 1988, the Yankees winning it all in 1996, 1998, 1999 and in the 2000 Subway Series,...

When Pedro Martinez takes the mound to start tonight's Game 2 of the World Series for the Phillies, Joe Buck, Tim McCarver and many other observers will probably take the narrow view. They'll focus on Pedro's history of baiting Yankee fans, of Yankee fans' own chants of "Who's Your Daddy," and of Pedro's mixed track record at Yankee Stadium. If we're lucky, they might briefly mention his resurrection as a pitcher this season, from out of baseball to starting on the world's biggest stage in a span of just a few months. This is not the Pedro I Know. The Pedro I Know made his first impression in 1993. The smaller, skinnier brother of already rail-thin older brother Ramon, 1993 Pedro did a pretty good impression of 1996 Mariano Rivera: 107 IP (almost entirely in relief), 119 K, just 76 H and...

Fox's telecast of the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game delivered an average audience of 14.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched midsummer classic since 2002.
Tuesday night's contest now stands as the sixth most-watched sporting event of 2009, trailing Super Bowl Xliii, which drew a record 98.7 million viewers to NBC on Feb. 1; the Ncaa National Championship Game (17.6 million); the Kentucky Derby (16.3 million); Game 4 of the NBA Finals and the Daytona 500 (both drew 16 million).
The game, which cruised along at a brisk 2 hours and 31 minutes, saw the American League defeat the National League 4-3, to extend their unbeaten streak to 13. The victory once again gives the Al home-field advantage in the World Series, a wrinkle that was introduced by Mlb commissioner Bud Selig back in 2003, following an unpopular decision to call the prior year's All-Star Game after 11 innings.
Last night's pre-game show, which culminated in President Obama's ceremonial first pitch, drew 11.2 million viewers,...

New York -- Fox Sports said Tuesday it didn't know that one of its contract statisticians who worked as a U.S. Marshals Service lawyer had inappropriately arranged for deputies to drive several of the network's announcers to the 2008 Super Bowl and the 2007 World Series.
A Department of Justice report released Friday found that Joseph Band, who worked as an attorney in the service's Office of General Counsel, had arranged for deputy U.S. Marshals in a government vehicle to take Fox Sports announcers Joe Buck and Tim McCarver to Game 1 and Game 2 of the 2007 World Series at Fenway Park in Boston. Band also put together a Marshals Service escort for their private limousines that left Fenway Park after the games.
The report said Band had "violated the standards of ethical conduct for federal employees and Usms policy governing the use of government vehicles." No Fox Sports executives or announcers were accused of any wrongdoing,...

New York's throwing a heck of a party next week to honor Yankee Stadium's last year as well as the Major League Baseball All-Star Game -- and Fox is planning lots of coverage.
The network will provide exclusive coverage of Tuesday's parade up Sixth Avenue of current All-Stars and what is being billed as the largest collection of living Hall of Famers ever. It won't be live, but this year, it won't be on Fsn, either. Fox Sports plans to begin its telecast on the broadcast network at 7 p.m. Edt, an hour earlier than previous years.
Chris Rose and Mark Grace will anchor the parade coverage, which Fox Sports president Ed Goren said will be something to see. It will include Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and Cal Ripken Jr. Following the coverage of the parade will be a ceremony, beginning at 8 p.m. Edt, from the field at Yankee Stadium. It will feature the All-Stars and Hall of Famers taking the field at their positions. The ceremony is even grander than what Mlb did in 1999 for a ceremony that honored Red Sox slugger Ted Williams when the All-Star Game was at Fenway Park.
"The program that Major League Baseball has put together will even outdo that magnificent evening," Goren said.
The game itself will be called as usual by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Yankees great Yogi Berra will be joining McCarver and Buck in the booth for at least part of the game, McCarver said Wednesday. The ceremony will last until the first pitch, scheduled around 8:40 p.m. There won't be any pregame show other than the ceremony.
"This is just a great, great celebration of baseball for all baseball fans," Goren said.
There are plenty of innovations on the field, too. Yankee Stadium will be outfitted with 21 HD cameras, including HD "diamond cams" in front of home plate and around the foul lines. And there are 80 microphones around the stadium and more on players, managers and umpires.
There's even a blimp for the aerial shots, provided by DirecTV.

NEW YORK -- Famed Yankees outfielder and World Series-winning manager Lou Piniella will join the Fox Sports baseball broadcast booth this month. Meanwhile, his boss, Fox Sports president Ed Goren, said Fox and Major League Baseball were still talking about renewing its deal that includes regular-season baseball, the All-Star Game, the league championship series and the World Series. Fox and MLB were believed to be far apart on price, but Goren said Monday that "absolutely" Fox wanted to make a deal. The Fox-MLB deal runs out at the end of the season. Piniella, who has spent more than 40 years in baseball as a player and a manager, made his broadcast TV debut last October with Fox Sports' Joe Buck and Tim McCarver as an analyst. He's signed a deal with Fox that will put him in the broadcast booth alongside Thom Brennaman beginning May 20 with the Chicago White Sox-Chicago Cubs game.
