- She was so impressed with Susan Boyle's star-making performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" on Britain's Got Talent (2009) that she offered her support, and was flattered that she was her role model. She was so impressed with Boyle they later sang a duet.

- She was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1995 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to musical theatre.
- Elaine is credited with originating the role of "Grizabella, the Glamour Cat" in the original West End production of "Cats". However, the role was originally cast with Dame Judi Dench, who tore her Achilles tendon during rehearsals. Elaine had approximately two weeks to rehearse with the cast before opening night.
