Former "Real World" and "The Challenge" stars reunited in Washington D.C. on Tuesday to support the The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and honor the late Diem Brown. Brown, who found fame on "The Real World/Road Rules Challenge," died last year after a long battle with ovarian and colon cancer. "Real World: Boston" alum-turned-Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy led the day’s event -- a caucus intended to raise awareness about the disease. He was joined by his wife and "Real World: San Francisco" star Rachel Campos-Duffy, along with her costar, David “Puck” Rainey, "Real World" original Norman Korpi, “Road Rules: X-Treme's" Derrick Kosinski and "Challenge: Free Agents" alum Laurel Stucky. Rachel posted a special photo of the group on Twitter, writing, "Bringing the @mtv real world crew for a great cause. @normankorpi @laurelstucky @mtvpuck #30daysofteal #COCCnow." The day's events were filmed for an upcoming MTV documentary.

"Marriage Boot Camp" is far from Tami's first (or last) foray into reality TV. She got her start over 20 years ago on "The Real World: Los Angeles," before going on to star on "Basketball Wives" in Miami, the current seasons of "Marriage Boot Camp" and "Wife Swap" and the upcoming season of "Basketball Wives L.A." "I honestly did not watch past Season 3, which was Puck and Pedro," Tami tells us when asked if she's seen what "The Real World" has devolved into. "I started my train into the acting world, I was a wife at the time, married to Kenny Anderson. So I wasn’t really concerned. Social media’s real big now, we didn’t have that then, but people are tweeting me ‘It’s not the same, I loved when you guys were on.’ So I don’t even feel the need to even tune in." She's...

Reality Blurred's Andy Dehnart looks at changes in MTV's Real World over its 30 seasons, discovering that the twists, gimmicks, and changes started early in the show's life, leading up to season 30's The Real World Skeletons. Monday, MTV announced that it will mark the milestone 30th season of the first modern reality show by calling it "The Real World Skeletons." While those of us who grew up with "The Real World" are ancient compared to MTV's 12- to 24-year-old viewers, that is not a reference to its former fans. Instead, the subtitle refers to the cast members' pasts, which will literally haunt them by moving into the house. With "skeletons" involving bullying, pregnancy, and cast member being surprised by a dad he's never met, it seems like an insane, desperate, and ethically dubious twist. But as crazy as "The Real World: Skeletons" is, it's just another twist in a long...

Utopia Review
Fox is putting a lot of faith into their new reality show, Utopia, not least simply because the “contestants” are signed up for living there for a year. It probably isn’t a bad bet, because ratings over the last few years (and decades) have shown nothing more than the fact that people will tune in for any sort of crazy that a network will air. Reality shows are practically can’t lose efforts, because if things go far enough to one side, then people tune in to hate watch, and your network is still making money.
That’s good, because Utopia, which also offers live feed online viewing between episodes, is not so much a social experiment as it is a test of security protocols and the near perfection of the theory that there is nothing so dumb that you won’t find people to sign up for it,...

Close your eyes and imagine a simpler time. 20 years ago, when there were only 60 channels on cable TV and no such thing as an iPhone, or an iPad, or an iAnything. It's the Summer of 1994, emojis are an unknown entity, and Butterfinger BBs are plentiful. Sheryl Crow is spinning on your walkman, and life is good. Progress is important. Over the past 20 years, countless inventions and ideas have come to fruition and gone on to change our daily lives for the better. But there's also nothing wrong with indulging in a little nostalgia. Especially if the memory lane you're casually...

