How does one repay a team of producers for launching its highest grossing film of all time? Give them the key to the studio — literally.
On Monday, “Barbie” producers, LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara inked a first-look deal at Warner Bros., which distributed the $1.4 billion-grossing movie. So, to celebrate, Warner Bros. Pictures Group Co-Chairs and CEO Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca decided to resurrect an old tradition, started by WB co-founder Jack Warner.
“Every once in a while, when a significant piece of talent signed a deal with the studio, he presented that company, that talent, with a key to the studio,” De Luca said as he and Abdy raised a toast to the trio. “We are so delighted to have our first key to our studio be given to LuckyChap.”

Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores (“Mediterraneo”) is back behind the camera on “Napoli – New York,” a period immigration drama based on a story written for the screen by Federico Fellini.
Fellini co-wrote the tale of two Neapolitan kids who embark on a ship to New York to escape Italy’s early postwar poverty with his frequent collaborator Tullio Pinelli, a writer on the Italian maestro’s “La Dolce Vita” and “8 1/2,” as well as other titles.
Italian A-lister Pierfrancesco Favino stars as the chief officer of the ship which the two kids, named Carmine and Celestina, manage to board surreptitiously in the port of Naples, becoming clandestine passengers. The youngsters are on a mission to reach the U.S. where they dream of living with Celestina’s sister, who emigrated to New York two years earlier. Newcomers Dea Lanzaro e Antonio Guerra play the kids. (See first-look image above of Favino with the kids and Salvatores.

Hello Omar. I have enjoyed your acting since I first saw you on CSI: Miami many years ago. What is your favorite part of playing Gib on CBS’s True Lies?
My favorite part of playing Gib is the interaction and the character’s direction playing the team leader. Though their popularity peaked long before most of today’s actual teenagers were born, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles never really went away. We’re only six years removed from the most recent live-action film based on the pizza-loving reptiles, and it was just two months ago that a new Tmnt video game was released. Ant Ward and Andy Suriano’s “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie,” which arrives on Netflix this week, is based on the animated series that aired on Nickelodeon from 2018 to 2020. While unlikely to bring any nostalgia-minded fans of the series’ early-’90s heyday back into the fold, “Rise” is a serviceable — if also forgettable — entry in the cowabunga canon.
It would be difficult to overstate how obsessed with ninjas and martial arts children were in the ’90s, with the franchise riding the same wave as “Mortal Kombat,” “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and the “3 Ninjas” movies.

“The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” is proof of how widely streaming services are broadening Hollywood content. Without an Apple TV+, it’s highly doubtful this limited series featuring a platonic familial story revolving around an elderly Black man and teenage Black girl would ever be made. This is despite the fact that the show is an adaptation of a 2010 book from acclaimed multi-genre author Walter Mosley, whose credits include “Devil in a Blue Dress” and the John Singleton-created FX series “Snowfall.” In fact, it took roughly a decade for producer and star Samuel L. Jackson and his team to get the series made. And it would have been tragic to be deprived of the stellar performances by both Jackson and the increasingly impressive Dominique Fishback (“Judas and the Black Messiah”).

Apple TV’s new limited series, “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” feels every bit as overdue as the justice and redemption sought by its nonagenarian protagonist. “Ptolemy Grey” is a passion project for star and executive producer Samuel L. Jackson who has tirelessly hunted for a home for an adaptation of Walter Mosley’s novel since its release in 2010. It’s also, improbably, the first-ever series-length treatment of Mosley’s work, despite his prolific output and a narrative milieu full of the sexy mysteries prestige television thrives on.
Mosley created the series himself, having cut his teeth as an executive producer of FX’s “Snowfall” and a brief stint on “Star Trek: Discovery.” Mosley either wrote or co-wrote “Ptolemy’s” six episodes, and it’s hard to imagine that another writer could have gotten into the headspace of the truly unique character he created. As Samuel L. Jackson took the microphone to introduce the screening of “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” the acting icon reflected on the 12-year journey to get the limited series made.
“This was a project that’s been eating me up for 10-12 years, and I’ve been chasing it and running it to different places trying to get it done,” Jackson told the crowd inside the Regency Bruin Theatre in Westwood. “Fighting to keep it from being an hour and a half movie or two hours; you can’t tell this story in that time. But to get here is amazing. They say ‘Hollywood is a place of dreams,’ and this is a dream come true.”
In the Apple original series, Jackson stars as the 91-year-old Grey, a man slipping deeper into dementia, who sets off to solve the mysterious death of his nephew (Omar Benson Miller) with...

It’s hard to dislike “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” if only because of its earnest message and the saccharine nature of its screenplay about an aging, lonely man with dementia, and the teenage girl who comes to his rescue. It’s a tenderly written coming-of-age story, an odyssey, and a romance all in one. Performances by Samuel L. Jackson and Dominique Fishback are the saving grace for a series that wears its heart on its sleeve and is emotionally manipulative enough that one can’t help but be sympathetic to it. Based on the Walter Mosley novel of the same name, viewers may find it easier to simply acquiesce to its bigheartedness than push back against its predictability and at times plodding progression.

AppleTV+ dropped the first trailer for limited series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” on Friday, in which Samuel L. Jackson is aged 20 years to play the dementia-ridden 90-plus-year-old title character. He agrees to an experimental medical treatment to regain all his memories, but the effect is only temporary. He’s now in a race against time to solve the murder of his nephew before his restored memory fades.
The six-episode series premieres globally Friday, March 11 on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes, followed by one new episode each Friday. It’s based on the 2010 novel of the same name by Walter Mosley, who also wrote the script and serves as executive producer.
Logline: “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” stars Jackson as Ptolemy Grey, an ailing man forgotten by his family, by his friends, and by even himself. Suddenly left without his trusted caretaker and on the brink...

LeVar Burton hosted "Jeopardy!" Monday night, and his performance as quizmaster prompted fans of the show to say that he should be the quiz show's permanent host.
Burton, a veteran actor, former "Reading Rainbow" host and star in "Star Trek," will be the "Jeopardy!" guest host for the next week. He taped his episodes several months ago, which spurred some considerable hype leading up to it. Burton had been gunning for the spot of at least guest host on "Jeopardy!" for some time now as well. He signed a fan petition to make him the show's next host in 2013 and said three years ago that "there is only one game show I’ve ever wanted to host... This Is Jeopardy!"
"Jeopardy!" has been without a permanent host since the beloved emcee -- and host of 37 seasons since 1984 -- Alex Trebek passed away last November. The show has rotated through guest...

Wade Felton is one Unicorn that just became extinct: CBS has cancelled the Walton Goggins-led sitcom after just two seasons, TVLine has learned.
The Unicorn followed a close group of friends who joined together to help their widower friend Wade (Goggins) grieve and move on with his life following the death of his wife. The sitcom tracked Wade as he re-entered the crazy life of dating — where he became quite a hot commodity — all while raising two daughters as a single dad.
