Back then, no one was expecting The Descent to go on and become one of the most widely acclaimed horror films of the decade. Even today, Neil Marshall’s second creature-feature (the first being Dog Soldiers) remains a favorite among audiences and critics everywhere. This iconic film defies those expectations based on its cast and pitch — not a man in sight as six women battle a clan of cave-dwelling monsters — and then delivers a thoughtful study of friendships, grief, and survival.
So when a sequel was announced, fans’ curiosity and anticipation turned into nervousness once it was revealed that Marshall was neither directing nor writing the follow-up. Instead, the first film’s editor, Jon Harris, was promoted to director, and the script was handled by James McCarthy, J Blakeson, and James Watkins. Other details about The Descent Part 2 were scant prior to its 2009 release, but after it was finally seen,...

Film: ‘The Descent: Part 2′; Director: Jon Harris; Cast: Shauna Macdonald, Krysten Cummings, Douglas Hodge, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern, Michael J. Reynolds; Rating: **1/2
Horror films are not just about deadly monsters that spring up in the dark and serve you a good chill. It’s about being helpless in a situation that you find yourself in and struggle hard to survive. And it is this helplessness that makes the genre of horror so popular.
‘The Descent’ in 2005 added something more — the helplessness of the fairer sex as an all girls team gets stranded amidst a bunch of monsters.
The sequel, tries to do that, but ends up being a poor remake of a decent first film.

Horror movie sequels usually die faster than the first victim in the story. It doesn't matter if the original was amazing or terrible, it's just the way it goes the majority of the time. UK flick, The Descent, actually did well as a theatrical release back in 2006. The horror title generated enough buzz over in Europe and in a variety of film festivals. Hence, a U.S. release date was set a year later. Now five years later, the sequel is replicating the original's journey once again.
The Descent 2 picks up exactly where the first one left off. Reprising the lead role of Sarah is Shauna Macdonald. A rarity in direct to DVD flicks, which is where Descent 2 will be found in the domestic market on April 27th. If a chunk of time has passed since seeing the first installment. Pop that in before watching the sequel.

The Descent was a great and original horror movie made back in 2005 directed by Neil Marshall. It never needed a sequel but Jon Harris decided that he’d made one anyway and I’m pleased to report it’s not too bad. It’s not as good as the original movie but probably was never going to be as the originality was what made the first one so good.
The Descent: Part 2 stars Michael J. Reynolds, Shauna Macdonald, Jessika Williams, Douglas Hodge, Joshua Dallas, Anna Skellern and is set back in the same caves as the first movie where we see the search and rescue team hunting to find the 5 girls who went missing in the first movie. You might remember that at the end the lone survivor is seen running up to a car caked in blood.

Paddy Breathnach's (Shrooms) latest horror project has been given a new name, according to the IMDb. The website reports that the once titled Red Mist is now known as Freakdog and stars Arielle Kebbel (Grudge 2), Sarah Carter (Skinwalkers), Stephen Dillane, Andrew Lee Potts (return to House on Haunted Hill), MyAnna Buring (The Descent), Martin Compston (Doomsday), Michael Jibson, Colin Stinton, Michael J. Reynolds and Alex Wyndham, among many others. The film is set to be released by Anchor Bay Entertainment and Starz sometime in 2009. A young doctor in a Us hospital administers a powerful and untested cocktail of drugs to a coma victim. But instead of curing him, it triggers a powerful "out-of-body" experience and enables the patient - a depraved and dangerous loner - to inhabit other people's bodies and, through them, take revenge on the bullying medical students who were accidentally responsible for his condition.