Each day, a different writer will be charged with determining the winner of a round of the bracket, until Vulture's Margaret Lyons judges the finals on March 25. Today, after each clawing their way through two rounds, The Real World: San Francisco takes on the second season of Project Runway: Puck vs. Santino! To judge this match, we asked the hosts of Earwolf's "reality Show show" podcast, Sean Clements and Hayes Davenport, to debate it on their podcast. You can listen to their debate (complete with sound clips), or read an abridged transcript below. Sean: Vulture wants us to officiate a real slobber-knocker here. Vulture is holding the ultimate Reality Rumble to determine the greatest season of the greatest reality-tv shows, from The Real World on. Each day, a different writer will be charged with determining the winner of a round of the bracket, until Vulture's Margaret Lyons judges the finals on March 25. To kick off the bracket, Sarah Bunting pits The Real World's iconic third, San Francisco season, with Puck and Pedro, against the second season of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's indie-filmmaking docu-series, Project Greenlight, which followed the making of The Battle of Shaker Heights, starring a young Shia Labeouf. At first, comparing The Real World to Project Greenlight seemed like an easy, lopsided call. Real World, now in season 29, is still on after 22 years, propelled by its simple premise: Throw a bunch of post-adolescent strangers together, give them booze and cameras to play to, and wait for the fights and sex.

I blame Paris Hilton for The Goldbergs.
This could be a long review.
A family sit-com that looks back at life in the ’80s, The Goldbergs takes inside a household before cell phones and the internet, and back to a time when dysfunction was something you held up like a coat of arms. Our family drama is mostly spurred on by our teen children – Barry (Troy Gentile) and Erica (Hayley Orrantia) – and Grandpa (George Segal).

We're not really sure who is still watching the drunken debauchery that is MTV's "The Real World," but we do get nostalgic for seasons past. Take the San Francisco season from 1994, for example, which featured the late Pedro Zamora and the notorious bike messenger, Puck.
Located on the city's famous Lombard Street, the house was the setting of serious discussions like AIDS and homosexuality. We dug up a video clip of the most notable moment when the house members voted to kick Puck out, and we couldn't help but notice the '90s interiors of the billiards room with the giant fish tank. If you want to feel old, get a load of the slipcovered sofa, shoji-style screens and that landline phone.
From the exterior, this looks like any other home on the street and the location is particularly underwhelming compared to other seasons. Later on, "Real World" homes became more and more extreme,...

"The city has always been a great place for young people to explore who they are and what they want to do with their lives."The original San Fran outing was so memorable thanks to Pedro, an AIDS activist who brought gay issues to the mainstream and even had a commitment ceremony during the show. The Real World will be returning to San Francisco for the show's upcoming 29th season — which might wind up being the series' last. According to Variety, the show's lagging ratings and diminished buzz might lead to "format tweaks" in the coming season. (As long as things continue to stop being polite and start being real, everything will be just fine.) The original San Francisco season from 1994 is widely considered a high point for the series, given that it both educated America about AIDS and featured proto-reality-goblin Puck.

Chad Michael Murray doesn’t quite have a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in Fruitvale Station, but his supporting role is a somewhat surprising turn for the actor who probably has a lifetime parking space at CW network HQ. Still, teen stars who make it big on soaps or period high school flicks aren’t beholden to playing those types of characters forever, despite what the career trajectories of certain performers might suggest.
For every Amanda Bynes or Mischa Barton, there’s a Michelle Williams or Anna Kendrick– actors and actresses who are skillfully ridding themselves of teen angst or the knowledge of cafeteria hierchary for meatier, more adult roles. Check out our list of impressive performances you may have missed, or actors whose early gigs you somehow managed to forget. We can all agree to disagree on which season of "The Real World" deserves the title of best season. But when it comes to standout style moments, that honor would belong to the awesome early '90s editions: New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The low production level of the show combined with the earnest, un-Reality TV approach of the cast members made for pretty excellent programming. But just as mesmerizing were those '90s-tastic outfits on display: Season 1's Julie paired her denim on denim with comfy Nikes; Irish punk-hipster Dominic with his Flock of Seagulls hair; and San Fran's Puck's scruffed-up bike messenger look. Basically every trend from that decade has resurfaced in some way or another, and it was all captured on "The Real World," a time capsule of sorts.
Our favorite Rw style icon, however, has to be Tami from L.A. The silver...

