With the April 15 episode of “NCIS” on CBS, the overall franchise — including its multiple spinoffs — clocks its 1,000th episode. That’s a milestone for all of the associated series, but the mothership show accounts for nearly half of those, and is edging ever closer to its own once-unfathomable benchmark: “NCIS” O.G. is at 463 episodes and counting, with the 500-show mark hardly out of reach, especially now that the show has just been renewed for its 22nd season. There’s no end in sight, with the top-rated drama series having proven its ability to withstand cast changes, such as the loss of Mark Harmon, the show’s original team leader, in 2021. (Gary Cole tagged in as Harmon was departing during Season 19.)
And yet, if there were a complete and total turnover, fans’ loyalty might not still be the same. Although there’s no cast member left from the show’s...

NCIS actor Sean Murray, who has played Senior Field Agent Timothy McGee since the CBS drama’s first season, has been dishing out some fun awards for his fellow castmates. Murray spoke with People ahead of the show’s milestone 1000th episode, which airs tonight, Monday, April 15, and, in celebration, he gave his co-stars some classic yearbook superlatives. When asked for NCIS‘ “biggest class clown,” Murray laughed and said, “My brother, Mr. Wilmer Valderrama.” “He’s a steady stream of hilariousness for myself and many others, so we have a lot of fun shooting together, and I see that guy offset all the time,” Murray said of his co-star, who plays Special Agent Nicholas Torres. “He’s a lot of fun. I’m going to give that one to Wilmer.” As for the “biggest mom or dad” of the crew, Murray gave that one to Katrina Law, who joined the...

In case you somehow missed it, the 1,000th episode of the NCISverse is upcoming.
That will be NCIS Season 21 Episode 7, airing on CBS at 9 p.m. Monday, April 15.
The event was heralded by an Entertainment Tonight special hosted by Kevin Frazier, which aired April 8 on CBS. It's likely still available on streaming service Paramount+.
NCIS has been on 21 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles lasted 14 seasons, and NCIS: New Orleans seven. NCIS: Hawaii is in its third season, while NCIS: Sydney recently finished its first season. You do the math to get to 999.
So, as the NCISverse's 1,000th episode approaches, would now be the peak for the franchise, with two spinoffs airing this season and two new spinoffs planned for next season?
Not at all, although this certainly could be seen as the golden age of NCIS Recycling, which admittedly is at least in vogue now.

Sean Murray now holds the distinction of being the longest-running NCIS cast member. However, despite being the stepson of the show’s creator, Donald Bellisario, he still does not feel very secure in his job.
That seems so unlikely as on Monday, CBS will be celebrating the 1,000 episode of the NCISVerse. Yet, he remains uncertain.

NCIS Season 21 is going by very quickly. Fans may be upset to learn it’s also already half over.
The two Hollywood strikes not only delayed production for months – it has also led to a much shorter season.
Five episodes from Season 21 have already aired, with only five new ones left to debut this spring.
Hopefully, CBS will order NCIS Season 22 soon, so fans can look forward to more new content next year.
Previous episodes of NCIS are also available for streaming on Paramount+, allowing fans to enjoy older content during the upcoming summer hiatus. That includes the Ducky tribute episode that said goodbye to David McCallum earlier this season.
As for the remaining episodes this season, some noteworthy ones are already on the CBS TV schedule.

The world of NCIS keeps growing, with two shows currently airing new seasons (the mothership and Hawai’i), one already set to return for another (Sydney), and two more ordered to series for some time in 2024-2025. One of those new ones is NCIS: Origins, a prequel story about Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early years, picking up in 1991. (The other is a spinoff about Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s characters.) Mark Harmon serves as narrator and executive producer, and Austin Stowell will play the young version of the character he starred as for 19 seasons on NCIS. “I was aware of it before it got going. The 1,000th episode from the NCIS Universe has officially been filmed.
Those numbers include episodes from the original NCIS and the various spin-offs.
“Reaching 1,000 episodes for the franchise was insane, and, by the way, I’m pointing out that almost 500 of those are just us,” NCIS star Sean Murray said.
Murray has been featured as Agent Timothy McGee since the first season. And his character is still going strong in NCIS Season 21.
“It’s unreal. We had a lot of people asking what it was like, and I kept kind of shaking my head because it’s really unfathomable,” Murray added to TV Insider.
Murray also teased NCIS set photos featuring Joe Spano. That’s the actor who has played Tobias Fornell for years. Fornell usually appears in a Gibbs-centric episode, but Mark Harmon retired his character to Alaska.

NCIS over the years has been through numerous cast changes. In fact, no one on the cast in its 21st season was a series regular for its first. But the actor who has been there the longest is Sean Murray, who first played Timothy McGee (he was a probie!) in Season 1, Episode 7 “Sub Rosa.” But he only recurred throughout the first season, and his journey to becoming a series regular was “an interesting one,” as he tells TV Insider. Murray’s stepfather, Donald Bellisario, created NCIS and Murray had worked with him on Jag. (NCIS is a spinoff of Jag.) “There was a one-time guest star appearance for a rookie agent. Twenty one seasons in, and NCIS can still come up with surprises for its characters—and the actors as well! Take, for instance, the March 25 episode, in which McGee (Sean Murray) learns about a close relative he was unaware of thanks to DNA results. “I was surprised to find that one out, too,” Murray tells TV Insider. Something tells us it’s the last thing McGee expects when his wife, Delilah (Margo Harshman), starts him on the path. “Delilah is trying to force him to get into a genealogy, track your ancestors down kind of thing, and McGee is sort of anti that at the beginning because he thinks it’s ridiculous,” previews Murray. “And then as soon as he starts, he finds out that he’s got a long-lost relative somewhere, and that freaks him out pretty good. But he goes down that rabbit hole.” Speaking of relatives, what...

A new NCIS: Hawai’i episode features LL Cool J in another important subplot.
LL Cool J continues to play Agent Sam Hanna within the NCIS Universe. The character first appeared in a backdoor pilot on NCIS; moving to NCIS: Los Angeles the following fall.
Sam became a free agent when NCIS: Los Angeles got canceled, and he showed up to save the day in the NCIS: Hawai’i Season 2 finale.
Much of NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3 has featured Sam helping out Jane Tennant and her team in one way or another, all while seemingly having ulterior motives for being on the island.
The downside is that more scenes with LL Cool J have taken time away from other characters. But he has also brought an additional toughness and action feel to the NCIS spin-off.
The first new episode of NCIS: Hawai’i following the latest hiatus will follow that pattern, with...

NCIS is rolling out a new spin-off that brings back some characters from the past.
Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo have signed on to star in a new NCIS drama, allowing them to tell more stories about their fan-favorite characters.
Cote played Agent Ziva David for many years, and she originally left NCIS in Season 11. She would later return for some intense episodes involving Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon).
Michael ended his NCIS run as Agent Anthony Dinozzo in Season 13. The story had him exiting the job to care for a daughter he shared with ZIva. At the time of Dinozzo’s exit, he believed Ziva had died.
Many years have passed since Tony and Ziva shared the screen, but that all will change thanks to a new show that folks are calling NCIS: Europe (not the official name… yet).
