Fans are still hoping for the Lizzie McGuire reboot to happen!
Now, one of the writers on the canceled Disney+ revival is spilling some of the plot points that were to happen in the show.
One of the reasons the reboot was canceled was due to creative differences, where Disney thought the material was too adult, while creator Terri Minsky and star Hilary Duff wanted to properly portray an adult Lizzie in her 30s.
These new details, as revealed in a TikTok video by writer Jonathan Hurwitz, point to the adult themes that it would have tackled in the first few episodes.

It’s been more than three years since Disney+ decided to scrap its grown-up Lizzie McGuire revival, but if you think we’re done talking about it, you couldn’t be more wrong.
Fortunately, we have some fresh tea to discuss, courtesy of writer Jonathan Hurwitz, who confirmed on TikTok that Lizzie’s reunion with middle school Bff Gordo (Adam Lamberg) wouldn’t exactly go the way some fans hoped.

Warning: This story contains spoilers from “A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Valentine’s Day,” the March 7 episode of “How I Met Your Father,” now streaming on Hulu.
Does Lizzie McGuire grow up to be Sophie Tompkins? It sure looks like. During Tuesday’s episode of “How I Met Your Father,” the group reflects on their past Valentine’s Day experiences. When it’s Sophie’s (Hilary Duff) turn, she has a flashback to when she was 13. Then, a clip of the Season 2 premiere of “Lizzie McGuire,” which aired in Feb 2002, is shown, during which she’s talking on the phone to her boyfriend while Miranda (Lalaine) is at her side.
So, does that mean that Sophie and Lizzie are the same person? “I’m not confirming that, but it felt like a really fun thing for us to do,” executive producer Elizabeth Berger tells Variety. “We got a temperature check from Hilary,...

More than two years after dreams of a Lizzie McGuire revival were dashed, Hulu’s How I Met Your Father is revisiting the iconic Disney Channel property via flashback.
During Tuesday’s episode, appropriately titled “A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Valentine’s Day,” Sophie & Co. recount their worst Valentine’s Day experiences in order to cheer up Ellen. What follows are glimpses from the gang’s past — all newly created except for one. Rather than hire a teenage actress to play 13-year-old Sophie, the series cuts to a clip from Hilary Duff’s early-aughts sitcom.

Despite recently reopening the door for a “Lizzie McGuire” Disney+ reboot, Hilary Duff said she has not heard from Disney about any plans for a revival since.
When asked if she had heard from Disney since sharing that she is “optimistic” about a potential reboot, Duff responded, “No, I haven’t.” “Phone hasn’t rang,” Duff told TheWrap during a press day for Hulu’s “How I Met Your Father.”
Last month, Duff opened up about her hopefulness for a “Lizzie McGuire” revival, which was scrapped at Disney+ in 2020, during a recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” in which host Andy Cohen asked Duff if she would still consider doing the reboot if “it lived up to her vision.”
The “Younger” star responded enthusiastically, “of course!”

Despite the “Lizzie McGuire” revival getting scrapped at Disney+ in 2020, Hilary Duff said she is “optimistic” about a potential reboot during a recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.”
When host Andy Cohen asked Duff if she would still consider doing the “Lizzie McGuire” revival if “it lived up to her vision,” the “How I Met Your Father” star responded emphatically, “of course!”
Though Duff was hesitant to reveal what “the main sticking point” was in getting the show off the ground, she referenced the creative differences between Disney+ executives and herself, pointing to the streamer’s newness at the time of development.
“Disney+ was very new and I think they were figuring out their… and we were figuring out our… and I am optimistic,” Duff said.

A “How I Met Your Mother” sequel series titled “How I Met Your Father” has been ordered at Hulu with Hilary Duff attached to star.
In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. According to an individual with knowledge of the project, it remains unclear how/if the new show will tie into the original.
The new series hails from “This Is Us” co-showrunners and “Love, Victor” co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who serve as writers and executive producers on the news series. “How I Met Your Mother” creators Carter Bays...

