While it’s easy to imagine lawyers screaming “objection, your honor!” to the exaggerated courtroom theatrics of “The Burial,” good luck convincing audiences that this David v. Goliath legal showdown between a small-time Southern funeral home operator and an unethical Canadian billionaire should have played out any other way. Demonstrating talents far beyond her 2017 indie debut, “The Novitiate,” director Maggie Betts has a rousing old-school crowd-pleaser on her hands with this truth-based (albeit strategically embellished) drama featuring the most entertaining performance yet from Jamie Foxx, who makes a day in court feel like going to church.
Foxx plays Willie E. Gary, a Southern Baptist personal injury lawyer who channels the spirit of evangelical preachers every time he practices law — hardly the counsel you’d expect to see representing Jeremiah “Jerry” O’Keefe (Tommy Lee Jones), a 75-year-old business owner in Biloxi, Miss. But then, that unlikely partnership between a charismatic...

We have the first trailer for you to check out from the film Semper Fi, from writer and director Henry Alex Rubin (Murderball) and co-writer Sean Mullin (Amira & Sam). "I didn't need you to be my dad, I just needed you to be my brother." Lionsgate has released a trailer for a film titled Semper Fi, originally called Edge of Dawn while in development. The title is a reference to the Marine Corps slogan "semper fi" (in full: semper fidelis), which means "always loyal". The plot is about a police officer who serves in the Marine Corps Reserves who is faced with an ethical dilemma when it comes to helping his brother in prison. Jai Courtney stars as the "by-the-book" officer Cal, and Nat Wolff plays his brother. Also starring Leighton Meester, Finn Wittrock, Arturo Castro, Beau Knapp, Rachel Hendrix, Wayne Pére, Ashton Leigh, Sylvia Grace Crim, Lance E. Nichols, and Rob Mello. This has an interesting premise that plays on morals, but it doesn't seem like this has much to offer besides that. Here's the official trailer for...

“Mara” opens with some dubious statistics fudged to imply that about one-third of the world’s population thinks they’ve been “attacked by a demonic entity.” That, unfortunately, sets the tone for a generically conceived horror thriller distinguished only by its belief that more hysteria equals a more frightening movie.
There’s certainly a lot of yelling and screaming here, but chills diminish rather than increase as a result. However, those experiencing vitamin deficiencies over underexposure to ham acting and jump scares may find relief from the film’s Sept. 7 release to VOD, Digital HD and a few theaters.
Forensic psychologist Kate (Olga Kurylenko) is called by police to the scene of a murder —housewife Helena (Rosie Fellner) is suspected of killing her husband, found contorted in agony right next to her in bed. But she claims a “sleep demon” did it, and when little daughter Sophie (Mackenzie Imsand) is asked “Who hurt daddy?...

"In the end, defend." Orion Pictures has released the first trailer for a horror film titled The Domestics, which seems to borrow plenty from The Purge. Here's the pitch for this one: in a terrifying post-apocalyptic world inhabited by gangs divided into deadly factions, a husband & wife race desperately across the country in search of safety. Kate Bosworth and Tyler Hoechlin star, with Sonoya Mizuno, Lance Reddick, David Dastmalchian, Dana Gourrier, Laura Cayouette, Lance E. Nichols, and Jeff Chase. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm a bit tired of these brutal horror films where everyone is out to murder and torture each other. Give me something more original than that, please. Treme isn’t about plot, in the traditional sense. There was barely any of it in the first season and in the second season premiere, “Accentuate The Positive”, there isn’t that much of it either. Instead, we get a peek into what everyone is doing fourteen months after Hurricane Katrina. Characters pop up for a scene and two but that’s just fine. The wheels are in motions for another methodically scripted season about good music, good food, a good atmosphere, and how the good people of New Orleans persevere. The only way to review this episode is by giving everyone a rundown of their favorite Treme residents:
Albert Lambreaux (Clarke Peters) and Delmond Lambreaux (Rob Brown): Though father and son are in different cities, they both have similar journeys. The owner of the bar Albert has been squatting and practicing in as returned which means Albert needs to look for another home.

Some things have changed -- for one, he can no longer smoke in Patrick’s (Lance E. Nichols) restaurant because City Hall has taken to telling businesses what to do. (Ah, once again, smoking is used to represent individual freedom.) One thing has not changed, people have not forgotten what they believe Jacob did ten years ago; as Jacob explains, this is a place where “rumors are truths, accusations are facts.” Heck, even his own mother (Cindy Hogan) believes that he is guilty. Whatever horrible and unforgettable thing Jacob did ten years ago,...

Mirrors 2 Concept PosterThe plotline for Mirrors 2 is almost identical to the first with a nightwatchman guarding the remains of the Mayflower Department Store. Thankfully, some subplots have been introduced, as this latest watchman, played by Nick Stahl (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), is attempting to recover from a tragic accident, which left his wife dead, by returning to the work force (Uhm). Except, a haunted department store is not a great place for recovery. This sequel will to straight to DVD October 19th, 2010 and this latest in the series was directed by Victor Garcia (Return to House on Haunted Hill). Have a watch of the first trailer for Mirrors 2, courtesy of Dread Central.

Everyone knows Kristen Stewart, if you don't, you're a hermit living in a cave and have never heard of the "Twilight" franchise. Some like her, some love her and, certainly somewhere, some dislike her for whatever reason that may be. That comes with the territory. Still, in "Welcome to the Rileys," Stewart looks to have turned in what could be her most powerful performance, shining away from the overseen Stephenie Meyer-adapted flicks. James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo also star in this moving drama helmed by Jake Scott (2004's "Tooth Fairy" horror). Penned by Ken Hixon, the film was nominee for the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Other cast members include Lance E. Nichols, David Jensen, Kathy Lamkin, Tiffany Coty and Michael Wozniak.
