Part of the fun of “Wonder Woman 1984” was the way it embraced the decade it was set in, from the fashion choices (Chris Pine’s fanny packs!) to the aesthetics (who else felt like they time traveled back to their childhood with that mall in the opening?) And hell yes to that soundtrack.
But the movie is also explicitly set in the era defined by the man who served as President of the United States at the time — Ronald Reagan. And it features an actual encounter with a President of the United States. But is the president featured in “Wonder Woman 1984” intended to be the guy who served as the Irl 40th president?
Well, smartly, the film never really confirms things one way or the other. The president is never addressed by name and if you’re looking to do a little detective work, you’re out of...

A floppy-haired con artist, known for his TV presence in which he pretends to be a successful businessman, gets his hands on the ultimate power, and then when he proves incapable of wielding it, he’d rather destroy the world than acknowledge his own petty inadequacies. It’s a wild fantasy scenario, to be certain, but it provides the satirical underpinnings for “Wonder Woman 1984” to mock the rapacious greed of the Reagan era and its ongoing reverberations into the 21st century.
The film’s wickedly pungent social satire must occasionally step aside for superheroics, of course. And while the reteaming of Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins provides the expected thrills and excitement, this sequel shares the significant flaw of its predecessor: Both films graft an unwieldy and effects-heavy finale onto a movie that had managed to create relatable characters and situations, even when both are larger than life. It appears that ABC intends for The Assets to be a mini-series with just eight episodes. But, if the show is a big hit in the ratings, can a second season be far behind? What will happen? Stay tuned!
The Assets revolves around the real life events of CIA counter-intelligence officers Sandy Grimes (Jodie Whittaker) and Jeanne Vertefeuille (Harriet Walter) and their search for the most notorious traitor in Us History, Aldrich Ames (Paul Rhys). Others in the cast include Stuart Milligan, Julian Ovenden, Christina Cole, and Ralph Brown.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest.

Last night, ABC unveiled their newest Thursdays at 10pm show. Will The Assets be a hit like Scandal or, another ratings disappointment?
Based on the book Circle of Treason, The Assets follows the real life story of CIA counter-intelligence officers Sandy Grimes (Jodie Whittaker) and Jeanne Vertefeuille (Harriet Walter) as they search for Aldrich Ames (Paul Rhys), the most notorious traitor in Us History. Others in this 1980s drama include include Stuart Milligan, Julian Ovenden, Christina Cole, and Ralph Brown.
Airing opposite new episodes of Elementary on CBS and Parenthood on NBC, The Assets was in a distant third place. It premiered with a dismal 0.7 rating (a 0.66 actually) in the 18-49 demographic and 3.77 million total viewers -- the lowest series premiere in the history of the four big networks.

Cameron sings the praises of 25 classic and modern Doctor Who adventures that went underappreciated. See what made the cut below...
Doctor Who fans can be an odd bunch at times (and by that I mean all the time), what's gold to one is dross to another. And when you think everyone is agreed on a genuine stinker (Timelash, for example), you'll find it has admirers in abundance. But what's here are some of the stories that, for whatever reason, get overlooked, underseen and, perhaps, undervalued - in no particular order.
The Awakening
Two-parters often get forgotten about (in classic Doctor Who at any rate) and this Peter Davison story, whilst perhaps best known to Who fans for a famous blooper featuring a horse, has some tremendous imagery and beautiful location shooting. Best of all is the villain of the piece, The Malus, who put the willies...

So basically this is “Doctor Who does Beowulf with special guest star Roger from American Dad!” That it does so in a very good, entertaining fashion is kind of a given, seeing as this is something from Big Finish. But it is not without problems.
First, this story, far more than most from Big Finish, really relies on you knowing what’s gone before. You don’t have to have listened to the three prior stories, “Project: Destiny”, “The House of Blue Fire” and “Protect and Survive”, but if you haven’t you’re going to be desperately confused. You’ll have no idea who Sally Morgan (Amy Pemberton) and Lysandra Aristedes (Maggie O’Neill) are, for example (you might not even know who Hex (Phillip Olivier) is, if you haven’t heard any of the audios). You won’t know of their past,...

One minute there's a Christmas present. The next minute it's taken away from you. Presumably, the sizeable army of Jonathan Creek fans found this when rumours of a 2012 Christmas special recently surfaced on the web. Alas, it turned out to be a false hope, since the main man himself Alan Davies said that the news was no more than a rumour and that nothing had been set up to compete alongside Time Lord festivities, Brucie's frosty-looking wig and Scrooge-esque happenings in Albert Square.
So what is it about Jonathan Creek that still brings the viewers back for more? The last Christmas special, The Grinning Man (broadcast in 2009) gained nearly 10 million viewers, a strong showing for the festive competition, suggesting that there was still a healthy demand for the unassuming fellah in the duffle coat. Basically, for the most part, it's a two-pronged mystery. Not only can it feature whodunnit elements,...

