2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" might not be the franchise's finest moment, but it still has some cool Indiana Jones moments — the whole nuking the fridge thing aside. With the fourth film in the series, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg decided to leave the adventure serial style of the previous films behind in favor of a 1950s sci-fi B-movie sensibility. Whereas the Nazis had been the go-to villains for the previous three entries, Lucas and Spielberg's new approach saw Indy facing off against the Soviets at the height of the Cold War, in a race to recover the titular cranium in order to thwart the Russians' nefarious plans.
But before any of those grand escapades kick off, "Crystal Skull" makes sure to get a good old-fashioned chase scene in. After Harrison Ford's Dr. Jones meets his long-lost son Mutt Williams (Shia Labeouf) for the first time,...

Jason Bourne was one of the highlights of the summer this year, and the film is hitting soon on Digital and Blu-Ray/DVD, including 4K Ultra HD, and it’s one of the definite buys of the next few months.
The release has plenty of bonuses, including several Bts featurettes, and while it doesn’t have a commentary track, it looks to have quite a lot of interview coverage that possibly manages a lot of what we might get from one anyway.
Take a look at all the details below, and mark your calendar.

As Spectre opens in UK cinemas, Daniel Craig talks about playing Bond for the fourth time, injuries, stunts and more...
Spectre marks Daniel Craig's fourth outing as James Bond, and it's safe to say the job doesn't get any easier, as widely-shared interviews have recently proved. But when we meet Craig a few days before the 24th Bond film hits UK cinemas, he seems relaxed and cheerful.
As he joins a roundtable of journalists in a London hotel, he fields a volley of questions ranging from Spectre's writing, his role as co-producer, and the injury he sustained during a fight scene with the colossal Dave Bautista.
As for whether he'll return as Bond for a fifth time, he remains coy. Here's what Daniel Craig had to say...
Well done - brilliant film.
Thank you very much.
How are you feeling this morning now the reviews are in?...

The hallmark of any James Bond film has been the opening gun barrel sequence. It sets the tone for what's to come, and always sends a shiver up the spine in anticipation of what is about to unfold. However, since Die Another Day this tradition has been revoked and (much to the annoyance of millions of fans around the world) relegated to the end of the films. Not with Spectre. It is now back in its rightful place. Yes, folks, James Bond is back - and how. The customary pre-title sequence is a stunner, and quite violent. There's no messing around. A lot of people die in this film.
Once again, Sam Mendes has brought us a film full of excitement, tension and sexuality that retains a freshness and vitality in a similar vein to what he did with Skyfall. Although there are many spectacular...

Car enthusiasts, look away! Gary Powell, the chief stunt coordinator for the upcoming James Bond film, Spectre, revealed during an interview with The Daily Mail that they destroyed $37 million worth of Aston Martins while filming in Rome for a very, very short scene. “We set the record for smashing up cars on Spectre,” Powell told the site. “In Rome, we wrecked millions of pounds worth. The latest James Bond movie Spectre spent a whopping £24 million blowing up high-priced cars.
We all know that 007 loves his Aston Martins – but clearly not to keep them from exploding in bursts of flames on a regular basis.
Daniel Craig goes on a wild ride and encounters a classic Bond villain in new Spectre-themed advert
The Mail on Sunday claims a jaw-dropping seven ultra-sleek Aston Martin DB10s were among the vehicles destroyed during stunts for Spectre.
Millions were spent on one scene alone, as Bond's Aston Martin is pursued by a Jaguar C-X75 through the scenic streets of Rome near the Vatican.
"We set the record for smashing up cars on Spectre," stunt co-coordinator Gary Powell boasted. "In Rome, we wrecked millions of pounds worth. They were going into the Vatican at top speeds of 110 mph. We shot one entire night for four seconds of film."

"Spectre," the upcoming twenty-fourth James Bond film, reportedly has a budget bordering on a whopping $303 million U.S. dollars according to British tabloid The Daily Mail.
That would not only make it the most expensive Bond film ever made, but one of the most expensive films ever made. Even more interesting though is what some of that money was spent on with approximately $36 million alone written off on the vehicles used throughout the film.
Ten specifically created Aston Martin DB10 sports cars were built for the production with seven of them destroyed during filming.
In fact several million dollars worth of high-performance vehicles were written off during one sequence alone in which Bond's Aston Martin is pursued at high speed by Dave Bautista's Hinx villain in a Jaguar C-X75 through the streets of Rome.

It's not exactly news that blockbuster film productions cost a lot of money. Closing off big areas of major cities, staging giant action scenes, and hiring major stars all come at a pretty penny. These were surely expenditures made during the production of the new James Bond movie, Spectre, but it seems that the movie's budget also had a very special allocation that allowed it to blow up £24 million-worth of Aston Martin DB10 sports cars. The Daily Mail has the details about a big time chase scene set in Italy in Spectre, and it was during the making of his sequence that the film managed to destroy many, many expensive cars. According to the British newspaper, the car race goes through the Vatican, the Colosseum and along the River Tiber, and during shooting the production ruined a grand total of seven Aston Martins. Speaking to stunt co-ordinator Gary Powell on...

