This article contains spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer seasons 1 and 2.
It is a tumultuous time in Hollywood currently. The Writer’s Guild of America has now surpassed 100 days of strike action, and SAG-AFTRA is showing solidarity right beside them. Many television and film productions have been put on hiatus, which begs the question – has The Lincoln Lawyer even been renewed at this juncture?
Ted Humphrey, showrunner for the Netflix hit, confirmed that he and his writing team had already been working on a season 3 before the WGA began their strike action. An official renewal has not been announced, and there may be a delay in production for obvious reasons, but chances still look good we’ll see Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) and his team again. And thanks to the precedent set by the Mickey Haller book series, we have a good idea of what to expect from season 3.

Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer season two’s official trailer shows Mickey being attacked in a parking garage, dealing with the recognition that comes as the result of winning the huge case in season one, and denying he cares about being referred to as the hottest defense attorney in LA.

The lines between Mickey Haller's (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) personal and professional life are poised to blur on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2.
On Wednesday, Netflix unveiled the official trailer for the legal drama's new season, and things are getting more complicated for Mickey.
In the first footage, Mickey finds himself getting close to client and alleged murderer Lisa Trammell (Parrilla), which naturally leads to plenty of drama.
Mickey finds himself trying to prove Lisa's innocence while facing the wrath of the people who think she's committed a crime.
The streaming service is holding plot details under wraps, but the trailer delivers plenty for us to ponder as we await the first half of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2.
That's right, folks. We're getting the first five episodes on Thursday, July 6, and the next five on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Unhealthy sibling relationships on TV reach a new level in "Dead Ringers," which tells the story of identical twin gynecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle. Rachel Weisz takes on the roles of both siblings in her Prime Video remake, which is based on David Cronenberg's 1988 feature of the same name. Elliot is the more outgoing, unhinged twin, while Beverly is more fearful and idealistic. "I genuinely believed - and I know it sounds like I'm half joking - but I thought two people were going to play them because they were just so different," Weisz tells Popsugar of her original thoughts on playing twins.
Of course, she took on both, which adds to the show's hall-of-mirrors quality and also makes its ending all the more disorienting. By the end of the series, the Mantle twins have reached an impasse.

Alice Birch adapts David Cronenberg’s 1988 film “Dead Ringers,” swapping the male twin gynecologists with female ones, exploring the world of womanhood and pregnancy in an intrinsic manner rather than sticking to the concept of “twins” as the original film does. Gory, disturbing, repugnant, chaotic, and sexy are some words that come to mind to describe the six-episode mini-series. This is a fair warning for the squeamish because, along with a lot of blood and body horror, there are many birthing scenes that are rather uncomfortable to watch. Don’t expect to leave anything to your imagination because there is no holding back in “Dead Ringers.” The term “baby sister” will never be the same again.
“Dead Ringers” follows the Mantle twins (Rachel Weisz), Beverley and Elliot (same as in the 1988 film), who are genius gynecologists by profession. Ridiculously, along with sharing a profession, they also share partners—essentially everything in life.

This The Lincoln Lawyer review is spoiler free and is based off of the first full season.
The opening episode of The Lincoln Lawyer sets the tone for the series right away. We see Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), fresh out of a stint in rehab, getting hounded by his assistant/ex-wife Lorna (Becki Newton) to get down to the courthouse because he has a big meeting with Mary Holder (LisaGay Hamilton), the senior judge of Los Angeles County. He’s not prepared for the meeting, doesn’t know what it’s about, but he takes it because he has no other choice and Mickey Haller is smart enough and quick enough to land on his feet no matter what gets thrown at him.
Haller is charming, clever, and a brilliant defense attorney. In other words, he’s the perfect centerpiece for a David E. Kelley-developed hour-long series. Originally a project a CBS,...

The ethics of being a defense attorney aren’t so black and white. So, how does “The Lincoln Lawyer” grapple with defending someone he knows is guilty?
The TV series adaptation of the books by superstar crime fiction author Michael Connelly follows Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as lawyer Mickey Haller, who runs his practice out of a vintage Lincoln Town Car (hence the title).
In this clip from the upcoming Netflix series, exclusive to TheWrap, Garcia-Rulfo’s Haller explains to his daughter Hayley (Krista Warner) that he truly believes everyone deserves the right to a fair trial.
“Everyone deserves a defense, Hayley,” he says.
Like father like daughter, she is quick to push back on that, asking him: “Where do you draw the line? Do you have a line?”
And he does. For example, he tells her, he won’t represent anyone who has hurt a child. But the answer isn’t...

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is taking on a complex case in the first trailer for Netflix’s “The Lincoln Lawyer.”
The TV series adaptation of the books by superstar crime fiction author Michael Connelly follow Garcia-Rulfo as lawyer Mickey Haller, who runs his practice out of a vintage Lincoln Town Car (hence the title).
In the trailer, which you can watch above, Garcia-Rulfo’s Haller has inherited the practice of another hot shot Los Angeles lawyer, including a high profile murder case. While it seems as though his career is only growing, his relationship with his family is getting rocky.
And, of course, it wouldn’t be a legal drama without some mysterious happenings along the way, which usually end up with someone dead.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the Season 4 premiere of “The Chi,” which aired May 23 on Showtime.
In several ways, the third season finale of Showtime’s “The Chi” ended on a hopeful note. Sure, the crooked Otis “Douda” Perry (Curtiss Cook) won the mayoral election and strongarmed Trig (Luke James) in running his mob operations. And yes, Ronnie (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) was shot in belated retaliation for Coogie’s (Jahking Guillory) murder. But there were so many forward-facing happy moments too, from Trig and Imani (Jasmine Davis) stepping up for Jake (Michael Epps), Emmett (Jacob Latimore) and Tiff (Hannaha Hall) getting married, and even Kiesha (Birgundi Baker) beginning to run again — a notable step in her healing after being kidnapped, imprisoned and impregnated via rape in earlier episodes.
But the fourth season premiere flipped a lot of that on its side.