One of the biggest disappointments of 2020, aside from the coronavirus pandemic and the other disasters that need not be recollected, was the cancellation of the The Lizzie McGuire Show revival. The December announcement from Hilary Duff, which feels like it was truly months ago, was a moment that upset thousands. But according to a tell-all interview with Vice, no one was more let down than the cast itself. But first, a refresher: Hilary previously claimed that Disney cancelled the series because of her and show creator Terri Minsky's insistence that the adult Lizzie be sexually active. In March, Hilary said that it was only right to include this...

Hilary Duff has revealed that the reboot of Lizzie McGuire is not moving forward at Disney+.
The actor took to Instagram to say the project “isn’t going to happen” (see her post below) It is the end of a tumultuous process for the show, which Deadline first revealed in August 2019.
However, the original series’ creator Terri Minsky stepped down in January, and Duff pleaded in February for the Hollywood studio to move to the project to Hulu.
The reimagined version of Lizzie McGuire was a sequel to the 2000s Disney Channel series. Duff was reprising her title character as a 30-year-old millennial navigating life in New York City.
Duff wrote: “I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me.

The cast of “Lizzie McGuire” has finally reunited –- though not for the much-anticipated series reboot.
Instead, Hilary Duff surprised fans by posting a Zoom table read to Instagram TV. “We could not stop laughing reading lines from tween us,” Duff wrote in her caption. “This is the first time we were all ‘together-ish’ in almost 18 years!”
It’s been almost two decades since the show’s first episode. The formerly teenage cast is all grown up, and Lamberg and Thomas both sport mustaches.

A spinoff of Hilary Duff comedy “Younger” is in early development with creator Darren Star at ViacomCBS, a source tells Variety.
The TVLand half hour, starring Duff and Sutton Foster, is entering its seventh season, making it the cable network’s longest-running original scripted series. The show, which initially centered on Foster’s Liza Miller, a 40-year-old divorcee posing as a millennial in order to return to the book publishing industry, revolves around the friendship between Duff and Foster’s characters as they navigate their careers and relationships. Duff stars as editor Kelsey Peters.
The series was created, written and executive produced by Star. Last year, “Younger” ranked as the top cable comedy among women 18-49 and women 25-54.; TVLand said that the Season 6 premiere last June was its highest-rated season premiere ever among viewers aged 25-54 and women 25-54.
A TVLand spokesperson declined to comment on the development moves.

Younger could be about to birth a spinoff.
THR is reporting that a Hilary Duff-led sequel has entered development.
The new series hails from Younger creator Darren Star, but there's no telling what network it will air on.
Given that the original series is on TV Land, it's likely the new one will be a part of the ViacomCBS brand, with a possible home being on the forthcoming CBS All Access relaunch.
Duff has been with the original series since its debut, so it is likely there will be a planted episode on the previously announced seventh season of Younger.
Younger has been a success story for TV Land, with the most recent season emerging as the highest rated cable sitcom among women 25-54 and women 18-49.
Star also recently made Emily in Paris, which was set to premiere on Paramount Network, but THR is reporting could be sold off to a streaming home.

Younger has been a success story for TV Land, with the most recent season emerging as the highest rated cable sitcom among women 25-54 and women 18-49.
Star also recently made Emily in Paris, which was set to premiere on Paramount Network, but THR is reporting could be sold off to a streaming home.

The Lizzie McGuire revival may be stuck in limbo, but we could still get Hilary Duff‘s adventures in New York City via — wait for it — a spinoff of Younger, focused on Duff’s character.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ViacomCBS is working with Younger creator Darren Star on developing a Kelsey Peters-centric spinoff. It’s unclear which network would house the Duff-led series; it could wind up on Paramount Network, as was once the plan for Younger, or it could end up on any number of streaming platforms. (Star’s Emily in Paris, led by Lily Collins, is reportedly headed for Netflix.