Making all local Gen X dreams come true, MTV recently announced it would rebroadcast three of its original Real World seasons--including 1994's "The Real World: San Francisco."
Branded "RetroMTV: The Real World," the three-day marathon is a kickoff to the upcoming "Real World: Portland."
"MTV is marathoning old school Real World this weekend," tweeted one fan. "So my weekend is planned."
"Am I the only one excited about old school Real World shows being replayed on MTV?" tweeted another.
No. No, you are not.
The show is widely credited with creating reality television, and, as SFist wisely noted last year, "San Francisco played host to the series' arguably greatest season."
Puck and Pedro's epic blowup? Pedro's heartbreaking public battle with AIDS? It reminds us what reality TV was before rose ceremonies and elimination challenges.
The marathon starts Friday, kicking off with the New York pilot season, followed by Las Vegas.

MTV is doing a blessed thing. With "RetroMTV," the network will be replaying three of the finest seasons of The Real World starting this Friday and continuing throughout Sunday, including the first New York season, the San Francisco season with Pedro Zamora, and the first Las Vegas season with Trishelle Cannatella. I hope that sentence filled you with the adrenaline of a thousand jars of stolen peanut butter, because I'm tweaking over here.
It's all in anticipation for The Real World: Portland, which begins March 27.
This happy occasion proves the opportunity for another: Let's create a Real World supergroup, an ideal cast composed of seven of the best housemates in the show's history. The sort of fame that comes from appearing on reality television can be fleeting. Remember Puck, the filthy bike messenger who put his finger in Pedro’s peanut butter on MTV’s The Real World? No? Let’s go with something more recent. How about Richard Hatch, the manipulative nudist from CBS’ Survivor? Still no? Omarosa, that bitch from The Apprentice? William Hung, that Ricky Martin wannabe from American Idol? At one point these people were the darlings of popular culture, and now their names conjure up barely a glimmer of recognition. Hopefully for Fox Searchlight the name Susan Boyle is recent enough that it’s still at the tips of everyone’s brains though, because Deadline Hollywood is reporting that they’ve just signed off on a deal that gives them the rights to her life story. It turns out that, in the time since her revelatory 2009 performance on Britain’s Got Talent, where...

"The Real World's" 27th (!) season premiered Wednesday (June 27) with a house full of surprises.
First: These seven strangers weren't picked to live in a "house" -- "resort" is a better way to describe their oceanside villa on the island of St. Thomas.
Also, "The Real World" has seen its share of difficult roommates (going back to San Francisco's Puck), but we're truly worried about two of this season's castmembers: Robb and Brandon.
Robb, a gargantuan redhead, seems affable enough when we first meet him, but MTV's season preview shows him with a bloody face after punching himself -- hard.
But it's recovering addict Brandon who seems the most troubled in tonight's premiere, and his roommates are anxious about his safety -- and their own.
The gauge-eared "Southie" is an obvious outcast among the six fresh-faced, athletic All-Americans he shares space with: Robb and the house's other feisty redhead, Laura,...

Everything that is wrong with reality television in general and The Glass House in particular can be summed up in one word: Alex.
From the moment he appeared on our screens, it was apparent that Alex — a 25-year-old from Dallas whose ABC bio indicates that he’s a bail bondsman with a penchant for “free-style rapping” — was after one thing and one thing only: fame. Now, it can certainly be said that anyone agreeing to go on a reality show is looking for their 15 minutes, but Alex and his ilk are people who grew up in what I like to call the A.P. era.
I believe that whether folks like Alex realize it or not, they owe their particular style of attention-getting to The Real World’s Puck.

