Walt Disney Pictures released their new musical/fantasy flick "Into The Woods" into theaters this past Thursday. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty entertaining and more comical than I thought it would be. It stars: Tracey Ullman, Frances de la Tour, Johnny Depp, Lucy Punch, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Simon Russell Beale, Tammy Blanchard, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Christine Baranski, Billy Magnussen, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, MacKenzie Mauzy, Richard Glover, Joanna Riding, and Annette Crosbie. The movie revolved a couple of different characters and plotlines that all came together, full circle, towards the end. We saw Cinderella, wishing she could attend the King's festival, but instead, was treated like crap by her evil step sisters. Meanwhile, the baker and his wife wanted to have kids, but found out they were secretly cursed by the witch who had a unpleasant past with the baker's father.

Tom Hiddleston's Coriolanus is blazing but bleak, and there's as little love in a 60s sex scandal as there was in Dickens's London
The first time I saw Tom Hiddleston act was at the Donmar six years ago. He was 26, a doleful Cassio to Chiwetel Ejiofor's Othello, and he made a small part look essential. Now he takes centre stage as a blazing Coriolanus. Blazing but bleak. He is the ideal combination of emotional reserve and physical bravura.
Reserve has always been one of the problems of this difficult play. Where do spectators put their trust? The play's martial hero treats the audience as he does the populace – don't say plebs – he despises. He will not show his wounds to the public in order to get their vote. He will not let spectators into his thoughts with a soliloquy.

Frankly, it should be criminal how talented Meryl Streep is, and certainly, there will never be another one like her. The three-time Oscar winner has a Wikipedia page dedicated to her various nominations and honors, and from drama to comedy to musicals, she's not only done it all, she's knocked it out the park more often than not. So next her on list of things to do? Play a witch in a Disney musical. The first official look from Rob Marshall's "Into The Woods" has landed, and once again Streep has transformed into a witch who wishes to reverse a curse so that her beauty may be restored. The multi award-winning composer made his name on the very French 1964 musical film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. So why would he want a Cornish company to adapt it for the stage?
In the spring of 2008, the French composer Michel Legrand fell violently in love – with a theatre show. The winner of multiple Oscars and Grammys was in London supervising the opening of his new musical, Marguerite, and popped into the Haymarket cinema, where an unconventional production of Brief Encounter was being staged. "For the first time," he says, in French-roughened English, "I see a musical with so many lyrical ideas, with so many inventions, with a new style, with a new way to approach the musicals."
Legrand was so enthralled he hatched a plot to work with Brief Encounter's creators: the Cornish theatre company Kneehigh, and especially their artistic director, Emma Rice. What he wanted Rice to do was...
