Long before the Avengers assembled together in the culmination of the greatest phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a multi-billion superhero franchise that has dominated pop culture discourse for decades, the Robert Downey Jr.-starring "Iron Man" kickstarted the studio's shared universe of films in 2008. Downey Jr. was initially perceived as a controversial choice for "Iron Man" — but the actor's past legal troubles didn't negatively influence director Jon Favreau, who fought tooth and nail to make it happen.
The film was released, Downey Jr.'s performance was commended, to say the least, and a franchise was born. The actor reprised his role in two sequels and has played Tony Stark/Iron Man in a total of 10 films while steadily being at the center of the MCU throughout. Downey Jr. has since been a part of many critically-acclaimed films, but the most loved films in his career spanning decades are the...

The House of Representin’ was reopened at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, as Terry Crews resurrected one of his most famous roles, President Camacho from the cult comedy “Idiocracy,” to announce a party for a fake presidential campaign in 2024.
Back in 2006, Crews appeared in Mike Judge’s comedy about Joe Bauers, an Army corporal deemed the “most average person in the military,” whom along with a sex worker named Rita are selected for a military cryogenic experiment.
When the experiment is forgotten about, the two wake up in the year 2534, where the human race has dumbed itself down to the point that society has collapsed into a barely functioning dystopia on the verge of collapse. With the average Joe now the smartest man on the planet, President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho hires him to his cabinet to solve a drought that is killing America’s food supply.

Scream VI is now in theaters. It brings with it a love letter to the entire Scream franchise. With a shift from California, we settle with our remaining characters in New York City to gain a new experience for Ghostface to stalk victims. The film is jam-packed with fun references to other parts of the Scream franchise and other horror films in general. What Scream VI easter eggs did you possibly miss?
WArning!!!!! There will be spoilers for Scream VI and possibly other entries in the Scream Series.

Even before the days of Marvel's Cinematic Universe or its equivalent in DC, the relationship between film, television, and comics was a pretty symbiotic one. Just as film and TV are now majorly informed by comics, comic artists have taken inspiration from film and TV — especially when it comes to the design for certain characters. "Batman: Year One" artist David Mazzucchelli famously modeled his Bruce Wayne on "Roman Holiday" star Gregory Peck. Another less-subtle reference to a famous face — and one of my personal favorites — came in 2016's "Invincible Iron Man": artist Mike Deodato Jr. modeled his Tony Stark off Santiago Cabrebra, of "The Musketeers" and "Star Trek: Picard" fame.
Sometimes, though, the inspiration is equal parts thematic as it is aesthetic. On occasion, an episode of television can even inspire a shift in a narrative arc, a fresh conflict, or even a brand new character. Such was the case for Brian Michael Bendis,...

The animated Marvel series "What If...?" for Disney+ is a fascinating concept for fans of the superhero multiverse. Thanks to powers that defy all laws of physics, time, and space, there are endless directions that Marvel could take for any number of their stories. Of course, the events presented in the Marvel Cinematic Universe phases are considered canon, but "What If...?" takes all of the hypothetical questions fans debate amongst one another and bring to life what would have happened had the canonical events taken a different direction. The first season explored theoretical questions like "What if Captain Carter was the first Avenger?" or "What if Killmonger rescued Tony Stark?"
Ahead of its premiere, Marvel has announced "What If...?" season 2 will introduce a brand-new superhero named Kahhori, created specifically for the show. Unlike most of the heroes in the MCU, Kahhori has no comic book origins, which makes her inclusion even more special.

Unless you’re Martin Scorsese, chances are you’ve probably sat down for a Marvel movie and enjoyed it. Whether it be the formative days of 2012’s The Avengers, the bombastic action of Avengers: Endgame, or anything between or since, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has touched all corners of the industry… even the Academy Awards.
As MCU overlord Kevin Feige tries to add those golden statues to his own Infinity Gauntlet of awards, we’ve seen an uptick in “For Your Consideration” nods. While Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther is the only MCU movie to win an Academy Award, eyes are now on Wakanda Forever and Angela Bassett’s Best Supporting Actress nomination in 2023.

James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" films (as well as the accompanying "Holiday Special") have greatly expanded the narrative possibilities of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Audiences have been treated to countless characters, creatures, and worlds, all of which have been delivered with Gunn's signature combination of imagination and wit. Of course, as wild and fresh as the cosmic elements of the MCU are, there's been no shortage of heart. Gunn was given the unenviable task of making us care about a cadre of characters including a sentient tree and a foul-mouthed raccoon and pulled it off with flying colors. With the writer and director moving over to lead DC Studios, fans can't help but wonder about the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy and their unique place in the MCU.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves its surprises. Highly anticipated post-credits scenes tease future appearances and adventures, while twists and reveals in the movies themselves either work as standard, or inform how you approach upcoming projects in the ever-expanding franchise. As characters evolve and motivations take shape, these tactics also combine to give past MCU films a new spin. And because Marvel now has so many blockbusters under its belt, its reveals often operate in a unique, interconnected way that don’t always comply with “the rules.” Just like the comics!
We’re looking back at some of the best and worst twists and turns the MCU has offered fans to date, and digging a little deeper into what did (or didn’t) make them work, from 2008’s Iron Man to 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

There’s the standard holiday movie-watching fare of A Christmas Story, Home Alone and Christmas Vacation, but why not settle in this year with a Shane Black movie? After all, Shane Black seems to always be wanting to get you in the Christmas spirit!
In a recent interview with Empire, Shane Black discussed how he fell into the Winter Wonderland and why he incorporates Christmas into nearly all of his movies. It’s been reported before that Black’s reliance on Christmas comes from the 1975 political thriller Three Days of the Condor. On using Christmas in his movies, Shane Black said, “You can wield Christmas in so many different ways…It can be used as this unifier, where you see the beauty of a city decked out in Christmas splendour, or you can use it as this bleak landscape against which those same festive decorations seem to belie something else,...