Never mind me wittering ten to the dozen about TV's greatest ever series, it seems that the world and his wife want to talk about Doctor Who these days. Especially when a brand spanking new series hits the airwaves – that's cause for all sorts of newspapers, magazines, websites and TV shows to promote, discuss and analyse the latest escapades of the good Doctor.
Take the latest season – NuWho Season Six - or Season 32 if we're including the entire history. There's been plenty of drama happening in the latest season, but equally, there's been equal helpings of drama dished up by various critics and scaremongers who can't resist making a meal out of the slightest issue. So before entering the maelstrom of The Impossible Astronaut/Day Of The Moon (Impossible Moon), it's worth having a look at some of the furore surrounding its début. 3 months later July 1969 Valley of the Gods, Utah. Amy (Karen Gillan) is caught by Canton (Mark Sheppard) and shot. She aks if he can remember why he's doing this. Cue flashback with the Doctor (Matt Smith) telling Canton to look behind him. The Doctor is tied up and now sports a beard and long-ish hair. Reminded me of Robinson Crusoe. Well the image just came to me as he looked a little ship-wrecked, or should I say Tardis-wrecked. Amy had markings on her arm. New York. River (Alex Kingston) has the same markings too as she's chased by The Silent. She marks her arm everytime she sees one. It's a tally to remind her she's seen them. Canton catches up with her too and she tells him they were invaded a long time ago. She's cornered by him and his men; uttering, "There's always a way out." Before she plunges backwards off the edge.

He was also imprisoned in the Tower and escaped in the Tardis. As well as attempting an escape in a World War Two escape tunnel. As well as in the Laurel and Hardy movie, on the TV. Amy (Karen Gillan) opens the blue envelope which is an unsigned invitation to a planet called America. River (Alex Kingston) also gets one. As for the name, this tells us we're already in the future, since it's no longer Planet Earth. The Doctor waits for them to arrive and now sports a Stetson. "Stetsons are cool." The beginning of this review is spoiler-free and at the end are clearly marked Spoiler section for those of you who have not yet seen the episode.
Episode 1, The Impossible Astronaut, has a lot of ground to cover in terms of establishing what the overall plot of this new series is. After a quick and humorous check in with Amy (Karen Gillan), Rory (Arthur Darvill), and River (Alex Kingston), our heroes meet up with The Doctor (Matt Smith) and we...

Steven Moffat’s greatest strength is also his greatest weakness. The episodes he wrote during Russell T. Davies’ era of Doctor Who‘s revival buzzed with a complex playfulness that was mostly absent at that time in its history. As the incumbent showrunner he can indulge himself with similar takes on almost a weekly basis, and there were times during “The Impossible Astronaut” when you missed the show’s simplicity and, to be honest, the narrative somersaults were too dominant. This is a show that, while still fundamentally simple and beautifully accessible (eccentric alien travels through Time and Space saving the universe with human companions), now revels in in-jokes, Cat’s Cradle plotting, and geeky references. The good news is that most people watching can keep up, or want to try, but this was still a dizzying, hectic storyline — and one that likely confused Americans the BBC so clearly want to convert into Whovians…...

With a new trailer, new faces and a new writer, the hit sci-fi show Doctor Who made an appearance at San Francisco's WonderCon.
Like most of the Us convention circuit, WonderCon had its share of big comic book reveals, exciting new film footage and stars talking about all things fabulous in Hollywood.
Despite all of that, nothing managed to overshadow the anticipation for Sunday's Doctor Who panel. Present were director Toby Haynes (Five Days, Being Human), actor Mark Sheppard (24, Battlestar Galactica, Warehouse 13) and writer extraordinaire - and newcomer to Doctor Who - Neil Gaiman (pictured; Neverwhere, American Gods), all introduced by moderator Chris Hardwick.
The panel - which focused heavily on the two-part story that not only takes place in the Us, but was also filmed on location in the Utah desert - hit on the usual claims of the Doctor facing his biggest threat ever...

The Doctor is getting closer to resuming house calls though our television sets next month and after a comedic two-part webisode for Red Nose Day in the U.K., the teasing of the upcoming season continues.
Doctor Who TV has announced that BBC will roll out a prequel webisode to the two-part season premiere "soon," which will introduce the audience to the menace the Doctor, Amy, and Rory will encounter in the first episode of the sixth season. Written by the shows current showrunner Steven Moffat, the prequel will set "the scene in scary and mysterious style," according to the BBC.
The network also warns viewers to pay attention to what could be a "new monster," but whether this monster will be a recurring monster, the Big Bad of the season, or just a one off character has yet to be reported. But we do know that these prequels, especially the first one,...

Just as Craig Ferguson's 'Who'-related talk show episode last week scored a lot of great columnist write-ups, details have begun to emerge on the currently shooting sixth season of "Doctor Who" via Gallifrey Base.
First up BBC America have announced that the Christmas special, entitled "A Christmas Carol", will be fast tracked to certain international territories including the U.S. and Australia where, with time zone differences taken into account, it will air literally just a few hours after the U.K. broadcast (December 25th in the U.S., December 26th in Australia).
The Steven Moffat-penned episode sounds like a different spin on the Dickens classic, best guess is that instead of three ghosts visiting the same man it's one ghost (The Doctor) visiting a man at three different stages in his life as the cast list features the characters 'Young Kazran', 'Middle Kazran' and 'Older Kazran' with...
