Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley, David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future and Danis Goulet’s Night Raiders lead nominees for the upcoming Dgc Awards with three each.
The Directors of Guild of Canada unveiled nominations for its 21st Dgc Awards on Nov. 5 on Friday. Del Toro, who shot Nightmare Alley mostly in and around Toronto, did not receive a nomination for best feature film direction.
But del Toro’s tribute to the film noir genre, which starred Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett, did earn Oscar-nominated production designer Tamara Deverell a Dgc Awards nod in the same category, Cam McLauchlin a nomination for feature best picture editing, and best sound editing nominations for Nathan Robitaille, Jill Purdy, Dashen Naidoo, Josh Brown, Nelson Ferreira, Kayla Stewart, Craig MacLellan and Kevin Banks.

They defeated It when they were kids, but the Losers' Club will have to face the ancient entity again as adults in It: Chapter Two, and following recent potential casting reveals for the sequel, a new cinematographer is reportedly on board for the anticipated film.
Collider reports that Checco Varese will be the cinematographer for It: Chapter Two. Chung-hoon Chung served as the director of photography on the first It film, but as Collider points out, director Andy Muschietti could be looking for a different visual style in the sequel, which will take place around 27 years after the 1989-set first film, with the Losers' Club inevitably returning to their hometown of Derry to face the return of It, aka Pennywise. When he came aboard the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s acclaimed story of seven kids who band together to destroy an evil force that has taken over their small town, director Andy Muschietti had a Herculean task ahead of him with It. Beyond just the fact that fans’ expectations for this project have been at an all-time high ever since the new movie was announced, there was also a wealth of material to contend with in the book that needed to somehow be distilled into a runtime of a little over two hours, and Muschietti also had to find a group of young actors that could contend with weighty themes far beyond their years as well as a versatile actor that could bring a new iteration of Pennywise to life.
To get all these elements to come together successfully is the very definition of challenging, and yet, somehow Muschietti...

"Derry's not like any town I've ever been in before. People die or disappear six times the national average. And that's just grown-ups. Kids are worse... way, way worse." Ancient, evil, and looking for new victims, Pennywise the clown stalks the young residents of Derry in New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. The new movie version of Stephen King's It will be a 15, and well over two hours long...
Good news for fans of Stephen King's classic 1986 horror novel It: the movie version doesn't look like it'll skimp on the extensive plot that follows Bill and the rest of his childhood friends as they seek to end the terrifying reign of Pennywise the Clown in their small town of Derry, Maine.
The BBFC have slapped It with a 15 certificate, which was certainly expected from the disturbing trailers we've had so far for the film, and it'll be 134 minutes long, so you're in for a bit of a sit down when it arrives in cinemas next month. You can also expect "strong horror, violence and language." The film was passed uncut.

Nothing is more frustrating than watching a film with so much potential make one disastrous mistake after another. That, sadly, is the disappointing reality of Lee Toland Kreiger's "The Age of Adaline." The movie's premise is easy to grasp: 29-year-old Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) was born at the turn of the century, but after a strange car accident in the 1930's she discovers she will not age a single day more. Decades pass as her daughter ages beyond her, and she begins taking false identities to avoid being discovered by the press or, worse, government agents who might have suspicions about her status. The latter might also want to make her a guinea pig to discover why she's become immortal (a story tangent the film quickly abandons). By 2014, Bowman seems resigned to a life of loneliness until Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman of "Game of Thrones") spots her across the room...

Rise of the Planet of the Apes could be something special. I still believe that, and that’s the general idea I got when I visited the set in Vancouver a few months ago, checking in on production of what was then called only “Caesar” before they switched gears in production and started shooting a lot in an ape sanctuary built by production designer Claude Pare (Night at the Museum, currently Underworld 4) on an interior sound stage. Right now, we’re in the production office and Claude is taking us around the room, showing off some of the very concept art paintings everyone got to see yesterday in the live broadcast event, and everywhere are two logos: one for GenSys (GenSys = Genisis...yeah, not off to a clever start here), the fake bio-research company that James Franco’s scientist character, Will, works for and a Circle with a vertical diamond inside of it.

Jay was most recently in the movie The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, but you would also recognize him from hit movies like Million Dollar Baby, Knocked Up, How to Train Your Dragon, and She’s Out of My League. While Denis Villeneuve's Incendies lost out in its Best Foreign Picture bid, but in what constitutes a nice consolation prize, the film picked up a total of eight awards, including Best Motion Picture, Achievement in Direction, Adapted Screenplay (both going to Villeneuve), and Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role which goes to versatile thesp Lubna Azabal at the Canadian Oscars otherwise known as The Genie Awards. The other big winner of the evening was Barney's Version -- it picked up seven awards (three in the acting departments and costume and make-up kudos). Xavier Dolan's sophomore film Heartbeats went zero for four - but that was to be expected when you measure it up to Incendies. This sunday are French Canada's Oscars (the Jutra awards) - and Villeneuve should will undoubtedly continue his winning streak. Here are all the winners/categories. Chicago – Working with high level actors such as Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman didn’t faze director Richard J. Lewis. He had pursued the film version of the Mordecai Richler’s novel “Barney’s Version” for several years, and it was his direction that recently got Giamatti (as Barney) the Golden Globe Award.
Lewis is a veteran of television, serving as a producer on the seminal police drama “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” from 2002 to 2009. Before that, he directed several shows, including “Due South,” Showtime’s “Beggars and Choosers” and most recently “The Defenders.” He scored a notable feature debut with “Whale Music” [1994] and even directed “K-9:Pi” [2002] starring Jim Belushi.

Christopher Guest is taking it up to 11 for Fox's sequel to "Night at the Museum."
The "Spinal Tap" star has joined the cast as Ivan the Terrible for the comedy adventure, officially titled "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian."
Also joining the cast are Jon Bernthal (Al Capone), Bill Hader (Gen. George Armstrong Custer) and French actor Alain Chabat (Napoleon).
The film, directed by Shawn Levy, reunites lead Ben Stiller with castmates Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais and Owen Wilson.
Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, who penned both "Museum" films, will make a cameo in the sequel, playing the Wright brothers.
"Museum" was a boxoffice success for Fox, grossing $574 million worldwide. With the Smithsonian as the centerpiece, the studio and Levy kicked the current production up a notch by getting the rare chance to film portions of the movie in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
The film is shooting in Vancouver, with a behind-the-scenes team that includes director of photography John Schwartzman ("Pearl Harbor"), editors Don Zimmerman and Dean Zimmerman ("Rush Hour 3"), production designer Claude Pare ("The Aviator") and costume designer Marlene Stewart ("Tropic Thunder").