How many relationships could survive a 17 year separation? The huge amounts of time that families often have to wait to be reunited after one member wins asylum in another country do a lot of damage but are rarely discussed - the public focus is always on the notion that everything will be alright once they're together again. Walter (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) and his wife Esther (Zainab Jah) have become completely different people by the time she is able to leave Angola and join him in the US. Their daughter Sylvia (Jayme Lawson) doesn't remember her father at all.
The film opens with Walter's break-up with the woman he has been living with - a woman whose own story we learn very little about. We know that she loves him and doesn't understand, and that he loves her but feels his duty lies with the vows he made all those.

Life gets complicated for an Angolan cab driver in New York when his family arrive to join him after 17 years
In the wake of the Angolan civil war, Walter (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) has spent 17 years in exile in New York, working triple shifts as a cab driver while petitioning to be reunited with wife Esther (Zainab Jah) and daughter Sylvia. Their reunion should be a cause for celebration, but the reality is more complicated, as Walter struggles to untether himself emotionally from Linda (Nana Mensah), a nurse he’s been having a relationship with in his wife’s absence.
There are three sides to every story in Ekwa Msangi’s vivid and carefully observed feature debut, and so she cleverly splits the film into thirds, replaying the action but changing the vantage point with each chapter. This structural device draws attention to the ways the characters continually misunderstand each other,...

Director Ekwa Msangi extends equal sympathy to all the characters in this drama about a family reuniting in New York after many years apart
Tanzanian-American writer-director Ekwa Msangi makes her feature debut with this warmly humane film after an apprenticeship in shorts, and it’s an auspicious start to a career that’s likely to accelerate fast. Judiciously balancing narrational tricksiness with an accessible emotional register, Msangi tells the story of a family of three reunited after a 17-year absence. Husband Walter (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) met his wife Esther (Zainab Jah) when they were both firebrand students back in Angola. But the civil war in their homeland and economic necessity pulled them apart not long after the birth of their daughter Sylvia; Walter headed to Brooklyn, where he spent the years driving a taxi, while Esther took Sylvia to Tanzania for safety, where as a single parent she found support within the local church.

“Farewell Amor” powerfully argues that you can never really go home again, especially when that home was never yours to begin with. In Ekwa Msangi’s feature debut, an immigrant family tries to stitch itself together in New York after decades of separation, with the patriarch Walter (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) an Angolan refugee now comfortably settled in America, and his wife Esther (Zainab Jah) and daughter Sylvia (Jayme Lawson) at his doorstep 17 years later, suddenly adrift in a strange land. Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari made its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year and immediately became the talk of the fest after it won Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. Now, A24 is set to share this moving story with the world — well, in limited release at least. The family drama opens in select theaters for an awards season qualifying run but will open wider on February 12, 2021.
Written and directed by Chung, Minari parallels his life as it tells the story of a Korean-American family that uproots from metropolitan Los Angeles to rural Arkansas to chase the American Dream. Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, Yuh-Jung Youn, Noel Kate Cho and Alan Kim, the film follows the family as the dynamics change in their new household when their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother comes to live with them. A hit on the festival circuit, Tanzanian-American filmmaker Ekwa Msangi’s feature directorial debut “Farewell Amor” tells the story of an Angolan immigrant who, after nearly two decades apart, is joined in the USA by his wife and daughter. Now, however, they are now practically strangers, sharing a one-bedroom apartment in New York City, and struggling to reconnect. Soon they discover a shared love of dance that may help them overcome the distance between them.
Father Walter (played by Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) has not moved on from his lover Linda (Nana Mensah), while his wife Esther (Zainab Jah) has found solace in religion, which doesn’t immediately register with him, although he does want to understand. Meanwhile, Esther and their daughter Sylvia (Jayme Lawson) are struggling to adapt to life in a new country, wondering if all the fracas that was involved in making the trip to the United States was worth the effort.

While my first day of the 56th Chicago International Film Festival brought four scripted movies, day two had a bit more variety on that front. Yes, Thursday threw two documentaries into the mix. If there’s one thing that sticks out about a virtual festival compared to a traditional one, it’s the lack of a clear schedule. Screeners reign just as much as chaos does. God knows what I’ll end up with, and I thrive on that. Well, I do if what I end up seeing is more of a smörgåsbord than a game of Russian roulette. Luckily, it was the former, and it was bizarrely consistent.
Does that mean it was all happy? Absolutely not. First for the day was R.J. Cutler’s Belushi (Grade: B-), which held its world premiere at the festival Wednesday night. For a look at the life of John Belushi, it’s a fittingly brisk one.

Showtime has ordered a fourth season of the Lena Waithe-created drama The Chi.
“Each season, The Chi’s authentic storytelling resonates more deeply with its devoted and growing audiences,” said Gary Levine, President of Entertainment at Showtime Networks. “Lena Waithe together with Justin Hillian explore the joys and the heartbreak of life on the South Side in a way that is unique on television, and we relish the prospect of continuing that exploration with them.”
