- Briefly joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War but was honourably discharged when his father died.
- Has played Kirstie Alley's father twice, first in a guest appearance on Cheers (1982), and later on the series Veronica's Closet (1997).

- His stage work included portraying Juror #3 in the Washington D.C. production of "Twelve Angry Men". His cast-mates included Roy Scheider as Juror #8, and Rene Auberjonois as Juror #5.
- Member of Washington D.C.'s Arena Stage repertory company in 60's and 70s, where he worked with Jane Alexander James Earl Jones Robert Foxworth and others.
