In 1973, Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia fulfilled a longtime dream when he formed the bluegrass supergroup known as Old & In the Way. For the rock & roller, circling back to his acoustic roots was more than just scratching a creative itch — it was a spiritual calling.
“It was something that was organic and fun,” Peter Rowan, singer, songwriter, and former Oitw guitarist, tells Rolling Stone. “And that evolved into playing [shows]. ‘Let’s take this outside.’”

Contains some plot details for Heartstopper season two but no real spoilers.
Despite featuring no superheroes, superpowers or elaborate plans to destroy Gotham City, Heartstopper was one of 2022’s most anticipated comic book adaptations, and its second season – out now on Netflix – was no different. Alice Oseman’s webcomic about two British high school boys who fall in love has an extremely devoted fanbase who only have to see a drawing of falling leaves – Charlie and Nick’s romantic motif – to spill over with excitement.
The Netflix show, written and produced by Oseman, was such a hit that it was immediately renewed for seasons two and three, meaning fans could follow the on-screen stories of beloved characters Elle, Tao, Tara, Darcy and Isaac, alongside those of Nick and Charlie, past their Gcse year and beyond.

The official trailer for “Heartstopper” Season 2 is out, and we’re already getting butterflies.
The second season of the YA romance series, which launches its eight-episode season Aug. 3 on Netflix, picks up as the whirlwind romance between Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) continues to blossom. They don’t have it all figured out yet, though, and Nick struggles with figuring out when he wants to come out.
“I want to tell people,” Nick tells Charlie in the trailer. “It’s hard to find the right time.”
“I want you to come out when and how you want to,” Charlie assures him.
And it’s not just Nick and Charlie falling for each other. Love is in the air through the whole “Heartstopper” world, with Tao (William Gao) realizing his romantic feelings for Elle (Yasmin Finney) — who secretly reciprocates them (though she hasn’t told him that yet). Tara...

Say “hi,” everybody. Netflix on Thursday announced not only that Heartstopper had begun production on Season 2 but that four actors had been added to the cast of the utterly enchanting teen romance. (And we don’t use the word “enchanting” lightly; see here.)
First up among the newbies is Leila Khan, who’ll be making her professional acting debut after winning the role of Higgs student Sahar Zahid in an open casting call. Bradley Riches, who played a Truham student in Season 1, will again be playing a Truham student in Season 2, only now said student will have a name: James McEwan.

Here are a few bits of trivia about the beloved family sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.” It ran 14 seasons from 1952-66, a record until Fxx’s “It Always Sunny in Philadelphia” kicked off its 15th season last year. But “Philadelphia” has only aired 162 episodes compared to a whopping 435 for “Ozzie and Harriet.”
Despite the fact it aired 14 years, the series only cracked the top 30 in its 11th season where it came in 29th place. The exterior shots were actually of the Nelsons’ real home at 1822 Camino Palmero Street in L.A. (it recently sold for 5.9 million) and the interiors were recreations of their own home. Though the TV Ozzie didn’t seem to have a job, the real-life Ozzie starred, produced, co-wrote and directed “Ozzie and Harriet.”
Topics were far from controversial. There was a whole episode revolving around the fact that a local store delivered new chairs that they hadn’t ordered.

Late one night, a young couple are brutally murdered at a make-out spot by an unseen assailant, their bodies tossed into the nearby river. As the lifeless lovers drift slowly downstream, the residents of the town excitedly prepare themselves for their annual carnival, unaware that a machete-wielding maniac with a twisted grudge is lurking in their midst. A few years before his death last September, longtime Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter partook of one of his usual traditions. He emailed a bunch of fresh lyrics to one of his post–Jerry Garcia songwriting collaborators and asked if that artist wanted to set the words to music. That year, the recipient was David Nelson, who had known Hunter and Garcia since their days playing bluegrass together in the early Sixties, years before the Dead.

Owsley Stanley was known as the foremost underground LSD chemist of the 1960s. But he was also an exacting pioneer of live concert sound, a man who helped invent both monitor systems and high-fidelity amplification. When he died in 2011 at the age of 76, Stanley left behind a breathtaking array of some 1,300 reels amassed between 1966 and 1982. Buried inside are lost concerts by legends like Johnny Cash, Fleetwood Mac, Tim Buckley, and dozens of others, alongside the San Francisco psychedelic bands Stanley is most often associated with, such as the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane.

How does Hollywood sell a gritty, realistic western? With a sexy shot of star Tina Louise! Viewers will be surprised: this fine western is a showcase for the elemental ruthlessness we associate with director André de Toth — its convincing snowbound setting is so intense, we can almost feel the cold. Slick writer Philip Yordan sets up an impossible conflict as a blizzard moves in on a tiny town… Robert Ryan must sort out his feelings for the town beauty Tina Louise, as he negotiates with the he-boss of the killer crooks, Burl Ives. It looks as if Ryan has no choice but to volunteer for a suicide journey — but nature has the last word.