Shield seemed so cool at first. Well, that’s not strictly true. When Agent Phil Coulson sheepishly arrived in Iron Man, babbling about the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division, he just seemed like one more nerd for Tony Stark to dunk on. But when Nick Fury showed up in Stark’s penthouse to talk about the Avengers Initiative for the first post-credit sequence of the MCU, it seemed like Shield operated in a world deeper and more secret than we had imagined.
To be sure, some moments in the MCU backed up that appearance. In The Avengers, we saw Shield’s massive underground bunker, in which it experimented on the Tesseract. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Project Insight gave Shield the ability to rain death from above on any target it chooses. Of course, The Winter Soldier also revealed that Hydra had infiltrated the organization, which ultimately...

Disney's D23 Expo is happening this weekend for the first time in three years and the Mouse House made sure to bring the goods. During the massive studio presentation today, Marvel Studios laid out much of what's to come in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond. That includes a first look at the long-awaited "Ironheart" series for Disney+, which will bring Riri Williams to the fold for a solo adventure. Dominique Thorne will make her debut in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" later this year. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves.
Our very own Ethan Anderton is on hand at D23 on the ground to bring us all the juicy details that Marvel is keeping under lock and key for the time being. And they offered a first taste of what we're in for with the show, and it will see magic going up against technology for...

This year’s Disney Legends panel felt different than it did three years ago, when “Iron Man” himself, Tony Stark, admitted to smoking pot at Disneyland. With three years removed from the event due to Covid, and the awareness that several prominent actors were being given Disney Legend status, the air felt charged for anything.
And after several happy speeches from the likes of “Frozen” actresses Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, and inspirational moments like “Black-ish” actress Tracee Ellis Ross discussing the significance of her ABC series, the final Legend was met with utter appreciation and reverence. The late Chadwick Boseman was honored with the award, and his brother Derrick sought to remind the audience that the honor of Disney Legend status went deeper than anyone could have expected. The “Black Panther” star was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in 2016 and died in 2020 at the age of 43.

Picking a favorite Marvel character can feel like navigating a fandom minefield. Any of the original Avengers, from Tony Stark to Steve Rogers to Natasha Romanoff, come with their own set of baggage, while some of the best new characters remain as-yet unproven as large-scale heroes. But if there's one major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who is capable of side-stepping all drama and scrutiny, inevitably landing near the top of fans' best character lists, it's Groot. Groot is cute. Groot is helpful. Groot loves to say "I am Groot." He's a trusty, sassy companion and a hero in his own right. He's also a sentient tree.
The character, who is voiced by Vin Diesel, has gone through more design changes than most of his fellow Avengers. At the end of the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film in 2014, Groot sacrificed himself to save Starlord (Chris Pratt), Rocket (Bradley Cooper...

The fifth season finale of "Rick and Morty" concluded with a game-changing scenario. The episode entitled "Rickmurai Jack" saw the return of Evil Morty and the Citadel of Ricks, both of which were introduced all the way back in the first season in "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind." Evil Morty took over the Citadel of Ricks in the season 3 episode "The Ricklantis Mixup," and in the fifth season finale, Evil Morty revealed that the multiverse, as we've experienced it in "Rick and Morty" thus far, isn't quite as expansive as we think.
Instead, the various universes that Rick and Morty (both voiced by series co-creator Justin Roiland) have visited throughout the first five seasons were only those that exist within a barrier referred to as the "Central Infinite Curve," or as Evil Morty described it, "One infinite crib around an infinite f**king baby." With his old-school clothing and uber cool hairstyle, Paul Bettany's Vision oozed serious hot dad energy (despite being a confused synthezoid most of the time) in "WandaVision." The character's evolution in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been worth watching; he went from being a voice in Tony Stark's armor to becoming a real-life synthezoid and a fully formed superhero that was born in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
Like with any other MCU character, bringing Vision to life took time and effort from the creative team at Marvel Studios, who are known to create hundreds of different versions of a character before narrowing down on one. A lot of discussions transpired about how Vision would be developed and how his first appearance in "Age of Ultron" could be conceived. Joss Whedon, who was at the helm for the film, decided he wanted to see more of Vision ... and not in the best way possible.

In 1993, audiences were charmed by Robin Williams in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” emotionally stirred by horror and heroism in “Schindler’s List” and reassured that true love exists after checking out “Sleepless in Seattle.”
But there’s no denying that the movie of the year, at least in terms of sheer box office impact, was “Jurassic Park,” Steven Spielberg’s epic story of dinosaurs gone rogue.
Thanks to stunning CGI advancements and quality storytelling to match, “Jurassic Park” became a sensation that changed cinema by revealing the potential of digital imagery. If Spielberg could bring a Tyrannosaurus rex back from extinction… what else was possible?
It also became the highest grossing movie ever made, at least until “Titanic” sailed past it four years later. In many ways, “Jurassic Park” helped to usher in a new era at the movies by accelerating Hollywood’s dive into fantasy, comic book adventures and an adherence towards spectacle above all else.

Teenagers are naturally reckless, even the most well-meaning among them. When you add in superpowers, the results may be disastrous.