The Libertines released their third album, Anthems for Doomed Youth, on Friday, news that has been greeted with breathless coverage in the U.K. press, and a resounding "Who?" on this side of the Atlantic. The band's relative lack of a following in the U.S. has always been the biggest joke about them among American fans — as this very site asked in 2010, "Does Anyone in America Care About a Libertines Reunion?" Even among the brief lifespans that defined '00s indie rock, the Libertines' discography is notably sparse; the new album increases their number of original LPs by 50 percent. (More fun stats: When the band's greatest-hits album was released in 2007, it contained almost one third of their official recorded output.) The question "Who were the Libertines?" has two equally correct answers. The first, more objectively true answer is four names: Pete Doherty, Carl Barât, John Hassall, and Gary Powell.

I have immersed myself in James Bond lately, taking the time recently to begin diving into Ian Fleming's original novels for the first time (I'll be finishing "Casino Royale" later today) and also purchasing the "Bond 50" Blu-ray set. The goal is what will be nearly six months of features surrounding the Bond franchise leading up to the Nov. 6 global release of Spectre, the 24th Bond film in the franchise. To say I'm excited about it would be an understatement and I'm growing increasingly excited reading Fleming's origin of the character, particularly because I'm learning just how well Martin Campbell handled Casino Royale, though I'm equally anxious to return to that movie as well, but I digress... Today we have a few new pictures and a new video blog for the upcoming Spectre, this one coming from the set of the new film focusing on a car chase through the...

One thing we've learned from the movies is you can tell a lot about your hero or villain from their choice of cars and how they drive. Thus, you can bet there's a lot more riding on the nighttime Rome car chase between James Bond's silver Aston Martin DB10 and Mr. Hinx's orange Jaguar C-X75 than the need for speed. But for now we can only speculate that there's something more under the hood in terms of Bondian wit and wiles because all we get is a brief introduction to the two new super sports cars in the latest "Spectre" vlog featuring Sam Mendes, Dave Bautista (Hinx), Special Effects Supervisor Chris Corbould, Stunt Coordinator Gary Powell and Action Vehicles Technical Coordinator Neil Layton. "I love the idea of this fantastic car being in a one-on-one battle with another incredible car from Jaguar, which is similarly extraordinary actually," said Mendes. "So...

So much of movie magic these days is green screen and CGI — the work of animators and special effects artists. Given the fakery we’ve come to expect, when a movie comes along that pulls off some spectacular visuals on-set without a lot of post-production tweaking, that kind of movie magic makes us take notice. The latest wowing practical stunt: “Furious 7.” The “Fast and Furious” franchise has always made its mark with impressive action sequences done practically. If the seventh installment was trying to top the previous six in that department, it succeeded. This time featuring Dominic Toretto and his team drive skydiving cars out of a plane. To shoot the critical scene, the “Furious 7” stunt team actually dropped real live cars out of an airplane. Aerial cameramen followed the jump, doving with their own parachutes. The cars dropped first from an altitude of 12,000 feet in Colorado mountains,...

Sony Pictures, MGM Studios, and Eon Productions have announced highly anticipated details about the 24th James Bond movie. They made the announcement from the Bond sound stage at Pinewood Studios. The movie will be called Spectre, a teaser poster was released, and you will find more information regarding the Sam Mendes directed film below thanks to the official James Bond Twitter account that live-tweeted the big event announcement.
For those of you not familiar with the name Spectre, it's the fictional terrorist organization that was introduced in the Bond novel Thunderball, and it was also present in the beginning of the movie Dr. No. The name stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, which is led by the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
Returning to direct Spectre is Sam Mendes, whose Skyfall was the highest-grossing entry in the history of the Bond franchise — not to mention one of the best reviewed.

Last year, the release of Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, pushed the boundaries of what audiences expected from Daniel Craig’s 007 outings, progressing from the super serious, and a little bloated, Quantum of Solace, to bring a more classic feel Bond, yet one that did not feel out of place in the slightest with Craig’s Bond. A large amount of the praise garnered by Skyfall has been aimed, rightfully, at Sam Mendes, the visionary director behind such classic films as American Beauty and Road to Perdition, who brought his own brand of storytelling to the Bond franchise as well as orchestrating a number of massive stunts that have even seen Skyfall win the award for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Theatrical Trailer: the official theatrical piece, usually cut from the first (very long) cut of the picture or sometimes (if there is no first cut yet) from dailies (all the shot footage, including all the different takes and angles), maximum length of a trailer is two and a half minutes.

It's easy to forget while watching the explosive action sequences of a James Bond movie that it is actually the product of months of day-in, day-out work on the part of hundreds of people, who do it for a living. One of those lucky few is stunt coordinator Gary Powell.
Powell is sort of a legacy when it comes to stunt work for the Bond series. He doubled for Pierce Brosnan, while his brother, Greg, doubled for Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton. Long before that, his father and uncle doubled for Sean Connery.
"Skyfall" marks Powell's third film as stunt coordinator for the series, so MTV turned to him to break down the challenges of five of the latest Bond movie's most thrilling sequences. Check out the full story on MTV to get his top secret intelligence.