Former The Real World star David Edward 'Puck' Rainey has pleaded no contest to a charge of domestic violence stemming from his arrest in June.
The MTV reality TV star was detained by cops in Mission Hills, California and faced a number of charges including child endangerment and corporal injury on a spouse. The case went to court on Tuesday and those charges were dismissed, with Rainey instead pleading no contest to domestic battery and contributing to delinquency of a minor, according to TMZ.com.
The website reports Rainey was sentenced to four years probation, 30 days community service and ordered to attend a 52-week domestic violence counselling program and 52 parenting classes.

This season, MTV is turning its cameras towards San Diego yet again, and one of the cast members, Samantha "Sam" McGinn, is an out lesbian, and she chats with us about coming out, her experiences as a lesbian on the butch side of the spectrum, and hooking up with girls on the show.

It’s time for midterms, Food Network-style.
That was the message the eight remaining contestants in Food Network Star heard this week. With the season at the halfway point, clear patterns have started to emerge. As in Penny “Middle Eastern Mama” Davidi can cook a mean dish but doesn’t have much patience for her fellow contestants. Or New Jersey’s own Chris Nirschel may have a certain frat-boy appeal, but it’s an immature...

For David Rainey, his world just got a lot more real. And not in a good way. Better known as Puck by fans of the 1994 San Francisco season of MTV's The Real World, Rainey has been arrested and charged with domestic violence. The 42-year-old former reality star was subsequently booked on suspicion of felony corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, according to the Los Angeles Times. Man, Puck from The Real World is really hurting his chances of ever winning Now's Man of the Year award. The polarizing cast member (born David Edward Rainey) from the third season of MTV's endless reality show was arrested by L.A. police on June 19, it was reported today, and charged on suspicion of felony corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. Puck just might want to look into some anger-management classes, as this is at least his third domestic violence case. The former amped-up bike messenger was involved in a similar case in 2003, though prosecutors declined to file charges. And in 2009, Rainey was sentenced to a year in L.A. County Jail after pleading no contest to battery charges against his girlfriend. As if the domestic-violence charges weren't enough, Rainey also received three years probation in 2009 for felony possession of ammunition in Los Angeles County, [...]...

It was another short week thanks to the holiday, but it was still a busy one here at MTV News thanks to the premiere of "American Idol," the continued dominance of Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" and the Golden Globes. Also, Friday afternoon has been taken up mostly by a single question: If "The Real World" had a seven person all-legends team, who would be in there? And would it be cool to have both Pedro and Puck in there? (These are the philosophical questions that keep us sharp on slower news days.)
So before you head out to your local cinema to see "No Strings Attached," prepare for the last weekend of NFL playoffs before the Super Bowl and try desperately not to freeze in the open air, be sure to check out everything you might have missed on the MTV Newsroom Blog this week.

Puck Rainey, the infamous antagonist from "The Real World: San Francisco" and 2003's "Real World/Road Rules Battle of the Sexes," has been seriously injured in a San Diego car accident.
Sources close to the family tell TMZ that Rainey (whose real first name is David) and his 7-year-old son, Bogart Che Peyote, were on a father-son fishing trip on Friday (March 19) when Rainey swerved to avoid a deer on Route 79.
Rainey was trapped when his car rolled down an embankment and landed in a creek, upside-down. He helped his son out of the car, who then flagged down help.
Puck broke both feet, his right hand, and his neck. He also fractured his sternum and clavicle. Bogart bruised internal organs and severely damaged his liver, but has been released from the hospital, while Puck is expected to remain under hospital observation for at least a week.

In modern reality television’s 16 years on cable and eight years on network, the genre has given television more (and often better) gay portrayals than scripted programming. Whether part of competitions in artificial contexts or fly-on-the-wall footage of real people's lives, reality TV has offered moments so unexpected that viewers might not have believed them if they occurred on a drama or sitcom.
With the fall television season now underway and reality shows bound to create more such moments – Dancing with the Stars has Lance Bass and Survivor has a gay contestant once again, among others – now's a good time to look back at some of the more memorable moments, ranging from progressive portrayals to cringe-inducing scenes.
