- On September 27, 1959, Precht and Ed Sullivan were awarded the Peabody Award for work on the Ed Sullivan Show's Invitation to Moscow, neatly timed to coincide with Khrushchev's visit to America, and before that with the Spoleto Festival of July 19, 1959.
- Precht was married to Ed Sullivan's only child, Elizabeth Sullivan. They had five children together Robert, Carla, Vincent, Andrew and Margo.
- When Marlo Lewis' contract expired in 1960, he announced he would be leaving the show as producer. In his book, Prime Time by Marlo Lewis, Lewis stated. that "I was tired after twelve years of a marathon run and wanted to work at my own pace, away from network pressures." The show's Associate Producer and Peabody Award-winning director, Bob Precht, took the helm as Producer when Lewis retired.