Hilary Duff is updating fans on the latest regarding the Lizzie McGuire reboot. Like many things in 2020, the reboot was one of the things that lost its spark this year. As fans may recall, Lizzie McGuire lost its original creator as Disney+ put a "new lens" on the series. E! News confirmed in January that Terri Minsky, the original creator and showrunner of the Disney show, had exited the reboot but the series was still in production at the streaming service. However, comments made by Duff alluded that there was something more going on what the network led on. In February, Duff asked Disney+ in a statement posted to her Instagram to relinquish the series' streaming...

Lizzie McGuire was supposed to tackle sex and infidelity head on in the first episode of the new series—that's what made Disney+ so anxious, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter. Production on the series was halted and series creator and executive producer Terri Minsky was let go from the project after two episodes were completed. Hilary Duff has publicly asked Disney to consider moving her “Lizzie McGuire” revival to Hulu after news broke that production the Disney+ series has been halted.
“I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating,” Duff wrote on Instagram. “It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable. It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”
IndieWire has reached out to Disney for comment.
Variety reported on Wednesday that production on the show was halted in July after Terri Minsky, the original series’ creator and the revival’s showrunner, was fired after only two episodes had been completed.

In a statement on Instagram Friday, Hillary Duff called on Disney to move the planned “Lizzie McGuire” revival from Disney+ to Hulu.
The series, a revival of the Disney Channel sitcom that launched Duff’s career, was put on hiatus last month after showrunner Terri Minsky exited the series over creative differences with the streamer. Minsky explained her exit in a recent interview with Variety, saying that her plan to make the show more “mature” didn’t fit with the family-friendly Disney+ brand.
Duff’s post backed Minsky’s original vision, suggesting that Disney should move the show to sister streaming network Hulu where it wouldn’t run up on the same content restrictions. The “Love, Simon” spinoff series “Love, Victor” recently made the same jump for much the same reasons.

Nostalgia is a fickle mistress. Embrace it too much and you run the risk of looking dated, but diverge and audiences forget why they loved a show in the first place. This is the battle currently raging around Disney+ and their spate of new programming.
At last year’s D23 Expo, in a crowded auditorium filled to bursting with fans, the new streaming service announced plans for a revival of the popular 2001 teen series “Lizzie McGuire.” Reuniting star Hilary Duff and showrunner Terri Minsky, the series promised to hold to what drew fans to the series while giving us a Lizzie who, now in her 30s, suffered from a new string of issues.
But after that splashy announcement the love between the series and Disney quickly soured, culminating with the announcement at the beginning of this year that the series had been shut down and Minsky fired. Yesterday, Variety detailed...

The creator of Lizzie McGuire wants the series to move from Disney+ to Hulu.
Terri Minsky -- who created the original series -- has opened up about being let go from the revival after filming two episodes.
“I am so proud of the two episodes we did,” Minsky said in an interview with Variety.
"Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch."
"I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing."
"That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”

Any other millennials ready to storm the gates of Disney+? Thanks to Variety, a little more insight has come out in terms of why the Lizzie McGuire series continues to stall. Original series creator Terri Minsky was fired in early January after two episodes had been filmed, while Hilary Duff and new husband Matthew Koma were on their honeymoon, and the show hasn't resumed filming. After it was announced that the Love, Simon sequel series was moving from Disney+ to Hulu for not being "family-friendly," Hilary Duff posted that headline in her Instagram story and said it "sounds familiar...," leading us all to wonder if the same thing was happening with...

Disney Plus does not seem to be figuring it out on the way when it comes to the “Lizzie McGuire” revival.
Production on the show halted in January after the firing of original series creator and revival showrunner Terri Minsky after just two episodes were completed. Her unceremonious exit has led many industry insiders to speculate that the revival will not move forward.
Series star Hilary Duff has remained mostly mum on the subject, but she has made her feelings known in some not-so-subtle ways. Late Tuesday night, Duff posted a screenshot to her Instagram story of a news headline about the planned Disney Plus “Love, Simon” series. Now titled “Love, Victor,” the show was moved this week to Hulu after it was deemed not “family-friendly” enough for the Disney-branded streamer. In her post, Duff circled the words “family-friendly” in the headline and wrote above it “Sounds familiar.”

