Poor Things, Oppenheimer and Saltburn won Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) Awards in the categories for fantasy, period and contemporary live action features, respectively, at the 28th Adg Awards, which were handed out Saturday at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Ovation Hollywood.
Poor Things and Oppenheimer are additionally nominated for the Oscar in production design, alongside Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon, which were also Adg nominated in their respective categories.
Over the past five years, the winner of the Adg’s period film prize has gone on to win the Oscar for production design twice: In 2020, for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and in 2021, for Mank. During that time, the production design Oscar went to the winner of the fantasy category twice, in 2019, for Black Panther, and 2022, for Dune. Production design Oscar nominees “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer,” “Napoleon” all competed for the 28th Art Directors Guild Awards February 10 at Ovation Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. “Poor Things” prevailed over “Barbie” for fantasy, and is now in the driver’s seat to win the Oscar. Throughout the season, it has been a race between these two big feminist films constructed around rebirth and unconventional world-building.
Meanwhile, “Oppenheimer” took period honors over “Asteroid City,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” and “Napoleon.” Contemporary winner “Saltburn,” though, is not in the Oscar running. The animated feature winner was “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
The TV winners for one-hour period, fantasy, and contemporary were “The Great,” “The Last of Us,” and “Succession.” Movie or limited series went to “Beef,” and the half-hour series winner was “Reservation Dogs.”

“Saltburn,” “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” were among the winners at the 28th Annual Art Director’s Guild Awards which took place in Hollywood on Saturday evening.
Hosted by Max Greenfield, the Adg Awards celebrated outstanding production design in theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials, animated features and music videos.
“Poor Things” production designers Shona Heath and James Price drew visual references ranging from the paintings of French futurist Albert Robida to Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dracula” to build Yorgos Lanthimos’ extraordinary sets.
In “Oppenheimer,” Ruth De Jong built Los Alamos from the ground up. But her most challenging task came when she had to build the Oval Office for the film’s third act. Working with supervising art director, Samantha Englander, the two had floated the idea of finding a pre-existing build of the Oval Office. They looked no further than HBO’s beloved political satire “Veep.” Not only was “Veep...

The Boys unleashed an unapologetically ultraviolent response to the entertainment industry’s seemingly interminable array of live-action superhero fare with a TV series created by Supernatural and Timeless‘s Eric Kripke, adapting the bleak comic book series from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The result was a serial offering that’s said to be one of the most-watched shows for the Amazon Prime Video platform.
Amazon was clearly privy to the fact that The Boys was something special even before it premiered, since the online retail monolith’s streaming arm preemptively ordered a second season of the series back in July 2019. If you’re so inclined, do check out our review of The Boys Season 1.

Syfy's The Expanse is a handsomely designed, tense ten-episode sci-fi drama that's perfect for binge-watching...
Billed as arguably the riskiest project ever produced for Syfy, the first season of The Expanse is a ten-episode mystery adventure based on the much-praised series of novels by James S. A. Corey. Taking its cues from the first book in said series, Leviathan Wakes (the title of the final episode), it's a diamond in the rough that can be enjoyed by both sci-fi fans and those who don’t know their Cylons from their Klingons.
Despite a largely unspectacular opening episode, The Expanse quickly established itself as a promising slice of television with enough going on in its concept and characters to warrant further viewing. And as you may expect given that a second season has already been commissioned, season one displays a steady increase in quality right up to its high-octane finale,...

The Art Directors Guild has announced nominees for the group's 19th annual awards, and films that have come on strong as of late like "American Sniper" and "Nightcrawler" were in the mix along notable extravagant displays in the period and fantasy categories. However, there were a few missing pieces. In the fantasy arena, both "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" and "Maleficent" came up short, while "Exodus: Gods and Kings" missed in the period department. The most shocking snub might be "Mr. Turner's" in that field, however. (And it would have been great to see "Snowpiercer" get some love here, but, alas.) As a reminder, the Guild implemented a new rule this season. Period films must now have the majority of sets and locations designed to portray a time period at least 20 years prior to the present awards year. Contemporary films, therefore, must have the majority of...

Los Angeles, Nov 27: Actress Nikki Reed says she was not emotionally close with father Seth Reed when she was young because he divorced her mother Cheryl Houston.
The actress, who is known for her role as Rosalie Cullen in "Twilight" franchise, failed to understand the reason behind her parents' split.
"We weren't close growing up and I guess it was both of our faults. He was waiting for me to come around and I was bitter about him divorcing mom," Zooey magazine quoted Reed as saying.
"As a kid, you don't have the mental capacity to understand why adults make the decisions they make and sometimes you hang on to that,".
