Zoe Saldaña revealed in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly that her former management team “discouraged” her from using her real name once she landed her first major acting role in the 2000 teen drama “Center Stage.” The actor stressed that her team was not trying to be malicious at the time. Saldaña starred in the Nicholas Hytner-directed drama as Eva Rodriguez, a smart aleck dancer from Boston. The “Center Stage” ensemble cast also included Amanda Schull, Susan May Pratt, Peter Gallagher, Donna Murphy and Ethan Stiefel.
“When I did [2000 film] ‘Center Stage,’ I remember being discouraged by my management at that time to use my name,” Saldaña said, “but their intention was never for me to stop being who I was. They celebrated who I was. But my manager at the time was a former singer and a ballroom performer, and she did change her name as well, when she...

As Zoe Saldana's character said in Center Stage, "I'm not dancing for them anymore. I'm dancing for me." And that was the attitude the actress embraced for her big screen debut as Eva Rodriguez in the 2000 ballet film—even after getting some questionable career advice. "When I did Center Stage, I remember being discouraged by my management at that time to use my name," Saldana, 43, told Entertainment Weekly in an on-camera interview posted March 11. "But their intention was never for me to stop being who I am. They celebrated who I was." She continued, "My manager at the time was a former singer and a ballroom...

If you’re of the mind that ballet is all about poufy tutus and curtain calls, Starz’s Flesh and Bone would like you to think again.
In the following first trailer for the limited series, a young dancer named Claire (played by Black Swan‘s Sarah Hay) has a very rough introduction to the competitive world of professional ballet.
Insults are yelled, chairs are thrown — though all of the abuse at the studio seems to pale in comparison to what’s going on for Claire at home. (Might the door-banger be the mysterious, unwelcome visitor from her past?)

Before the "Step Up" franchise went 3-D, dance shows dominated television and Zoe Saldana was a household name, "Center Stage" was a little movie with only Peter Gallagher's eyebrows as a recognizable feature. That was more than 10 years ago.
Now, of course, movin' and shakin' is becoming a major element of pop culture and Saldana is one of our favorite Hot People Looking Hot. But she's not the only star of that nouveau-cult classic heating up the big screen this summer.
Amanda Schull – yup, Jody Sawyer herself – is starring in "Mao's Last Dancer," a biopic of Chinese dancer Li Cunxin out on DVD this week.
We checked in with the now 32-year-old to find out what she's been up to for the past decade and if she and the erstwhile Eva Rodriguez (Saldana's "Center Stage" character, for the uninitiated) are still pals.
Do people often recognize you or call you Jody Sawyer?...

Cinemax has given a series order to "Femme Fatales," a late-night program that will showcase noir-style mysteries with strong female leads, according to the Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed.
The show will have a "strong erotic quality," but not fall into the "Skinemax"-type programming that the channel is known for.
"We have an opportunity to tell some sexy and thrilling stories that all have powerful women," says Bob Conte, senior vp creative affairs.
The show's co-creator and co-executive producer Mark A. Altman ("Castle") says the show will feature a mysterious narrator, sort of "a sexy Rod Serling" from "The Twilight Zone," and they hope that the show will attract different big name directors who want to tell stand-alone mysteries.
Here's our short list for the narrators, leads and directors:

When we got got word that Bleacher Report posted a "20 Hottest Sports Movie Babes" list, our first thought was, "Wait, are there really 20 movies about female athletes?" Alas, no.
Bleacher Report's list definitely includes some sports-playing actresses/characters, but at least half of it is comprised of women whose role was to seduce male athletes from the sidelines. So, we decided to make our own "10 Hottest Sports Movie Babes" list. At the very least our list includes women in their uniforms. Bleacher Report only included uniform pictures if the women were in bikinis.
10) Tami Maida (Helen Hunt), Quarterback Princess: "What bothers you? That I'm a lady or that I'm a quarterback?"
9) Anne Marie Chadwick (Kate Bosworth), Blue Crush: "I want a girl to be on the cover of Surf magazine. It would be great if that girl were me, but any girl would do."
8) Sara (Julie Stiles), Save the Last Dance: "That's Ok,...
