Bulgaria has re-entered the International Film race for the 2023 Academy Awards with In the Heart of the Machine, directed by Martin Makariev.
The Bulgarian selection committee, chaired by Oscar-nominated Borat star Maria Bakalova, named In the Heart of the Machine (В Сърцето На Машината) as the country’s new entry after their original pick, Mother, was deemed ineligible by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences earlier this week due to more than 50 of the spoken dialogue track being in the English language. The country had until October 3 to submit a new film.
The Academy’s decision created confusion among the producers of Mother who believed their film was compliant with the rule amid calls for more transparency over how exactly the determination is made.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 28 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 28; last year only 21 TV movies were submitted.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until July 13 to cast their 2020 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017 that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

The critic-boxing director Uwe Boll is back with another “In the Name of the King” movie.
This time around, the film stars Dominic Purcell (“Prison Break”) as a modern day hit man in Bulgaria who travels back in time to save a kingdom from an evil warlord.
It also stars Ralitsa Paskaleva and Bashar Rahal.
Boll talks exclusively with Latino-Review on why he returned to this franchise that was once based off the Dungeon Siege video game series. And he also explained his passion for making political movies now, and how he kept attracting certain stars towards his projects.
“In the Name of the King 3: The Last Mission” is available On Demand, Blu-Ray and DVD today.
Read the transcript of the interview below.
Latino-Review: Could you tell me what attracted you to this script? Especially since this is one of the few movies you didn’t write.
Uwe Boll: Yeah.

And the award for most dramatic headline of the day goes to... No matter how hard you try, no matter how many head shots you fire off, the living dead? They just keep on coming. Such is the case with the new film from the director of After Dark's Re-Kill entitled Code Red.
According to Variety eOne has inked a multi-territory deal, including U.S. rights, for Valeri Milev's Code Red, which was being shopped by Outsider Pictures at the American Film Market earlier this month.
The flick's story follows a female doctor struggling to find her daughter after a long lost World War II biological weapon explodes on a U.S. military base in Bulgaria, turning people into mutant zombies.
Milev, who recently directed Re-Kill for After Dark Films, will helm the film, which he says will present "a brand new type of zombie" for the screen.

Conan shows off his advanced swordplay abilities, the blood flows, and heads drop to the ground. I love the way he twirls his blade around his victims before he kills them.

Not bad. The look of the film is certainly good. If I am not mistaken, I saw homage to Conan the Barbarian (1982) during a few of the snow battle clips. The battles look good, great cinematography, but can the intensity of the Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s 1982 film really be recreated?...

Kelly Hu, Ving Rhames, and Scott Adkins play assassins that, along with 27 others, descend upon an unsuspecting town to engage in a battle royale where the last one standing leaves with $10 million in prize money. For some reason, the filmmakers thought it would be a good idea to introduce a priest played by Robert Carlyle into the mix, who gets mistaken for one of the assassins when he accidentally sips coffee with someone’s tracking device inside. Check out the trailer for the action-a-second “The Tournament” from director Scott Mann below. Every seven years in an unsuspecting town, The Tournament takes place. A battle royale between 30 of the world’s deadliest assassins. The last man standing receiving the $10,000,000 cash prize and the title of Worlds No 1, which itself carries the legendary million dollar a bullet price tag. Starring Kelly Hu, Ian Somerhalder, Robert Carlyle, Ving Rhames, Scott Adkins, Liam Cunningham , John Lynch,...
