Anne Feeney, a key part of the folk music movement and a committed political and labor activist, died Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Pa. from complications of Covid-19. She was 69 and her daughter, Amy Sue Berlin, announced her passing on Facebook.

Her anthem Have You Been to Jail for Justice is sung on picket lines and in jail cells around the world.
Her career included more than 4,000 shows across North America and Europe performing for striking workers, in union halls, and large protests. It was the evening of Friday, March 6, 2020 that I went to my first — and only — Fyc event of the Emmy season. It was for “Westworld,” and it took place at the Saban Media Center at the Television Academy Campus in North Hollywood.
There was a Q&a with the cast, and I was petulantly jealous of Thandie Newton’s outfit. They screened the first episode of Season 3 on the big screen to a capacity audience of several hundred people. I attended with my husband — “Westworld” is his favorite show, or at least it was until this season — and our friend, who I didn’t realize was attending until she dropped her daughter, our babysitter, off at our house. Her mother and I spontaneously carpooled together after we realized that we were, in fact, heading to the same place. All of us had a couple glasses of wine and fancy apps afterwards,...

The 24 Hour Musicals will return better than ever this year.
The 24 Hour Musicals feature four new musicals written and performed in the span of just 24 hours. The marathon process begins at 9 Pm the night before the performance. Writers, composers, directors, choreographers, actors, music directors, musicians and production staff — many of whom have never worked with or met each other before — gather for an orientation where they share costume pieces and props, their special skills and reveal something that they have always wanted to do on stage. At 11 Pm, composers and writers get to work crafting 15-20 minute musicals overnight and at 9 Am the next morning, actors receive their roles and directors, choreographers and musicians arrive to begin rehearsal. Less than 12 hours later, they’ll perform in front of a live audience!
Proceeds from The 24 Hour Musicals benefit The 24 Hour Plays’ programs, including The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals (a professional intensive for...

Good morning!
I'm super excited that Carol has found a director and it's Todd Haynes, who did Far From Heaven and Mildred Pierce. Out lesbian Christine Vachon, who has made many of my favorite films, will co-produce. Now the adaptation of The Price of Salt can finally get rolling!
Buzzfeed compiled The 10 Queerest Disney Movies and Mulan comes in at number one. I always thought she was hot in drag.
Over at Flavorwire, Michelle Tea named her five favorite books about teen girls in trouble. I have some reading to do!
Holly Miranda lends her voice to this new MMoths song, but she's not in the creepy video.
Patty Schemel is #82 on Spin's 100 Greatest Alternative Drummers. I'd have her much higher on my list.
Mount Moriah recorded a set for NPR's World Cafe.
Great news from Cannes!
