Hitmen, the scripted comedy vehicle for Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, has been renewed for a second season by Comcast-owned broadcaster Sky. NBCUniversal’s Peacock has also committed to acquiring Season 2 in the U.S. after it streamed Season 1.
Produced by Banijay’s Tiger Aspect, Hitmen is about two friends Fran (Perkins) and Jamie (Giedroyc) trying to make their way in the world with only each other to rely on. They also just happen to be assassins.
The second season, created and written by Joe Parham and Joe Markham, will see a new friend create a rift between Fran and Jamie, ultimately jeopardizing their double act.
Tiger Aspect produces in association with Sky Studios. Myfanwy Moore, Siobhan Bachman, Morwenna Gordon and Tilusha Ghelani executive produce. The commissioners are Zai Bennett, Sky UK’s managing director content, and Jon Mountague, Sky Studios’ director of comedy. NBCU Global Distribution handles international sales.

“The Great British Baking Show” fans were in for a rude awakening when they tuned in to Season 5 of their beloved reality competition show this fall. Gone were the slick blazers and snarky quips of co-hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, not to mention the impeccable coiffure of Mary Berry. Fortunately, Mel and Sue have landed on their feet and scored their very own six-episode assassin sitcom, Radio Times reports. Developed by Sky One, “Hitmen” will star Mel and Sue as a pair of best friends and hapless killers, whose assassin jobs are often derailed by their endless bickering.
Known as “The Great British Bake Off” in its home country, Love Productions moved the series from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2016. Mel and Sue departed in the network hand-off, stating at the time: “We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was… we...

Sky has cooked up latest high-profile comedy Hitmen, starring former Bake Off hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.
The pay-tv giant, which had a busy weekend after Comcast lodged a $40B offer to takeover the company, has commissioned the six-part series to air in 2019 that will see the British presenters play a pair of contract killers.
The series is produced by Peaky Blinders co-producer Tiger Aspect, which is part of Endemol Shine.
Perkins and Giedroyc play misfits Fran and Jamie, who stumbled into a career in contract killing. Working out of their scruffy van, each episode follows the hapless duo as they try to carry out their latest hit, inevitably derailed by incompetence, bickering, and inane antics. As each hit goes south, the pair are thrown into one bizarre misadventure after another, each full of oddball characters and unexpected dilemmas. As the mishaps rack up, Fran and Jamie’s friendship is put through the wringer.

Tracey Ullman has been creating characters – and a string of successful shows, including Tracey Takes On… (HBO, 1996-99) and Tracey Ullman's State of the Union (Showtime, 2008-10) – for decades. Vicious is back - ITV's divisive sitcom returned tonight, over two years since it first split both critics and the public.
Launching to a solid 5.78m viewers in April 2013, the show experienced a drop-off in viewership across its six episodes - but levelled out at around the 2.5-2.8m mark.
Reaction from viewers was more volatile, however - comedian Barry Cryer even branded Vicious "positively homophobic".
Star Ian McKellen admitted there was some room for improvement, but defended the show from accusations of homophobia, while ITV's then-Commissioning Editor of Comedy, Myfanwy Moore described the first as a "learning curve" - but added that she was "really proud" of what it had achieved.
ITV aired a Christmas special and confirmed a second series in late 2013, while creator Gary Janetti has also been talking up a possible third run - but would you watch?

The new Vicious trailer has offered a first look at the sitcom's second series.
Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi will return as couple Freddie Thornhill and Stuart Bixby for six new episodes.
The sitcom also stars Frances de la Tour and Iwan Rheon.
The first series of Vicious was met with a mixed reception from critics and viewers, with some going as far as labelling it homophobic.
McKellen recently defended the show against such suggestions, but said that work needed to be done to improve the show heading into its second series.
Vicious was recommissioned by ITV in August 2013, with the channel's comedy commissioning editor Myfanwy Moore admitting that the first series was a "learning curve".
Vicious will return to ITV later this year.

Ian McKellen has spoken about the return of ITV sitcom Vicious and "getting it better".
The comedy series drew a mixed reception from critics, with McKellen telling Advocate.com that his own performance "needs attention".
"It was particularly difficult for me to work out how to play to an audience of 500 people - who are in the studio with us - and play more subtly to the camera," he said.
"I think there's a level of playing that I'm interested in getting right [this time]."
McKellen also voiced his desire for there to be "more signs of modern gay life" in the second series.
"I've heard hints that the characters are going to be getting out of the house a bit more, and I like that," he said.
However, the veteran actor defended Vicious from accusations that it is homophobic.

ITV's Myfanwy Moore has described sitcoms Vicious and The Job Lot as a "learning curve".
The comedy commissioning editor claimed that ITV is "really proud" of both series, but added that no decision has been made on whether they will be recommissioned, Broadcast reports.
Moore added that in addition to their current Monday night comedy double-bill, the channel is looking for new hour-long shows to fill the Friday night "Benidorm slot".
"It's the white heat of primetime - we have to play things in punchy places, so we know there's nowhere to hide," said Moore.
Sir Derek Jacobi recently claimed that a second series of Vicious might not shoot until 2014, due to his co-star Sir Ian McKellen's busy film schedule.
"We've done a Christmas special to remind people that we're still around, because Ian, of course, is a movie star," Jacobi explained.
