- Since 1984, has been co-editor of MAD Magazine along with John Ficarra.
- He attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. While in art school, he wrote several stories for Panic, a satirical comic book, along with Mad, Tales From the Crypt, and other titles. Mad offered him a full-time job in 1956, which he held until he was drafted into the Army; he returned to Mad afterwards.
- He helped Mort Drucker and Al Jaffee get hired at Mad.