Did that really just happen? A free-flowing Newcastle United scored six on a glorious afternoon at St James’ Park.
Four goals from Georginio Wijnaldum, and one a piece from Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic saw Newcastle romp home after Norwich gave them a couple of nervous moments in the first half.
United started on the front foot early on with Moussa Sissoko – who has been made to look ever so slightly delusional by his Champions League related comments in recent times – was at the forefront of all things good for Steve McClaren’s men. He was tireless and popped up all over the shop, dragging his teammates up the park on numerous occasions. Norwich were restricted to a couple of dangerous set pieces, which Rob Elliot dealt with easily, and a 30-yard Robbie Brady strike.

He was tireless and popped up all over the shop, dragging his teammates up the park on numerous occasions. Norwich were restricted to a couple of dangerous set pieces, which Rob Elliot dealt with easily, and a 30-yard Robbie Brady strike.
United took the lead on 14 minutes after more great work from...

Newcastle United’s crucial fixture against West Ham on the 24th May marked the end of John Carver’s Magpies career but it also signified a new era on Tyneside. Managerial changes are common in football but it’s rare that you have to reinstate supporters’ faith, confidence and enjoyment of watching the beautiful game over a three month period.
Has Mike Ashley done that? To an extent he probably has. The owner’s perturbing interview with Sky Sports prior to the fateful ‘Survival Sunday’ outlined Ashley’s normally-muted intentions and sent shivers through fans’ chests as the shrewd businessman declared he wasn’t going anywhere until Newcastle had won a trophy.
‘That’s that then’, most fans sulked as they prepared to die with Ashley at the helm. But the owner for once reacted to the criticisms that questioned the club’s philosophy and ambition.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly made a £15 million deadline bid for Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez but the striker is focused on improving at the Magpies.
The club swiftly confirmed that any link with Spurs or “anyone else” was “total rubbish” and that Perez will be staying put on Tyneside.
The Spanish forward scored seven Premier goals last season after moving from Tenerife for just £1.5 million. Originally signed for the future, Perez broke into Alan Pardew first team set up and made 37 league appearances for the club.
The 22-year-old is hoping to improve this season and continue to develop at Newcastle and described his time at the club as “like a dream”.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, the player said:
“It’s harder because I had a good season last year, and I have to keep going and improve and maybe do better if I can.

Newcastle United midfielder Haris Vuckic has signed a new contract at Newcastle United but will be loaned out to Wigan Athletic for the remainder of the current season, according to Sky Sports.
Vuckic was impressive during his loan spell at Rangers in the Scottish Championship last season and was linked with Greek champions Olympiakos during the summer.

Steve McClaren finally has his first victory as Newcastle United head coach, although not in the Barclays Premier League. Irrespective of the fact it was against League Two opposition, the Magpies’ comfortable 4-1 Capital One Cup Second-Round win over Northampton Town on Tuesday night was extremely significant.
Now McClaren is looking for his opening Premier League victory as Toon boss. So far in the league this season, Newcastle have drawn 2-2 at home to Southampton, been soundly beaten 2-0 away at Swansea City, and earned a hard-fought point via a goalless draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
However, the Magpies face one of their bogey teams next in the league, with Arsenal visiting St James’ Park on Saturday lunchtime (12.45pm kick-off).
The Gunners themselves have had a somewhat disappointing start to the campaign, with Arsene Wenger’s men claiming just four points from their opening...

Siem de Jong admits he feels “a bit like a new signing” himself at Newcastle United this season following the “toughest” campaign of his career in 2014-15.
The former Ajax attacking-midfielder suffered an injured-plagued debut campaign on Tyneside and made just a handful of appearances last season, but he made a goal-scoring return to the Magpies’ starting line-up on Tuesday night.
De Jong glanced a Florian Thauvin free-kick into the back of the net in the eighth minute of the game at St James’ Park to score Newcastle’s second as they coasted to a 4-1 Capital One Cup Second-Round victory over Northampton Town.

And the 26-year-old admitted life under Steve McClaren feels like a “new start” at Newcastle.
Quoted in the Daily Star, De Jong said:

Hitc Sport claim that Gouffran’s former side Bordeaux are “one of a number of clubs in France” who are monitoring the 29-year-old’s situation, while also suggesting that several Barclays Premier League and Championship sides are interested.

Rob Lee believes some players have “struggled to adapt to the pace of life” in the Barclays Premier League due to the short intervals between fixtures – but insists Newcastle United squad must get used to that if they want to end the club’s 47-year trophy drought.

Steve McClaren has said that Florian Thauvin will start against Northampton Town tonight as Newcastle embark on their Capital One Cup campaign.
The Magpies’ boss also hinted that Siem de Jong could be named in the first team and said that he “should be chomping at the bit to play.”

The Toon boss said:

Siem de Jong is in contention to return for Newcastle United at Old Trafford this weekend – and Steve McClaren believes the attacking-midfielder can be a “big weapon” for the Magpies going forward.

AC Milan “enquired” about the availability of Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko before making a move for Roberto Soriano, according to a Sky Sports Italia reporter.
Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the Serie A side asked the Magpies how much Sissoko would cost, and that Newcastle responded with £15.5 million (€22 million).
Although that fee appears lower than Newcastle would likely ask for their 26-year-old French international midfielder, it appears as if Milan have instead turned their attention to Sampdoria’s Soriano anyway.