To mark the 50th Anniversary of one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and with James Bond’s 23rd official outing in Skyfall due for release in a matter of days, I have been tasked with taking a retrospective look at the films that turned author Ian Fleming’s creation into one of the most recognised and iconic characters in film history.
Even before the monumental success of Casino Royale, producer Michael G. Wilson had been developing ideas to make the next film a direct sequel expanding on the themes of the previous film and exposing a wider criminal organisation linked to events that took place in Daniel Craig’s debut Bond film. Taking its title from a Fleming short story contained in the book For Your Eyes Only, returning screenwriters Neil Purvis, Robert Wade and Paul Haggis took Wilson’s suggestions as...

Boy, does this look like no fun at all. Daniel Craig gets wet - very wet - in a new behind-the-scenes video blog from the set of the latest James Bond installment "Skyfall," which takes viewers behind the scenes of a particularly complex underwater action sequence that sees the actor submerged in a 1.2 million-liter tank for what appears to be hours on end. "[Daniel] was in the water a lot yesterday. Not only has he gotta concentrate on the fight, he's gotta concentrate on the acting as well," says Stunt Coordinator Gary Powell in the video. MI6 Confidential, the full-colour magazine celebrating the world of James Bond 007, returns with its seventeenth issue.
The Bond world is buzzing. With just a few weeks to go before Skyfall hits cinemas, we’ve seen the launch of film’s promotional campaign, the opening of the most exhaustive exhibition of 007 design, and Activision continually tease fans with a new look at their upcoming videogame, ‘007 Legends’.
We cover all of the above in this issue, but the highlight must be the time we spent with stunt coordinator, Gary Powell, who spoke exclusively to MI6 Confidential about the Skyfall pre-titles sequence. Finally, we have just enough time to celebrate the French Bond girls of the franchise, as Bérénice Marlohe joins their ranks this year.

The Libertines drummer Gary Powell has blasted Morrissey for his comments on Olympics fever in the UK. The 'That's How People Grow Up' singer urged "media-brand Britain" to "wake up", comparing the spirit to that of Nazi Germany in a scathing attack which also laid into "dazzling royals", "Lord and Lady Beckham" and "Sir Jamie Horrible". Speaking to student magazine BounceSIN.com at the O2 Academy in Leeds, Powell disagreed with Babyshambles drummer Adam Ficek, who believes the former Smiths singer "can" get away with such comments. "No he can't," Powell retorted. "Morrissey created a character and everybody jumped on board, and then he kind of went into his little cave. I'm not a big Morrissey fan." The 42-year-old went on to brand Morrissey (more)...

Last Thursday Cinema Retro was invited by Beaulieu Motor Museum to an exclusive peak at two Honda motorcycles that will feature in an epic action sequence in the latest James Bond movie Skyfall.
Honda announced its partnership with Skyfall by showcasing two CRF250Rs, which have been dressed exclusively for the film. The first is a Turkish police bike ridden by henchman Patrice (Ola Rapace) and the second is a Turkish merchant bike ridden by James Bond. The vehicles were used for the thrilling pre-title sequence, which was shot in Istanbul and Adana earlier this year.
Both bikes feature extensive modifications, courtesy of Chris Corbould’s award-winning special effects team. Stunt co-ordinator for Skyfall, Gary Powell, commented, “We needed a highly verstatile and quality off-road motorbike that could easily be modified without compromising performance or safety.

With Skyfall marking the longest gap between films without changing the lead actor in the James Bond franchise’s long 50 year history, it may just prove to have been the break the series needed to return with the best instalment so far. Here’s why:
1. The A-List Talent
For the first time in the series’ history, the film is directed by an Academy Award winning director. Sam Mendes, whose debut feature American Beauty earned him the Best Director award in 2000, is at the helm of the 23rd Bond film and he has assembled an impressive cast and crew of technical experts and fellow award winners with 35 Academy Award nominations and 5 wins between them. Earlier this morning Eon Productions, MGM and Sony Pictures officially announced that the title of the 23rd James Bond film to be directed by Sam Mendes will indeed be called Skyfall. During the press conference several other details were revealed. Producer Michael G Wilson also confirmed the film's budget saying, "We’re in the same budget range as the last film. We haven’t had to change anything in the script. In fact, we keep adding things – everything is going to be just as it was.” This Means they are also looking at a budget of around $230 million bucks.
The story for Skyfall focuses Bond's loyalty to M, which is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
We've also heard rumors in the past that Mendes would be making a Bond film with less action.

They announced earlier this year that they would reform for two festival gigs in England this month but ruled out a long-term reunion. But intense rehearsals for their comeback shows have brought the previously warring band close together again - and a permanent return to performing and recording is now "definitely possible".
Drummer Gary Powell tells British rock magazine NME, "I think that decision will actually come (after the reunion shows). (We) would all love to continue doing this." Bassist John Hassall adds, "I think it's very important how these gigs go. Not for everyone else but for ourselves. The focus is on these gigs, and then we'll see what happens.
