Map of Bones
"Black Panther" scribe Joe Robert Cole has come onboard to pen the script for "Map of Bones," the film adaptation of the James Rollins 2005 novel for Lionsgate. John Sacchi, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen are producing.
The story centers on the bones of the three Magi who paid homage to the newborn Jesus Christ. The story starts at a crowded service in Germany when armed intruders in monks' robes unleash a nightmare of destruction, and its up to a covert branch of the U.S. Defense department to discover the truth.

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. How do you put that much action down on...

Mere marketing tool, or thumping good read? Here, David praises the greatness of movie novelisations…
They’re the novels film buffs love to read, and collect omnivorously. The books take up at least a single shelf, and their collectors smile, impressed, at the way a multi-million dollar scene sparkling with special effects can be effectively emulated in prose. Or maybe that’s just me.
But seriously: haven’t you ever watched Lethal Weapon and thought, “This should have been a book!” If you ever have, then track down and pick up Joel Norst’s paperback version and see how he can make maverick cop Martin Riggs jumping off a building while clinging to a hysterical civilian just as breathtaking as when Mel Gibson does it onscreen.
Or how about when James Bond free-falls over a cliff in Goldeneye? Check out veteran Bond novelist John Gardner’s take on it. These scenes,...

The extremely talented author James Rollin is with me today to talk about his latest Sigma Force novel, the 7th in the series, The Devil Colony. Was America originally supposed to have 14 instead of 13 colonies? Who is a largely forgotten Founding Father whom you probably have never heard about in school? Did the Lost Tribes of Israel make it to America and settle here? From the dark secret origins of the United States to cutting edge nanotechnology, the action-packed and suspenseful novel The Devil Colony might be the best Sigma Force book yet!
I, Professor Crazy, intend to get to the bottom of this and find out the answers to these and even more Burning Questions by water boarding–er, I mean interviewing James Rollins. Will there be any broken bones? I can’t promise that, for legal reasons. You’ll just have to read the following interview to find out for yourselves!

The Devil Colony has all you could want in a Sigma Force novel by James Rollins: action, adventure, speculation, and a story ripped right out of the pages of history combined with a breakneck plot that incorporates the latest advances in cutting-edge (nano)technology. It’s the seventh book in the series so far, and it might very well be the best yet. Sigma Force mainstays Painter Crowe, its Director, and Commander Grayson Pierce are back, and in The Devil Colony, they discover that the Guild even played a part in the founding of America. They face perhaps their most dangerous villain yet, and they uncover secrets about the United States’ origins that may change forever the way you look at America.
The novel’s prelude takes us back to the Kentucky Territory in August of 1779. An archeological exploration is going on, unearthing Native artifacts from a long, serpent-shaped mound.

Having just finished reading a novel I couldn’t put down, I began to think of how great a film it would make – something I seem to be doing more and more of lately. I often find myself imagining how I would adapt what I’m reading, which director would I put on it, who would I cast, what would I adapt/what would I cut. Even going so far as to thinking about the poster design!
Obviously Hollywood takes literary work as the basis for many of it’s productions and should a novel prove a runaway hit, you can pretty much assume the movie version will soon follow. However, in my opinion, there’s a number of works that would surely make exciting, engaging and impressive films, but have yet to be adapted.
Read on to discover the 10 novels I think should be on the big screen and pronto!

Shia Labeouf has landed the lead role in the feature film adaptation of Joe Hill's novel Horns, which is being set up over at Mandalay Pictures. The book is being adapted by Keith Bunin (In Treatment) and is described as a love story driven by horror and vengeance.
Labeouf will play Ig Perrish, a 26-year-old who awakens from a black-out hangover to find horns sprouting from his head. As his horns grow bigger, Ig sets out to investigate the unsolved murder of his girlfriend and the case's connection to his cursed fate.
For those of you that don't already know Hill is the son of Stephen King, and he will be an producer on the project.
The next movie you'll see Labeouf in will be Transformers: Dark of the Moon. He's currently filming John Hillcoat's bootlegging drama The Wettest County.

Author James Rollins is set to bring his Sigma Force series of novels to the big screen -- with an assist from famous producer Dino De Laurentiis. Fans of thrillers like The DaVinci Code will want to take notice.
Risky Business broke news of the deal late last night, which has De Laurentiis acquiring the rights to the entire franchise of novels (six in all so far, with a seventh on the way). Rollins started the series back in 2004. The most recent novel, published earlier this year, made the New York Times Bestseller List. The Sigma Force books follow a "division of the U.S. Department of Defense's Darpa (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) program housed beneath the Smithsonian in D.C. Staffed by a collection of "killer scientists" (adventurous scientists paired with military operatives), the Force investigates and secures threatening scientific information through counter-terrorism, research and covert ops."

Producers Martha and Dino De Laurentiis have scored the film rights to James Rollins' six-novel thriller series “The Sigma Force” says Risky Biz Blog.
The story revolves around a division within D.A.R.P.A., the Defense Department's agency that develops new military technology. Housed beneath the Smithsonian museum and made up of pairs of adventurous scientists and military operatives, the group uses all sorts of techniques to secure sensitive scientific information that could pose a threat to the United States.
The adaptation will not be of the first novel "Sandstorm" but rather involve a new story line developed especially for this project. The plan is to turn the property into a franchise should the first film be successful.

Dino de Laurentiis's last string of hits as a producer were several adaptations of Thomas Harris novels, notably Red Dragon and Hannibal, and now he seems to be trying to recapture that same pulpy glory. According to THR, de Laurentiis and his producer wife Martha have picked up the rights to Sigma Force, a series by James Rollins that's the kind of thing you see all the time in airport bookstores. The film won't adapt any of the six existing novels, but will tackle a brand-new story within the world with the aim of starting a franchise. The series, compared frequently to Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code books, is about a secret Department of Defense program located beneath the Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C., where "killer scientists" use covert ops and research to tackle scientific threats. In the most recent bestseller from the series, The Doomsday Key,...

Incidentally, the original Indy paperbacks published in the 1990s by Bantam (and written by Rob MacGregor, Max McCoy and the late Martin Caidin) are all pretty good.