Barcelona’s Rafinha is also cited in the article as another player Milan took a look at before opting to move for Soriano.
Earlier this month, The Shields Gazette claimed that Newcastle are even looking to offer Sissoko a contract extension in order to keep the Frenchman at St James’ Park long term, suggesting this report from Di Marzio is likely to be a little wide of the mark.

Scouts from Burnley and Wigan Athletic watched Newcastle United duo Kevin Mbabu and Gael Bigirimana in action, a report claims.
The Chronicle suggests that two Football League clubs sent representatives to watch the pair, who it is claimed “are available for transfer”, in action for the Magpies’ Under-21 side during the 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Whitley Park on Monday night.
Magpies head coach Steve McClaren and managing director Lee Charnley were also in attendance as Ivan Toney made his home debut for the Under-21s – and it is believed both Bigirimana and Mbabu could leave before the transfer window shuts.

Defensive-midfielder Bigirimana signed for Newcastle from Coventry City back in July 2012 and, despite making 13 Premier League appearances and netting once, his progress stagnated due to loss of form and injury.

Remy Cabella’s move to Marseille looks set to be a permanent deal and not a loan, with The Chronicle reporting that the playmaker will depart Newcastle United for £8 million.
That fee will also be deducted for the Magpies’ financial package for Florian Thauvin – which is believed to be somewhere in the region of £12 million-£14 million.
In conflicting reports, it has also been suggested that Cabella would head to Ligue 1 temporarily on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move after. What’s clear, however, is that the Magpies are keen to use Cabella as a makeweight in any deal.

Remy Cabella is set to join Marseille on loan after the Ligue 1 side agreed a deal to take the playmaker to France, according to reports.
Get French Football claim that Rmc are reporting that Cabella will move to France on a season-long loan deal and that Marseille will have an option to sign the midfielder for just £5.7 million (€8 million) next summer.
It is likely that this move will help to initiate Florian Thauvin’s transfer to Tyneside, with Rmc also having reported on Tuesday morning that the Magpies had agreed a £12 million plus-Cabella-on-loan deal for the winger.
Newcastle & Marseille have reached an agreement now for the loan of Rémy Cabella with a €8m buy-out option, according to Rmc. More to come.

Haris Vuckic has confirmed that he’s leaving Newcastle United this summer – with the midfielder revealing Steve McClaren told him it was the “best way” for both parties if he moved on.
The 22-year-old stated last month that he wanted to be given one last opportunity to impress at St James’ Park, but McClaren has told Vuckic he does not feature in the Magpies’ plans going forward.
Hitc Sport claimed that Vuckic has a whole host of options, however – with Rangers competing with Championship sides Hull City, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley and Bristol City for the attacking-midfielder’s signature.

Quoted in Slovenian media (and re-produced in the Chronicle), Vuckic said:
“It’s true, I’m going. I spoke with the coach who did not see me in his plans, so we all together decided that (was) the best way for me.
“I respect...

Florian Thauvin is “surely aware” that he is leaving Marseille for Newcastle United, according to Rmc.
The French publication report that the Magpies are close to completing a £12 million move for the winger, with Remy Cabella also heading to Ligue 1 on loan, and that the 22-year-old now knows his future lies on Tyneside and not in Ligue 1.
Rmc report that the Magpies’ offer of £12 million (€17 million) up front, plus Cabella on a season-long loan, was labelled “not refusable” by Marseille sources.
David Nelson Sports Photography
It is claimed that Marseille’s president Vincent Labrune was even pictured talking to Thauvin after Marseille’s1-0 loss to Reims at the weekend, supposedly explaining to the winger that the bid is “too good to turn down”.
Any deal for Thauvin would take United’s spending past the £50 million mark.

Former Newcastle United head coach John Carver thinks new £13 million signing Aleksandar Mitrovic is stylistically the closest striker The Magpies have had to Alan Shearer since the club’s record goal scorer retired nine years ago.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Goals On Sunday, the former United gaffer was full of praise for the former Anderlecht man but did see some disciplinary problems in his future.
Carver said: “He’s an old-fashioned centre-forward & he’s the nearest thing we’ve had to Alan Shearer since Alan Shearer.”
This is spectacular praise indeed for Mitrovic when you consider some of the strikers United have had in their ranks since Shearer decided to call it a day in 2006.
Demba Ba and Loic Remy were fantastic in their own right for The Toon during their respective spells at St James’ Park – but neither were really the sort of physical ‘number...

Swansea City boss Garry Monk has been a “breath of fresh air” for the Barclays Premier League, believes Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren.
The 36-year-old took over as Swans manager in February 2014 after being promoted from the club’s playing staff, succeeding Michael Laudrup, and he led the Welsh side to an eighth-place finish during his first full season in charge last time out, something McClaren described as “very, very impressive”.
McClaren was effusive in his praise of his Premier League counterpart – as well as for Swansea’s chairman and the club itself for putting faith in their young boss.