We’re getting one step closer each and every day to Disney+’s Lizzie McGuire reboot…or are we?
Hilary Duff took to Instagram yesterday with a cryptic message to her fans following the news of the streamer’s Love, Simon spinoff Love, Victor moving to Hulu because of its less-than-family-friendly subject matter.
“Sounds familiar,” Duff wrote. (See the screenshot of her Instagram Story below.)
Back in January, it was announced that creator Terri Minsky would be stepping down as showrunner of the sequel series due to creative differences. Based on Duff’s message, perhaps “adult themes” were to blame for the hold up.
Fans of the popular 2000s series shouldn’t worry too much, however. According to sources at Disney+, there’s been no change in the series’ status, and it is still being redeveloped.
Here’s hoping they can figure it out on the way.

Little has been said about the Lizzie McGuire revival since it emerged that original creator Terri Minskey was bowing out of the Disney+ series after filming just two episodes, with the series going on hiatus.
Now, it seems like Hilary Duff is speaking out about the issues surrounding the revival of the beloved series.
Earlier this week, Love Victor -- an upcoming sequel to the 2018 movie Love, Simon -- was revealed to be moving from Disney+ to Hulu.
While no official reason was given, multiple outlets reported that it was in relation to the content of the show, with it featuring themes that were allegedly too mature for Disney+.
Duff took to Instagram, sharing the headline with the following caption:

Hilary Duff is (sort of) speaking out about the problems surrounding her postponed Lizzie McGuire revival.

In a surprise announcement, Bob Iger said he was stepping down as Disney’s chief exec citing “the successful launch of Disney’s direct-to-consumer businesses” as one reason for the timing as he hands off to new CEO Bob Chapek.
True, Disney earlier this month reported tremendous growth for Disney Plus, racking up 28.6 million users just three months out of the gate, as well as gains at Hulu (which it now controls) and ESPN Plus. The company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International division is headed by Kevin Mayer, who had been seen by some as a possible successor to Iger in the CEO seat. Disney created Dtci in 2018 as part of a reorg in creating a dedicated home for its streaming initiatives.
Yet there are signs that Disney’s streaming businesses are still very much a work in progress, with key questions of how all the pieces will fit together — or not — moving forward.

There’s some quacking news over at Disney Plus.
The streamer has issued a 10-episode series order for a sequel to “The Mighty Ducks,” and has tapped “Gilmore Girls” star Lauren Graham to play the lead.
Graham will star as Alex and “Good Girls” standout Brady Noon is set to portray her son, Evan. Based on the 90s franchise, which was comprised of three live-action films and one animated series, this updated version begins production in the next couple weeks in Vancouver and is slated to premiere later in 2020 on Disney Plus. Graham is also a co-executive producer on the series.

Pre-production on the Obi-Wan Kenobi-focused TV series in the works at Disney Plus has been put on hold as the streamer and Lucasfilm look to overhaul early scripts and find new writers, sources tell Variety.
Hossein Amini had been attached to write. The news follows recent talk that the entire series was being scrapped altogether.
Ewan McGregor confirmed last August that he would be reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the series, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had said then that “we have all the scripts written” and that shooting was slated to begin in 2020. McGregor played the Jedi in three “Star War” prequels; after years of speculation that he might reprise the role for a standalone film, the less-than-stellar response to standalone spinoff film “Solo” reportedly dampened those efforts.

A remake of the 1980s teen space adventure “Space Camp” is in development at Disney+, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
“Saturday Night Live” writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell are writing the script. John Rickard (“Rampage”) is producing.
“Space Camp” followed a group of teenagers who attended an astronaut camp near Cape Canaveral, Florida. When they are sitting in a space shuttle during an engine test, they are accidentally launched into space and they must work together to bring the shuttle back to earth.
